It Felt Real Good To Watch Some Proper Test Cricket After Nearly 3-Months & ‘The Century’ Was A Bonus. (Smile)

by Anura Guruge

I haven’t watched any cricket in nearly 3-months. There wasn’t anything compelling. Yes, there was Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh but those matches tend to be boring grinds. So, I have been watching Netflix & Amazon Prime & quite enjoying it.

But, I sure wanted to watch this England v New Zealand series. I haven’t seen New Zealand, in any format, in nearly (or possibly even more than) a year. So, it was good to see them though I was disappointed to see ‘Kane Williamson’, a cricketer that I am rather fond of, get out rather cheaply.

I make a point of trying NOT to divulge SCORES or big news in my headlines. I do NOT want to spoil it for those that haven’t got around to watching the highlights. They don’t have to read the BODY of the post. But, they might SEE the Header.

That said, getting to watch “Devon Conway’s” debut century was a bonus. Right from the very start I had this feeling that he would score a debut century. And, was I right. Nice, classy effort. Nothing flamboyant. Just very workmanlike.

Well, this is good. Watching cricket, on a daily basis, is very much a part of my life.

All The Cricket Action Is Now On ‘ESPN+’, NOT ‘Willow TV’; ‘Willow’ TV Is Sucking Wind.

by Anura Guruge

There is plenty of LIVE cricket again
BUT NOT on Willow TV.

It would appear that Willow TV screwed up BIG TIME when it came to getting 2021 cricket series coverage licenses.

They have NO REAL, i.e., MEN’s International, cricket for the next 3.5-months. But, in the meantime some hard to ignore series are taking place: West Indies vs Sri Lanka T20 & Australia vs New Zealand. In past years these would have been on Willow TV. They had the ‘franchise’ for all those countries. But, not right now.

So, a BIG Heads Up. Don’t sign-up (or RENEW) Willow TV before checking what is coming up.

I was FORCED to check ESPN+. 12-, 13-years ago ESPN+ carried a lot of cricket. Then the likes of Willow stepped in. The tide seems to be turning again.

So, as I said, a Heads Up.

Seems Incongruous That TWO Touring Test Cricket Teams, One In Australia The Other In South Africa, Come Down With The Flu.

by Anura Guruge

From Google News.

Google for more.

Very well could be a total coincidence.

But, it struck me as curious and strange. Two touring teams, thousands of miles apart, getting hit with similar symptoms — affecting MULTIPLE KEY players.

Yes, of course, I am a confessed, professional cynic.

In both instances only the touring team affected — and multiple, key players at that. Home team untouched.

Yes, it could just be a fluke. Let’s hope so.

In cricket we have had match-fixing and at least one act of terrorism. We really don’t want germ warfare getting thrown into the equation!

Well, I am going keep an eye on this. So, watch this space. SMILE.

Why BOTH The Australian & New Zealand Cricket Teams Are Wearing Black Armbands At The Sydney Test — The Bushfires.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access the Australian “Sporting News” original.

It was hard to miss with both sides wearing the black armbands.

Usually it is to mourn/mark the death of a famous national player or a family member of one of the players, e.g., to honor the death of 22-year old West Indian, Alzarri Joseph’s Mother in February 2019.

Well in this case it is different and I am NOT sure whether black is the right color.

Both teams, RIGHTLY, are honoring the fire and emergency crews that are fighting the horrendous bushfires burning all over Australia.

I am glad (and humbled) that the players are making this gesture. Bravo. Well done.

Just not sure that black is the right color.

Yes, there have been deaths and there will be more due these fires.

But, right now they are honoring those fighting the fires.

I would have preferred to see them wear another color, say red or orange.

Australia v New Zealand Boxing Day Test Match Will Be On Christmas Day In The U.S.

by Anura Guruge

This has to do with the 16 hour time difference between Melbourne, Australia and U.S. East Coast. That is a BIG time difference. But, it is still going to be incongruous having a Test match being played on Christmas day — even if it is at 7pm at night. That said, I will probably watch it.

As has been the case in recent years we will have two parallel Tests — the other the South Africa v England Test from South Africa. That will air on Boxing Day.

An England v Wales Showdown Is NOW Possible At The Rugby World Cup 2019 — WOW!

by Anura Guruge

Click to access my post from just 3-days ago.

That was a turn for the books. New Zealand trounced by England at a World Cup — this time in Rugby. New Zealand did NOT look like the team that I had seen in the previous matches.

What was that statistic I heard — New Zealand’s FIRST World Cup loss since 2007! First loss in 19 matches. England last won against them in 2012 (albeit not in a World Cup).

So, this was quite sensational. Quite the match. I watched the (above) highlights TWICE — just to make sure.

Wales go in as FAVORITES.

So, we have a good chance. Fingers crossed.

Who do I support: Wales FIRST, England second. SMILE. At my core I am Welsh. SMILE.

Wales v England Showdown Is Possible At The Rugby World Cup 2019, But Unlikely.

by Anura Guruge

For it to happen now, both England and Wales will have to win their respective semi-finals this weekend. That would mean a England v Wales final. That would be great for us the British, but, alas, I just don’t think it will happen.

Why? The New ZealandAll Blacks‘ — defending Champions from not just the last World Cup, but the one before that too.

They have been awesome. Just magical to watch. While England, obviously, has played well to get to the Semis, I just have a sneaking feeling that the All Blacks will outgun and outrun them come Saturday.

But, we can keep our fingers crossed.

One Memorable ‘Haka’ — Farewell To The New Zealand ‘All Blacks’ Rugby Team By Airline Staff.

by Anura Guruge

So this is the ‘Air New Zealand‘ staff doing a spirited haka to wish farewell to the ‘All Blacks‘ heading for the Rugby World Cup 2019.

Not often that you get to see women doing the haka and to I it makes this even more special.

Would appear that the whole team (probably upwards of 22) were not there — up front. From what I can see just 4, in orange vests, came as representatives. Not sure what the logistics were. But, you can see that there is genuine passion and affection on all sides.

Just for the record, this was 2015, when the ‘Air New Zealand’ staff did a welcome haka for the victorious ‘All Blacks’ after the 2015 World Cup.

Good News For BUSY Rugby Fans, 17-Minute Highlights Of 2019 World Cup Matches, In HD, Available On YouTube (FREE).

by Anura Guruge

Just a very partial listing from YouTube.com.

Given that NBC holds the U.S. broadcast right for the 2019 World Cup I did not expect to see much on YouTube.

I was pleasantly surprised. NBC, for a change, is being NICE. Yes, they are but 17-minute HIGHLIGHTs but it is in HD and appears to capture what is needed. Yes, it does leave you feeling a bit lost and empty at times, but it is better than nothing.

To be honest, I am quite cool with this. I do NOT have time to watch a full 90-100 minute game — not with my writing and also watching cricket! So, this suits I.

Yesterday, I watched two matches, back-to-back: New Zealand v South Africa & Fiji v Australia. They were both beyond excellent. Must watch. Honest. Some of the running. Will leave you breathless.

New Zealand Rugby Team ‘Haka’, At The 2019 Rugby World Cup, For The South Africans.

by Anura Guruge

The New Zealand, ‘All Blacks‘, rugby teams, over the years, are who made the ‘Haka‘ famous.

They, big, brawny and formidable are the ideal troop to do this.

This, at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, ongoing right now, is good. Can’t say it is classic, but it is good. This was the first ‘Haka’ of this World Cup. The New Zealand team will do a ‘Haka’ at the start of each game.

It is, actually, a TRIBUTE to their opponents! Not a challenge. It is honoring them before the battle commences. A very nice gesture. This ‘Haka’ was for the South Africans (in green).

Look at the size of one of the players who stands up and walks to the front. I used to play rugby and would have hated to come up against that guy. He is HUGE.
