Even more of the historic aspect of Canyon de Chelly as opposed to its majestic grandeur.

Yesterday I shared with you the ‘Massacre Cave‘ ruins on the North Rim. This is the cave itself where 115 Navajo, men, women and children, were massacred by the Spanish, in 1805 — with guns.

Just the NAME ‘Massacre Cave‘, on the North Rim, tells you ALL, chillingly. 115 Navajo, men, women and children, were massacred in the caves, by the Spanish, in 1805 — with guns.

These ruins are NOT really a part of that Massacre. They are ruins that are BELOW the cave, on the other side of the Canyon.

I have already talked about the ‘Antelope House‘ ruins. This is the artwork from which it gets its name. In the North Rim.

Continuing the series on Canyon de Chelly but now on the historic side as opposed to its undeniable grandeur.

The name tells it all when it comes to these ruins and they are, as such, the second best known of the ruins, after the easily accessible ‘White House’ ruin. These ruins are prior to the ‘junction‘ when the Canyon splits into ‘North‘ and ‘South‘. It is about 45-minutes on horseback and about 10 by jeep.
