Growing up in Ceylon, half a century ago, I was familiar with a cute saying: “those that know, know“!

It was used by meat sellers when they were selling PORK to Muslims. They would not advertise the pork as pork since that would make it difficult for the Muslims to buy it openly.

So, they left the pork unlabelled & told people who asked: “those that know, know“.

Muslims knew it was pork & they could buy it without the word pork ever coming up or getting mentioned.

So ….

Those that know, know“.

I have always told you that I have an irrelevant & irreverent (British) sense of humor. SMILE.

Jews & ‘Atheists’ Will Live Longer In The Future — Per ‘PEW Research Study’.

by Anura Guruge

This is kind of wild.

BUT, I think I kind of found the explanation. If you read the fine print it it says the data is from the UN — and that life expectancy within countries is NOT available!

Bingo. I looked up the life expectancy for Israel. 82.05. So, that is how Jews lead the table.

Not sure where they found the data for the ‘unaffiliated’ — what I treated as ‘atheists‘, though I am fully aware that ‘unaffiliated’ is broader and includes folks like I who do not believe in any religion per se, irrespective of a belief in God.

Now it makes more sense and I can see why Muslims prop up the table. They were using data from countries ravaged by violence.

Hhhmmmm.

So, nowhere near as ‘good’ as it initially looks.

But, I wanted to share.

One God, Three Faiths & Free Will In Light Of Last Week’s Atrocities In The Middle East.

by Anura Guruge

Last week we had the nerve gas attack in Syria and the bombing of the Coptic Christian churches in Egypt.

Both had to do with religion. In the case of Syria, two different factions of Islam (Shiite and Sunni) while in Egypt it was the ongoing 1,400 year feud between Christians and Muslims.

But ALL the people involved in both these atrocities believe in and worship the SAME GOD.

To I that does NOT make sense and never has.

One God.

And then you have the issue as to why this One God permits such atrocities in HIS NAME.

That is where Christians, starting with the popes, always seek refuge in Free Will (and how God refuses to micromanage the actions of humans).

I have always believed that this Free Will argument was the ultimate in copouts.

Then yesterday, after a Facebook interaction with my favorite Catholic priest, Father Anthony Churchill, on this subject, I had a blinding epiphany. See below.

God MAJORLY interfered with Free Will when he, intentionally, inserted Jesus into the World.

Humans did NOT have a say in that.

That was all God’s work on his own prerogative.

At the time he decided that the World needed Jesus there was a perfectly GOOD RELIGION in the Middle East — what we now refer to as Judaism.

OK, the Free Will people will contend that it was humans, i.e., some (but not all) the Jews, that decided that they would not accept Jesus as the true Messiah. And if all had then we would not have this mess. Yes, I can see that argument.

But, God, is omnipotent. Knows everything and more. The ultimate clairvoyant. He know what the future holds.

So he MUST HAVE known that my introducing Jesus into the World he was going to create a SCHISM, a divide.

And to I that is where he violated Free Will.

IF he had NOT introduced Jesus into the fray we would NOT have this mess and all these killings in the name of God.

We would just have ONE GOD, ONE FAITH.

Just a thought.

As some of you know I am totally and utterly areligious and have been so for at least 40 years — though I like to confound people, especially Jehovah’s Witnesses, by telling them I am a reformed, born again, heathen.

The Facebook conversation that I had, IN PUBLIC, on Father Churchill’s timeline.

Anura: So, dear father … how do you rationalize this. Of course the pope will want us to pray … but I am not sure for what. I am so sick and tired of all these religion-based killings. And in this case IT IS ALL THE SAME God!

Fr. Churchill: The people who do this kind of atrocity have a very different image of God.
A God who would bless these actions would be a monster.

Anura: Father, it is ‘funny’ you should say that. Last night I watched the 2016 movie ‘Jackie’ about Jacqueline Kennedy during the first few days/weeks after the tragic assassination. She unlike her husband was not a great Catholic — though one has to wonder what JFK confessed during his confessions. This movie is said to be fairly accurate. Jackie has a couple of long conversations with an old Catholic father. In one she confesses that “JFK never spent an entire night with her during their marriage”. That is not relevant to this … She referring to the death of her two babies and then her husband does ask the priest about God.
Father, we have talked many times about God Free Will and not micro-managing. I will grant God that. But, PLEASE, PLEASE explain. Didn’t God REALIZE that he was creating 3 religions. That is NOT micro-management. He himself created the FIRST SCHISM — on purpose. IF God had made sure that there was ONLY one religion that worshipped him the World would have been a better place. AMEN.

Fr. Churchill: Anura. This is a busy week but a brief response. No one would suggest that “God invented three religions” all teaching something different. As Christians, we see God revealing Himself in the Old Testament leading to the ultimate revelation in Jesus. Jews do not accept Jesus in this sense, and so we are divided as Christians from those Pope John Paul described as our “older brothers and sisters.”
Muslims claim a further revelation to Mohammed. Both Christians and Jews reject that claim as false.

And into this dialogue, as IF to prove the point, one of Father Churchill’s followers interjected: “That’s Allah for you…..”

Think – Today: Why Is The Blade On A Guillotine Angled?

by Anura Guruge

guillotineWouldn’t you have expected it to be straight or rounded? While you are at it: where did it get its name from and does it pre-date the French Revolution?

Think first, then research, then THINK again. Think for the pleasure of thinking.

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “Do Christians, Jews & Muslims Share The Same Heaven” — nobody, of course, knows for sure and there is not even universal consensus that there is indeed such a heaven. But, the conventional wisdom among those that believe in heaven is that Christians, Jews & Muslims must share the SAME heaven since they all believe in the same God and a major point of going to heaven is to be with God.

Think – Today: Do Christians, Jews & Muslims Share The Same Heaven?

by Anura Guruge

thinktodaybanner

heavensgrocerystoretopWorth a thought? I am NEVER going there and have no desire, whatsoever, of going there. I actually do NOT believe in an afterlife. Nada. But, that does NOT stop me from thinking on behalf of those that do? Mean if you are planning on going to heaven don’t you want to know who else will be there? And then there is the question of the martyrs from the various religions. They, per tradition, automatically go to heaven. NOW think about that. Wow, there could be people up there that might cause you to raise an eyebrow. {SMILE}

Yesterday’s ‘Think’: “How Long After The ‘Big Bang’ Did Light Come To Be” — the ‘Big Bang’, per the theory, was far from a conventional explosion, despite the name. There was NO sound, and there was NO flash. That much we can deduce. Why? The ‘stuff’, the ‘material’, the ‘particles’ needed for complex ‘things’ like light just had not come to be! Yes, it is all theory and conjecture BUT they [i.e., scientists who work on this stuff] reckon that it was at least 400,000 years — and possibly MUCH, MUCH, MUCH later (like a few hundred MILLION years) — before there was any light in the Universe. Google it. Read more. THINK. {SMILE}

Google ‘refugees’, ‘Myanmar’ or ‘Burmese’ for many, many other articles.

I have over the last year repeatedly spoken out against the misguided, extremely insecure extremist Buddhists in Sri Lanka. The extremist Buddhists in Burma, the inspiration for what is taking place in Sri Lanka, are even worse!

There is hardly any coverage of what is taking place in Myanmar (Burma) these days — with the extremist Buddhists, just like in Sri Lanka, trying to purge the minorities.

In the last 48 hours I have seen headlines talking about “SAVAGE Buddhists”! That a decade ago would have been an oxymoron.

Savage Buddhists?

How could that be. It is a religion of compassion. A religion of tolerance.

I am NOT a Buddhist. But I grew up in an extremely activist Buddhist household. My adopted father, to my shame, became an extremist Buddhist (albeit in his old age) — as are many of my cousins (though age alone cannot be used as an excuse by them).

Growing up Buddhist I thought that tolerance was a virtue. Despite ardency of the Buddhism in our household we had Christians in the family and our BEST friends were Christians and Muslims. This is why extreme Buddhism in Sri Lanka, to me, makes NO SENSE. My adopted father’s BEST FRIEND was Senator Abdul Aziz (who at the time was one of the richest men in Ceylon). Because of kidnapping fears (mainly from the Catholics) I was ONLY allowed to approach two cars, after school, at 1pm — IF my father couldn’t be there because he had been detained at work. One was Uncle Amarasinghe’s car (and he was somebody that my father had gone to school with) and the other was Senator Aziz’s black Peugeot (driven by his wonderful driver). So 40 years hence when I see my adopted father supporting extreme Buddhist monks who advocate violence against Muslims it confuses me.

I have NO patience for extremist Buddhists.

I have already put forth my solution to curb some of their vigor. At a MINIMUM Pakistan, Bangladesh and UAE should REFUSE to play cricket against Sri Lanka. Ideally the cricketing world should do to Sri Lanka what they did to South Africa for ’20’ years. Boycott them until they renounce Buddhist apartheid.

This persecution of non-Buddhists by Buddhists has to stop — Worldwide. It is Wrong. What would the Buddha Say? He was not perfect, BUT I am sure of one thing about him — he would NOT have condoned violence. The notion of ‘savage Buddhists’ would have appalled him. So IF you are a Buddhist cut out this nonsense, not for you, not for me — but for the sake of the Buddha.

Another Friday The 13th; Really A Month Too Early To Be Significant — Since It Was All To Do With The Dissolution Of The Knight’s Templar.

Anura Guruge, June 8, 2013.

Anura Guruge

Despite all the other theories and beliefs, this ‘superstition‘ about Fridays the 13th being unlucky really appears to have its roots in Friday, October 13, 1307, when, with the blessing of the French Pope, Clement V (#196), the first of the Clement V  popes, the French King, Philip IV, who was heavily in fiscal debt to the Templar’s (the original international bankers), had most of the Templars in France arrested.

It was a bad day for the Templars — and was really the first major financial crisis in world history.

Hence why people were afraid of Fridays the 13th. They didn’t want a repeat of what happened to the (far from) ‘poor’ Templars.

This fact tends to be forgotten.

But, I, like a few others, want to make sure that we don’t forget why Friday the 13th is significant.

Today, at sundown is the start of Yom Kippur. Given that many Jewish holidays start on a Friday I have to assume that over the centuries having a holiday start on a Friday the 13th is quite common place. To be fair the Jews were probably very glad to see the backs of the Templar — who loved nothing better than butchering Muslims and Jews (given that they were supposed to be celibate).
