Pretty Incredible To Have A 73-Year Old U.S. President Calling A Fellow U.S. Senator An ‘Ass’ In Public.

I am never sure whether it is a curse or a blessing. But, these sure are ‘interesting’, ‘different’, ‘unusual’ and ‘concerning’ times.

I am not sure if I have ever called someone an ‘ass‘. I have much more descriptive and caustic arrows in my quiver.

Just seems strange to have a 73-year old man say such things in public — especially when he is the President of the U.S.

What kind of impression does that leave on folks in other countries?

What kind of example is that to our kids?

What would Jesus say?

Bravo & Kudos Hunter.

YOU have, courageously and convincingly, demonstrated that being a good Republican does not mean you cannot also be decent, honorable, honest & righteous.

THANK YOU, Hunter, for showing that it can be done. I hope Mitt Romney is vacationing in his mansion in Wolfeboro and hears about it. It might inspire him.

Hunter Taylor is an exceptional man, cerebral, learned, committed and caring. I have had the honor of meeting him (and his delightful and equally bright & inspiring wife, Ruth Larson) a few times and have always walked away buoyant and with hope for the future.

Simply (but slightly more crudely put) Hunter Taylor has shown that there is noting that says that being a modern Republican means that you have to be a jerk, a bully, a racist and a blowhard.

Another good day for New Hampshire. Yippee. Two in a row. Wow. Yesterday, we had the ‘Period Poverty‘ bill, spearheaded by a schoolgirl, passed into law.

Things are looking up for New Hampshire.

Thank YOU, Hunter.

You are a MAN, you are THE MAN.

I with Ray Burton.

Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, Fireworks — July 4, 2019.

Wolfeboro fireworks July 4 2019 Anura Guruge Canon EOS RP

In the end it was good, ‘not bad’ though 15-minutes in I did say “this is so boring“! By that stage 90% of the fireworks had been single, hand-fired, pop-pop-pop starbursts and when this is your second fireworks show in 24-hours there is only so many starbursts you can stomach — especially if you are looking at them through the viewfinder of a camera.

Yes, Wolfeboro spends MORE on its fireworks than Alton and that is HOW it should be given that Wolfeboro, with property owners like Mitt Romney, the ‘Black and Decker’ family and the Marriotts, is insanely wealthy.

Another great night for fireworks, like the night before. WARM (in the high 70F) and cloudless. It does not get any better. Quite a big crowd, though we got our usual spot, on top of the grass bank, right across from where they set off the fireworks, without any problems — though we only got there 25-minutes before the start. It was a good night overall. Wolfeboro did GOOD. Bravo and thank YOU.

I took about 300 pictures. Then I mercilessly deleted about 100. There are only so many starbursts that you want to keep.

This suffice to say is extremely distressing and aggravating even if you are not a dog person (as we are). Deanna saw this earlier today and was most upset and wanted me to cover it ASAP.

It is hard to fathom how this could have gone on for this long, in affluent Wolfeboro — the ‘Oldest Summer Resort in America’ and home to celebrities like Mitt Romney NOT to mention the world capital of heated driveways to avoid shoveling snow. Yes, to be fair the mansion is on a back road in a very secluded part of town.

I am very fond of Wolfeboro and my association with Wolfeboro goes back 26 years. Wolfeboro is a beautiful town and some of the nicest people I know either live or work there. So, I hate seeing stuff like this associated with Wolfeboro. There was a move to boycott Wolfeboro in 2014 because of its then openly racist police chief. But, that, luckily, is behind us now. But, there is still a dark cloud over Wolfeboro — the ‘unsolved’ murder of local mother Stacey Burns over 8 years ago! This horror as such is another black eye for Wolfeboro.

The police and all the associated agencies appear to have done well in terms of the rescue and the arrest. But, that still begs the question as to how this could have gone on for this long without anybody suspecting anything.

This sorry incident raises a number of issues and the need for some New Hampshire laws to be changed:

  1. Appears that the perpetrator of this evil, Christina Fay, despite her apparent wealth, will NOT be on the hook to pay for ANY of the huge costs that will be associated with taking care of these 84 dogs! That is wrong, wrong, wrong. The law should be changed, at once, to make sure that perpetrators are fully liable for all costs and that the State can go after all of their property.
  2. It appears that she managed to skirt the requirements for a Commercial Breeder License. That too is wrong. How can you have 84 dogs and still claim not to be a Commercial Breeder, That has to be looked into.
  3. Right now she has only been charged with two misdemeanors! 84-dogs and only two misdemeanors. That is NOT right.

I know roughly where his mansion is in Wolfeboro, N.H.

It is by Winter Harbor — near what used to be the quaint, sloping Wolfeboro (Lakes Region) Airport.

He has, for obvious reasons, never invited me to his place for ‘drinks’ (non-alcoholic and non-caffeinated) since I am, in his rich books, a 47%er. No harm. I wouldn’t have him around for drinks either. Given that I circulate in strange circles, I do, however, know folks who have been to his mansion. I gather he likes to give ladies ‘architectural’ tours of the house and show them all the bedrooms he has. Bully for him.

The Marriotts, fellow Mormons with the Mittens, have a palace close-by, with a HUGE, and I mean HUGE, granite, 3 berth boathouse. I have delivered takeout to them when I had WOWNH — Waiters on Water (WOW). Mittens never ordered any takeout.

Well that looks like Lake Winnipesaukee in the Summer for multiple reasons: the gray gabled roof on the boathouse, the lush greenery, the STONES all along the bank and the low hills in the background.

It is a shame he didn’t give Wolfeboro and our lake a plug in this picture.

What Is Happening To & At Huggins Hospital, Wolfeboro, NH?

Mamogram 20130002

Mamogram 20130001

Notice anything strange
about this flyer we got from Huggins Hospital
on Saturday?

It was actually very timely. Deanna had had a physical at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (Concord) on Thursday and had been told to get a mammogram. She was thinking about getting it done at Concord Hospital when this flyer came.

I have never forgiven Huggins Hospital for the grief it caused me through its FALSE PSA reporting.

But, Huggins is our nearest hospital and we use it when we have to.

Something is not right at Huggins — of late.

We were there, in the Emergency Room (ER), a few weeks ago, crack-of-dawn, i.e., 8:30 am, on a Monday. Over the weekend Teischan managed to fall off a stationary skateboard and hurt her foot. Though it was slightly swollen I was sure that there were no broken bones. That is one of the many advantages of having played rugby, in school, in Britain, in the early 1970s. IF you yourself didn’t break anything, you were still likely to see at least one broken bone injury a game. So you get fairly expert at spotting broken bones. I do have an enviable diagnostic record in this respect. But, despite my assurances Deanna was not convinced. So we took Teischan to Huggins ER on Monday.

The ER was deserted. No patients. Just one rather bemused volunteer and two frumpy receptionists pretending to be busy. Though we were the only ones there it took the receptionists 20 minutes to get around to calling us.

Yes, we had to get an X-ray. So we accompanied Teischan, through multiple automatic doors, to the X-ray room (to call it a department would be a joke). [I was right. Just a strain. Ace bandage, which I had already done.]

The hospital was deserted. Empty. I have seen more activity in Arizona ghosts towns than at Huggins, of late.

Eerily quiet. So there is now this pervasive air of morbidness though the place is SPOTLESSLY clean — probably because they have so few patients.

Yes, we all know that Huggins stopped delivering babies years ago. I can understand that.

But, I heard recently that Huggins no longer has full-time cardiologists! How is that possible?

Wolfeboro, NH, the Oldest Summer Resort in the U.S., outside of Florida, is the Old People’s Capital of the U.S.

And we are not talking just, hoi polloi old folks. We are talking Mittens Romney RICH, very rich old folks with Titanium health policies.

What gives.

The new building looks a million dollars — and I know it costs much, much more.

But, the place is empty.

And then this flyer. [I know. You thought I forgot.]

So did you spot the incongruity?

Just the Web URL.

Yes, it tells you to call your primary care provider to schedule an appointment, BUT is Huggins that ashamed of itself, and I can understand if they were, after how they screwed up my PSA, that they are too embarrassed to give out their phone number?

There phone number is, in case you want it:

A change of pace, a change of style after the last 3, very successful, concerts at Cate Park — in picturebook weather.

I guess this is really the traditional music for a bandstand in the park venue.

It should be fine. It should gel nicely with the demographics of Wolfeboro, the oldest Summer resort in the U.S.A (and the location of the ‘Mittens‘ 79th home). [I haven’t seen him at any of the concerts. I guess he has live entertainment in his compound.]

If the weather is kind we might go.

The FUNNIEST Video Clip Of 2013 (Even With The Vatican): Jon Stewart, Last Night, On ‘Mittens’ ‘Open Spaces’ & ‘HooMans’. Please Watch.

Anura Guruge

I happened to catch this clip, on ‘Morning Joe‘, on MSNBC, this morning.

I had to watch it over and over again. I was lying in bed (as I am wont to do in the morning), clutching my cup of coffee (kindly provided by my dear wife). I had to put the cup down (on its electric heater) because I was in paroxysms of laughter. It just cracked me up. I laughed, I laughed and I laughed a bit more. Oh, Jon Stewart. I like his stuff on the pope too. I post that on my pope blog. All the good Catholics that read that blog, and we are talking 3,000 a day, dare not visit any joke, uncatholic sites. But, it is OK if they watch it on my site, because mine is a pope site. So, I do this as a public service. Put all the pertinent joke videos on my blog. Whatever anybody says, I always aim to make people happy. But, poor ol’ Mormon Mitt. I am sorry, but he just makes me laugh and all of those that rally though that he could beat my man, my President.

It is not that prepossessing from the outside, but many ‘experts’ will tell you that that can be a good thing when looking for good Asian food.

Teischan and I went to the ‘Sea Bird’ for dinner around 5:30 pm yesterday, after we had finished unloading the truck at Brewster after the Clearlakes Chorale concerts. Deanna and Devanee were attending the ‘after concert’ party, so it was just the two of us for a change. That was a good thing since I had hardly seen Teischan over the last 3 days because I had spent so much time helping out with the concert setup. [It is a good job that we hadn’t checked their Website because it claims that they are closed on Sunday during the Winter — but maybe by ‘Winter’ they mean post New Year.]

I hadn’t been to the Sea Bird in many, many years. In a prior life, when I owned a place on Shaw’s Pond, 6 miles down the road from Wolfeboro, I used to frequent them often.

I wanted to check them out. I was in search of a local Chinese now that I have decided to help the one in Alton pay less taxes by not going there.

I am glad that I went. The thing that struck me the most was the service. It was spot on, the best that I have experienced at a Chinese in a very long time. Thank you. Made my day, and it had been a busy and tiring day, but also very rewarding. The Sea Bird was the ultimate icing on the cake.

To be fair it wasn’t that busy. There was one other table occupied and when they left we had the place to our self and the undivided attention of the two owners. The lady who served us was one of them, Lan Sam. I also got to chat with her husband Guy Phu. Very nice folk. Know what they are doing. Interestingly Guy’s brother owns Phu Jee’s in Meredith. I know it well and we talked about that restaurant since we had visited quite recently as part of the Meredith ‘Trick or Eat‘.

Lan was attentive to Teischan. She is a mother. I pay particular attention to these things. It was the way that she treated Teischan that gave me a warm fuzzy feeling. The generous portion of ‘Pineapple Passion’ I was served helped.

We ordered our usual staples: steamed dumplings, scallion pancakes, House fried rice and the cashew chicken dinner special that came with spare ribs and chicken wings. The scallion pancakes were fluffy and dry; not oily and compressed. They were good, as was all the others. It is genuine, unpretentious ‘Chinese-American’ food — what Americans expect when they order Chinese at a common or garden, local Chinese. The portions were good and the price decent. I was pleased.

Per Devanee’s explicit instructions before she headed off for her party, I ordered the ‘usual stuff’ — which is what Devanee told me to order. She had some when we got home even though she had eaten at the party too. She had Chinese for breakfast also. Yes, she likes Chinese. Deanna and I had some for lunch. Guess we are eating Chinese for dinner too.

Food is good. We are going back. I was impressed. Good overall experience. Very nice people. Also nice to have Chinese folks serving you at a Chinese restaurant — as opposed to Americans at the Alton place who also volunteer that certain dishes are too spicy for them. Hoping to go there for dinner New Year’s Eve while we are at the Wolfeboro First Night. It is their busiest night. So we agreed that we will come shortly after 8 when things would have quietened down a bit. I will let you know how that goes.

P.S., Mitt Romney has never visited the restaurant in person, though he might have got takeout from them. That kind of makes sense. The Romneys don’t strike me as folks that will eat Chinese from a local place.
