Garmin Express Is Now At 6.5.1.0 (As Of June 7, 2018).

I got this update a few minutes into June 7, 2018, i.e., like at 12:15am. It is the first update I have had on Express since getting my Garmin Fenix 5 a month ago. I kind was expecting one, so I was relieved to get it.

As I had previously told you, Garmin Express (at least on Windows) does NOT auto-update or provide you with any notification that an update is available. You have to check manually. Which I always do.

NOTE. Something I discovered today, prior to updating to 6.0. IF you are getting a ‘Garmin Server Error‘ when using Express it means YOU need to update Garmin Express. Happened to me when I still had 5.9. That prompted me to CHECK for Express updates. As soon as I had 6.0 … all was GOOD.

Garmin Express Is Now At 6.0 (As Of January 11, 2018).

by Anura Guruge

I updated it today, on Windows 7, to 6.0. I think the update was released in the last couple of days.

As I had previously told you, Garmin Express (at least on Windows) does NOT auto-update or provide you with any notification that an update is available. You have to check manually.

Going from 5.9 (December 16, 2017) & 5.8 (November 17, 2017) to 6.0 in January 2018 is consistent with their stated goal of an update a month.

What I still cannot find, to my chagrin, is an update history — so that we know what is new/fixed in 6.0. Why Garmin is so secretive is a mystery.

Garmin Express Is Now At 5.9.0.0 (As Of December 14, 2017).

by Anura Guruge

I just updated it, on Windows 7, to 5.9.0.0. I think the update was released on December 13, 2017.

As I had previously told you, Garmin Express (at least on Windows) does NOT auto-update or provide you with any notification that an update is available. You have to check manually.

I had downloaded 5.8.0.0 on November 17, 2017. So it appears that they are updating Express every month. I gather that that is also the new goal for Garmin Connect Mobile. A new update every month.

Not sure what going up to 5.8 from 5.7 did. I haven’t seen any differences. Maybe it was to add support to the Vivoactive 3.

Garmin Vivoactive 3 Firmware — Now At 2.70 [& Update History].

You should be able to find the latest firmware news here.

Firmware 2.70 for the Garmin Vivoactive 3 was released on Friday, December 8, 2017.

Though not listed as a ‘fix’ bluetooth pairing appears to have been improved.

But, then again it might be the latest update, 4.1.11, to Garmin Connect Mobile.

I would suggest that you make sure you are at these latest levels. Seem to make a noticeable difference.

My New Garmin Vivoactive 3 Paired With My Android 7.0 Tablet FIRST Time — No Issues!

by Anura Guruge

This was the replacement, from “Heart Rate Monitors USA” (who have been OUTSTANDING), for my first Garmin Vivoactive 3 that died exactly 2-weeks after I got it.

Though they shipped this brand new replacement on Tuesday, I only got it today (Saturday) because UPS is so, so pathetic.

Last time it took me 22-attempts over 4-hours.

This time — BANG. First go. Took seconds. I could NOT believe it.

4 things changed.

  1. The Vivoactive 3 has yet another FIRMWARE update. We are now at 2.70. NOT 2.60 or 2.50.
  2. There was a new version of Garmin Connect Mobile (for Android) yesterday, i.e., December 8, 2017. The Android version is at 4.1.11.
    ….
  3. I restarted the Android tablet prior to attempting the pairing.
    ….
  4. I did a FORCE STOP on Bluetooth, on the tablet, just prior to the pairing.

It was probably the new software that made the difference. I had shared my experience and screen shots with Garmin.

But, it is easy enough to do the other two steps as well.

Hope this helps.

The Garmin Vivoactive 3 Bluetooth Pairing Problem — With An Android 7.0 Tablet.

by Anura Guruge

THIS is why it took me nearly 22 attempts (or more) to PAIR my new Garmin Vivoactive 3 with my ASUS ZenPad 10.1″ running Android 7.0.

The Bluetooth pairing message on Garmin Connect would not result in the Tablet generating a Bluetooth notification.

Other times I would get the Bluetooth pairing message on the tablet — BUT Garmin Connect would not recognize it.

Garmin Support wanted me to get this screenshot.

Garmin Express Does Not Auto-Update Or Provide Notification — It Is Currently At Version 5.7.0.0.

by Anura Guruge

Garmin Express‘ (on Windows) does NOT auto-update or let you know when there are new updates available. I learnt this to my cost when I installed it on a backup PC. The version installed was newer than I had. Yes, I will confess. I had not bothered to check for updates because I assumed it would let me know. Not so.

So, as of October 2, 2017, Garmin Express is at Version 5.7.0.0.

The Beta Garmin Connect APP I am running on my Android 7.0 tablet claims to be at: 3.22.1.2 (dated 3 Oct. 2017 @ 04:41:12 GMT).

I am going to keep an eye on this to see how often it gets updated.

My Vivoactive HR, per the unit, is at SW Version 4:00. That is what Garmin Express also tells me on a regular basis. I plan to keep an eye on that too.

Hope these software version numbers help.

We were at the ‘Back to School’ night, last night. We met and spoke with Mrs. Leggett, Bill Lander, the Asst. Principal et. al. They NEVER mentioned this.

Would it have been that hard to have a poster up or make a PA announcement?

Well, they managed to get Deanna mad.

Hurricane Sandy: Alton Central School (ACS) Closing & Lack Of Phone Notification

Alton Central School (ACS) closed for the day on Monday, October 29, ahead of Sandy.

Given that the safety of the kids is the #1, #2 & #3 priority of all concerned, I have NO problem with that. That was fine, though the heavy rain and winds didn’t kick in till about 4pm Monday.

I assume that the decision was made by the new Superintendent. IF SO, I hope he is as diligent about school closing and delayed start when we have SNOW.

We live off Prospect Mountain Road, and the school bus that serves us has to go down Water Street and up Muchado.

I have seen the school bus go down Water St. SIDEWAYS, more than once — with no traction and obviously no control, despite the automated chains! Yes, the bus has got stuck in snow on Muchado.

But, at least in the past, there was a cavalier attitude about ‘snow days’ — the excuse being that they would have to make it up in June. So, we also then get the ‘delayed start’ and ‘early release’ game play — because those don’t count as ‘snow days’. My point is simple, IF they closed yesterday, can we also CLOSE when we have snow so that I don’t have to watch the school bus go down Water Street SIDEWAYS? Though I am a fairly hardy person, and nothing much phases me, seeing a school bus sliding down a hill is not a pleasant sight. Yes, we did call up and complain.

We did not receive any telephone notification on Sunday that ACS was to be closed Monday.

Last school year, we would get 3 phone calls (house line, my cell, Deanna’s cell) every time somebody sneezed at ACS — with the phone calls always timed to perfect for 7pm.

On Sunday there were no calls.

Deanna just happened to check her e-mail late Sunday night. Usually I too get an e-mail, but I must be black-listed, or at least brown-listed, because I write posts such as these. C’est la vie.

Monday night Deanna called the school to see if there was a message about Tuesday. NADA.

Kind of strange all together. Yes, Deanna called and talked to somebody about it today.
