The ‘Caster Semenya’ Testosterone Decision Bothers Me.

I actually see, and can appreciate, all sides of this sad and unfortunate story.

But, this decision that ‘she’ has to take testosterone lowering drugs in order to compete bothers me MUCH.

It wasn’t as if she ever CHEATED or took testosterone boosting drugs.

From all that we know — and have been told — this is how ‘she’ was born and grew up. ‘She’ never did anything to change her body chemistry.

So why is she being penalized? That seems like unfair discrimination.

It bothers me.

All I can tell YOU is that there has been a HUGE, DAILY interest in my November 20, 2015 post about the “Oxford University Women’s Rugby Team” nude calendar. No, I have yet to receive any of the 4 (yes, 4) calendars I ordered.

I happened to hear about the Newcastle initiative and felt compelled to SHARE it with YOU given that they are doing both men and female versions and I do NOT want you ladies to feel in any way deprived.

As I said with my “Oxford” post neither Deanna or I have any problems with tasteful calendars such as this — for CHARITY. Neither of us would have any qualms if our kids posed for such an initiative. Nudity is natural. Enjoy.

Merry Christmas.

The Floods Of ‘Biblical Proportions’ In Colorado Will Further Increase OUR NH Property Rates This Year And Next.

HT_payton_peterson_co_flooding_lpl_130913_16x9_608Of course you have no choice but to feel very, very bad for them. I would hate to have to endure what these poor folks are going through. I, given my atypical thought process, think it is unfortunate that the news media, today, has started revelling in calling it a flood of ‘biblical proportions‘. I know that Colorado is a very religious state. So what is the implication here? That God got bored with the machinations in Syria and said lets have a flood of biblical proportions. I would prefer if they just blame it on global warming or better yet Chris Christie losing weight and thus tilting the axial balance of the world.

As I said in this post home insurance rates are going through the roof, though most don’t seem to have noticed or cared. Must be nice not to even a raise an eyebrow when premiums go up 10%(+) a year.

CAB70CAC161A0101_RegularIt s true that we have been having a lot of natural disasters of late affecting property. This flood is the latest.

So you can’t really blame the insurance companies.

I find it amusing that in all their very clever and cute TV commercials they NEVER really talk about home insurance rates. It is always their ‘cheap’ auto insurance rates. As my insurance agent (who drives a $90,000 Cadillac convertible) points out, insuring a $30,000 car does not carry as much risk for the insurance company as insuring a $300,000 house with contents. Makes sense.

So while I feel real bad for the poor folks in Colorado, I am already bracing myself to see another steep hike in my home insurance rate next year.

Just remember who gave you a heads up on this.

Have YOU Noticed That Your Property Insurance Is Going Up? GEICO Is Only ‘Cheap’ For Auto.

Our insurances, auto and property (combined), comes up for renewal towards the end of this month.

We had been with Hanover, through our local Alton agents at Cross, for a number of years. We have not made any claims during that period. But, when I got my renewal papers all my rates had gone up — in particular the rates for the property (i.e., house) insurance. Did not make sense to me. Then I had a chat with our, always delightful, agent. She tells me it is because of the glut of ‘recent’ natural disasters around the country — and even in our backyard (and I do mean our backyard) in terms of the 2008 (or was in 2009) tornado. But, it irks me. So on principle I am terminating my policy with Hanover.

Checked out GEICO. Their auto insurance is a TAD, and I really do mean a ‘tad’, cheaper. But, they don’t themselves write property insurance. They go to another underwriter. Their property insurance rates are HIGH and they knew it. Together, with all of the bundlings discounts, it is still MORE EXPENSIVE than what I am being quoted by Hanover. So much for GEICO. You have to be careful with them. ALL they really want to do is to get a bank account number or credit card so that they can start billing you ASAP. I was not impressed.

I can’t get hold of a Progressive Insurance Agent! I would pay MORE to have insurance with Progressive because I love their ads. So I am willing to pay, say $40 a year more, just so that I can feel proud when the Ads come on. But we don’t seem to have any local Progressive Agents.

Yes, my agent has found me another firm which is fractionally cheaper — provided I write her a check close to $2,000 to cover the whole year! [My 21 year old son, who likes to speed (like his dad he claims), is on our policy. That explains about $400 of that premium.]

But, just a heads up. Check your insurance rates.
