We Still Have Some Snow In New Hampshire — May 27, 2019.

First decent day in two weeks and we headed to ‘The Flume‘ & the ‘Franconia Notch State Park‘. We had visited in June of last year and it was time to go back. Beautiful and relaxing area of the State. Always fun and so much to do.

Driving on I-93, past Cannon you could see these white blotches high up in the mountains. It was snow. This patch left over in the ski area; no doubt the remnants of a big pile that they must have piled up while grooming the slopes.

I haven’t checked Mount Washington, but they probably have a fair amount of snow up there too.

It was COOL!

2016 Shout-Out For “Sea Bird” Asian Cuisine in Wolfeboro, NH — My Favorite Chinese For Miles Around.

by Anura Guruge

I noticed that owner and chief chef, ‘Guy’ (and he is indeed a very nice guy) was wearing one of these caps. He must have noticed me looking at it because I was touched and honored to be given one. Yes, I will wear it with pride. I am very fussy as to who I endorse, especially on my head gear (typically opting to only honor nations, places or car manufacturers such as London, Scotland or MGB), but I will wear this often. SMILE.

I have raved about the ‘Sea Bird’ before — here, here & also here.

Wonderful people, good food, attractive prices and decent location. What more can you ask.

That said we don’t eat there as often as we should mainly because we don’t go out to eat that often and when we do it is because we are travelling — and we tend to travel South of Wolfeboro,

But this Summer we have been lucky enough to eat at the ‘Sea Bird’ thrice — the latter occasions a week apart, both on a Thursday, once after the “Mount Washington” cruise and the other after we went horseback riding at “Castle in the Clouds“. Suffice to say that it was delightful each time.

Just want to bring their lunch menu to YOUR attention. We like it — like it very much. All the items come with a generous serving of fried rice and a soup (Wonton or Hot & Sour). Tesichan will live on Chinese fried rice and I can eat/drink a LOT of Chinese soup. I order two or three items from #27 to #31 and that serves as a mini Pu Pu Platter with enough fried rice to keep Teischan going for a day and a half. All the other items are good. I had the Tangerine Beef the other day and it was divine. Decent prices and wonderful service — with a smile.

So check it out IF you haven’t visited recently. Also good chance that you won’t have to hang around for a table. That is kind of important in Wolfeboro, during the Summer, around lunchtime.

P.S., IF you are wondering why it is called ‘Sea Bird’ — that was the NAME of the ship in which Guy ‘left’ Vietnam, about three decades ago.

“Lake Winnipesaukee ”, New Hampshire On The M/V “Mount Washington” — Always A Treat.

By definition any day you get to spend on majestic “Lake Winnipesaukee” (in central New Hampshire) is a treat. If the weather is just perfect, and the ‘Big Lake‘ calm as a Mill Pond, you really luck out. Well that is what it was today.

We were treated to a cruise on the Lake, on the M/V “Mount Washington”, to/from Wolfeboro, by a friend of Deanna’s. It was grand. Picture perfect as the pictures testify. Relaxing too.

The Mount and I go back to 20 years. But this was the first time I have been on it since September 2002! While I have no issues whatsoever with the lovely ‘boat’ over the years I have had some major disagreements with the ‘management’. But today I did not have to deal with any of them and the worst culprit of them was not on board. So it was a good day. We had fun … and ended up at the ALWAYS delightful “Sea Bird“, Chinese Restaurant in Wolfeboro, for lunch with two other folks. It was a good day. SMILE.

In my all time favorite newspaper, the U.K. “Daily Mail”, which I read daily, in bed, while drinking my coffee and listening to CNBC … waiting for 9 am so I can also catch some TV news. Click to access original. Always worthwhile visiting the “Daily Mail”.

What made seeing these pictures even more special and pertinent is that I am just finishing the book “Mount Washington Reoccupied” (The experiences of a scientific expedition upon the highest mountain in New England–1932-33) by Robert Scott Monahan — the father of our friend (and Devanee’s mentor) Dan Monahan of ‘Clearlakes Chorale‘ and ‘Barbershop‘ fame. This book, published in 1933, talks a lot, as you would expect, about the frozen wonderland ice formations and rime — such as 42″ feathers appearing overnight on a ‘guy wire’ following a storm. Keeping rime off the anemometers, even one that was heated with a 450W electrical element, was a constant challenge and it is fascinating to read about the challenges, 80 years ago, of just trying to get halfway accurate wind speed readings — stuff we kind of take for granted today.
