We are supposed to get a rebate check, with a 15% bonus for the inconvenience, based on our estimated mileage. I doubt whether we will get much because we have yet to take our new Kia for its 1st service. Though we have done 3,400 miles, Kia will contend we haven’t done any.
We had a Hyundai Tuscon for 4 years prior to that, BUT I think this ruling only goes back 3 years.
In a way I am relieved. I have never been able to get more than 28.9 miles/gallon (per the onboard computer) on our KIA, base-model, 4-cylinder Sportage, though the published mileage was much higher. Though I am known for my speeding and penchant for driving over 100 mph (and complaining bitterly that my old Cadillac STL would cut-off at 108 mph), I can also drive very economically. So, I kind of suspected that the numbers for bogus. To me the gearing on the Sportage is WAY TO LOW. I feel like I am grinding along even when I am in 6th. So,, doesn’t surprise me that I don’t get 30+ mpg.
So, what does this say about the folks that sold the KIA to me? I am not sure. They were good to us. That I cannot take away from them. They obviously had to toe the company line.
Am I surprised that the a Korean company [Hyundai owns Kia and the cars are the same, just different trims and badges] would lie to me? No. That is what I would expect. Kind of cultural. It isn’t as if U.S. companies haven’t lied to us. Tobacco companies do come to mind. I think it is amusing.
