Why BOTH The Australian & New Zealand Cricket Teams Are Wearing Black Armbands At The Sydney Test — The Bushfires.

by Anura Guruge

It was hard to miss with both sides wearing the black armbands.

Usually it is to mourn/mark the death of a famous national player or a family member of one of the players, e.g., to honor the death of 22-year old West Indian, Alzarri Joseph’s Mother in February 2019.

Well in this case it is different and I am NOT sure whether black is the right color.

Both teams, RIGHTLY, are honoring the fire and emergency crews that are fighting the horrendous bushfires burning all over Australia.

I am glad (and humbled) that the players are making this gesture. Bravo. Well done.

Just not sure that black is the right color.

Yes, there have been deaths and there will be more due these fires.

But, right now they are honoring those fighting the fires.

I would have preferred to see them wear another color, say red or orange.

I, per my “eagle eyes” reputation, do not miss these things. But, did not know who had died because that was not included in the commentary snippets in the highlights package. I had assumed it must be an ex-player and wondered if it would be one that I knew.

So, I had to Google. A player’s father-in-law! Hhmmm. I guess it is up to them — and to be fair Tim Paine is playing, as the wicketkeeper no less.

Anywho. Now we know.

Beaujolais Nouveau Day, Every Year, Is On A THURSDAY — So Friday, Nov. 20 Is NOT The Day.

Attacks in Paris means we have to TONE DOWN 2015 Beaujolais Nouveau Day.

That is a given.

Yes, we have to observe SOME MOURNING.

There are certain things in life that are fixed, inalienable and absolute.

You are either pregnant or you are not. Your birthday is your birthday, the day that you were born. It is not on an arbitrary day that is more convenient for a party. By all means you can have a ‘birthday’ party on whatever day you desire, just don’t claim that that is your birthday. Your birthday is your birthday.

U.S. Thanksgiving, since December 1941, is always on the 4th Thursday of November. Yes, of course, you can have a Thanksgiving ‘dinner’ on the 4th Friday BUT that will not make it Thanksgiving.

Beaujolais Nouveau Day is ALWAYS on the 3rd Thursday of November — exactly a week ahead of U.S. Thanksgiving. That is fixed and sacrosanct. By all means you can celebrate Beaujolais Nouveau the next day, on a Friday, or as I did last year, well into December or even early January. Just don’t try to make out that Beaujolais Nouveau Day is on any other day bar the 3rd Thursday of November.

So this year, Beaujolais Nouveau Day WILL BE on Thursday, November 19, 2015. THIS Thursday.

This, as I posted, was what was originally purported to be the
Georges Duboeuf label for their Beaujolais Nouveau 2015.

That could still VERY WELL be the case for the U.S.

But, here is a picture of the Georges Duboeuf 2015 Beaujolais Nouveau bottles, 3,200 of them, that arrived at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport on October 31, 2015 — the Japanese, as I have mentioned, BIG on the Nouveau.

I, again, stress that the U.S. 2015 Georges Duboeuf could be different. The Japanese label too much like ones used in prior years.

I am struck by how SIMILAR the 2015 sounds. Fresh, refreshing, fruity, some tannins (which is a must and good).

Sounds very promising. But we will have to be careful how we ‘celebrate’ 2015 Beaujolais Nouveau Day.

I will keep you posted.

It will be difficult to have the traditional Paris <–> London races etc., for obvious reasons.

France and the World will still be in shock and mourning next
Thursday, Beaujolais Nouveau Day 2015.

Yes, the cartons with the bottles will already be in the
U.S. and other countries.

BUT MAYBE we should rethink HOW we mark this Beaujolais Nouveau Day.
I for one will be ‘happy’ to forgo celebrations per se.

So just a quick heads up.
