The Flauntable Benefits Of Being A Mistress In New Hampshire.

I don’t know much about trucks — not having owned one since 1987. But, this looked pretty fancy, expensive & brand, spanking new. I only noticed the number plate much later.

I had not realized that it was now OK to flaunt the fact.

I do NOT know whose it is, though it was at our beach. There was nobody there. Just I & the dogs. Maybe they were in the bushes, though I heard no noises & the dogs didn’t go sniffing.

I guess it is all relative. She obviously is very proud of it. Good for her.

That she could get that plate surprises & amuses I. Then again, as I chronicled here, I saw “BGFKNFM“, in Maine!

We also have “BJTOY” on a plate here — though you would run a mile if YOU saw who drives it.

Well, I guess each to their own. I wonder what HE thinks.

P.S., I do know of ALL the definitions of a ‘Mistress’ — but I doubt any school teachers still go around describing themselves as ‘mistresses’. SMILE.

PBS Special “The Secrets of Saint John Paul” — My Take.

First and foremost there are two things wrong with the TITLE of this PBS special. The title for the pope is dead WRONG! He is “Saint Pope John Paul II” or “Pope Saint John Paul II“. It is important that ‘Pope’ is in the title along with Saint. Plus, and this is important, he is NOT, and I REPEAT, NOT “John Paul”. He is, was and will always be “John Paul II“. There is another Pope John Paul who will one day be a Saint. They actually got this pope’s name dead wrong too! When talking about his election in 1978, and then Cardinal Karol Jzef Wojtyla paying his homage to the new pope, they referred to the pope as “John Paul”. NO. He was NEVER, EVER “John Paul”. From the moment he accepted the papacy he was “John Paul I”. These are small but important things that PBS should have got right.

Then the title claims “secrets” — in plural. But from what I can see this program is all about his relationship with Polish Anna Teresa Tymieniecka (who by the way had a Hanover, New Hampshire connection). The program tries to insinuate that it was a platonic relationship with no physical element. But there is no proof either way. Plus popes are notorious for their scandalous very intimate relationship with women, married women as well, over the millennia. So in the scheme of things this is not such a big deal.

What would have been more interesting is the oft stated belief that the Pope was a widow or a divorcee! He supposedly having been married, young, ahead of WW II.

So bit of a disappointing and tedious program. Just one SECRET and it is not that intriguing unless there is proof that she was actually his mistress in the accepted connotation of such relationships.

I saw this map on ‘marketwatch.com’ on Friday. Of course I checked to see how Sri Lanka was doing. I was pretty amazed BUT not that surprised.

Sri Lanka has never figured much in U.S. politics or aid. Some of it goes back decades, even to the 1950s, when Ceylon (as it was then), was a leading light in the so called ‘Non-Aligned Nations’. Well, the U.S. never liked that. It was, in those days of the Cold War, “if you are NOT with us, then you must be AGAINST us”. They never appreciated “Non-Aligned”. To be fair Ceylon/Sri Lanka did get a lot of USSR and Chinese aid. The ‘Russians’ sent n to Ceylon in 1961 — which is how I got to shake his hand! I do not think the Americans sent Alan Shepard or John Glenn to Ceylon.

Yes, it cuts both ways. It is very much a ‘you scratch my back, I will scratch yours’ when it comes to the U.S. and foreign aid. I know some of this first hand in that my adoptive father was the Sri Lankan Ambassador to the U.S., in D.C., from 1992 and 1994. U.S. Congressmen would approach him will all sorts of requests on the understanding that in return they will help Sri Lanka get more aid. That is all part of the diplomatic culture. Yes, he had his K-street accounts to entertain whoever warranted entertaining. One Congressman asked him, point blank, whether ‘he’ (meaning Sri Lanka) would pay the rent, for ‘x’ number of years, for the Congressman’s mistress in D.C. My adoptive father could not oblige. This was during the Civil War and Sri Lanka didn’t have that kind of money.

Anywho, here is the map. You can do the maths.
