I no longer do it by rote as I used to — i.e., fire up Garmin Express each and every time I charge my Garmin Fenix 5 Plus by connecting it to my PC. I, however, did yesterday, Friday, May 10, 2019.

I saw the notification that NEW MAPS were awaiting download. I immediately clicked the INSTALL button.

It was quite a big download. Even over USB it took about 25-minutes. And it told me it would take some time too. Hate to think how long it might take over Bluetooth.

Definitely suggest you hook up with Garmin Express soon as that Garmin Connect doesn’t try to download the maps over Bluetooth.

The installation on the watch took slightly longer than previous. But, there were no glitches.

From my records the last map update was in early April — about 6-weeks ago.

So, this is good.

If you have a Fenix 5 Plus series I would definitely make sure I get these the latest maps.

Garmin Fenix 5 Plus — A New Set Of Maps, Including TopoActive For U.S. & Canada, Now Available.

When I connected to Garmin Express today, i.e., April 10, 2019, it told me that there was a new version of the maps.

I asked for the download. I was USB connected, so it didn’t take long. Not long at all. Under 5 minutes, I am sure.

Maps installed within seconds of I unplugging the watch from the USB cable. Tried the local maps. Seems fine.

This is just a heads up.

Huge $150 Price Cut On Garmin Fenix 5 Plus Watches! WOW.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. From Garmin. Across ALL Fenix 5 Plus models.

$150 price cuts also reflected at Amazon.

Wow. This can’t be just for the holidays. That is quite a drop in price.

The Fenix 5 Plus is now cheaper than the OLDER Fenix 5 was in April. I know. I checked prices all through April.

Yes, of course, Garmin is feeling the heat from Apple, Fitbit, Samsung and others.

But, not sure this is fair on those of us who buy Garmin watches soon after they are released.

Just a heads up.

At $649.98 the Black-on-Black Garmin Fenix 5 Plus is an ABSOLUTE STEAL.

Garmin Fenix 5 Plus — A New Version Of ‘US & Canada’ Maps Now Available.

When I connected to Garmin Express today, i.e., October 26, 2018, it told me that there was a new version of the ‘US & Canada’ map.

Also claimed that it would take 1.5 hours to download and install. That must be over WiFi.

I was USB connected. Still took 32 minutes.

I would assume you would want the latest maps.

So, a heads up.

New Version Of ‘ActiFace’ For Garmin Watches, v7.1.4 — Works Best With Small Donation.

by Anura Guruge

Notice the “Donation Setting”.

ActiFace“, for Garmin, my preferred and default watch face on my Garmin Fenix 5 Plus, is at Version 7.1.4 as of October 11, 2014.

The icons have been changed. I think it looks better.

The BIG change, however, is that there is a “DONATION” setting — in Garmin Connect. Unless you ENABLE it YOUR user settings are NOT ACTIVATED. You don’t have to make a donation! You just need to acknowledge that you have seen the “DONATION” setting. I actually DID make a small donation. Only fair. It has to be a lot work. So, I was cool with that. I think we should only consider making a donation.

Here is the New Documentation.
