Friday the 13th, November 2020, Does NOT Count; It ONLY Counts In October.

by Anura Guruge

Please click on image to access my last — & very definitive — post on this matter. Thanks.

I have covered this “Friday the 13th” so, so many times that it does NOT make sense to do it all over again. SMILE. Nothing new to add. Said it all before. So, please read IF you are new to this. Thank YOU.

I Got My 2020 Flu Shot Today — At ‘Goodwin Community Health’ In Somersworth.

by Anura Guruge

I typically like to wait till closer to Thanksgiving. But, last year I had it on the 8th. This year the 9th. In both instances only because I happened to be at — or close — to my “doctor’s”.

Today, I had to have a mini-physical ahead of my cataract surgery on November 25. 2020. They asked me whether I had the shot — & if not, if I wanted it. It is always easier & quicker to get it at your doctor’s. They have the paperwork & they worry less about ‘interactions’ since they ‘know’ your ‘record’.

So, I had it done. It really was painless. Did NOT feel it. Noticed a slight discomfort for a few minutes many hours later. But, even that is gone.

Last Time Thanksgiving Fell This Late — I.E., On November 28th, As It Does This Year.

by Anura Guruge

November 28: 1946, 1957, 1963, 1968, 1974, 1985, 1991, 1996, 2002, 2013 & 2019.

Not that long ago. In 2013. 6-years ago.
You may remember it.
And also 2002.

November 22 is the EARLIEST the 4th Thursday can fall.

November 28 the LATEST.

U.S. Thanksgiving has NOT always been on
the 4th Thursday of November.

It used to be on the LAST Thursday of November.

You can have 5 Thursdays in November,
as was the case 2012 & back in 1939.

The 4th Thursday in November
was made a Federal Holiday in 1942.

So, Thanksgiving on the 4th Thursday
is but 77-years old.

Notice that the gap between Thanksgiving falling on the same day varies by 5-, 6- & 11-years.

That is the norm for such ‘on the same day’ gaps.

The 11-year gap, is atypical BUT part of the pattern — as is the case with when a given date falls on a particular day. The ’11’ having to do with leap years and the 7-days in a week. Other than the 11-year gap, which typically occurs every 4-years, the usual gap is either 5 or 6. You can clearly see that in the first image.

This image shows what I call the ‘ebb and flow’ of how the dates CYCLE through November 22 to November 28. Kind of mesmerizing — at least to I.

Last time Thanksgiving was on a Thursday — last year. SMILE.

I Got My ‘Old Man’, Over 65, ‘Fluzone High-Dose’ Flu Shot Today — At ‘Dartmouth Hitchcock’ In Concord.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and skim through here. Google ‘Fluzone High-Dose’. This was from the U.S. CDC — who we hope know what they are talking about.

Click to access my post on this topic from November 1, 2019.

I used to be ultra-skeptical about flu shots — BUT that was when I was younger and fitter.

I nearly died, this time that year, in 2010! See below. WOW — 9-years ago, and I was at least 35 lbs heavier!

I started getting the flu shot the next winter.

I am still new to the old-man flu shot. This was but my 2nd year. I really don’t know. I can’t say I sail through each winter.

But, the deed is DONE. No one but no one can now complain and nag. I got my flu shot and I got the right old-man one.

Fingers crossed. YIKES.

2010 vs 2019.

My Preference To Wait Till Thanksgiving For My Flu Shot VINDICATED.

by Anura Guruge

Click to access the original article.

I traditionally get my Flu shot in ‘late’ November.

I have only been getting the flu shot for about the last 6-years — and that was after I nearly died.

From the start I preferred to get my flu shot later than sooner. I know that pharmacies and drug stores start offering it in August, but that never made any sense to I. Nobody has any idea what the flu strain is going to be that early.

Yes, yes, yes, I know that THEY have CLAIMED that they don’t change or refine the vaccine as the year progress.

Well, here is PROOF that they do! I always suspected that the drug companies did. If they didn’t, they would not be human. Human impulse to improve something if you can.

Well, I am vindicated. SMILE.

I get nagged starting in September about the flu shot, though, thanks to this blog, I have written proof that I get my flu shot in November.

Now I am vindicated. SMILE. Did I already say that?

Friday, November 23, 2018, Is ‘Acadian Day’ In Louisiana — Commemorating The Arrival Of The ‘Acadians’.

by Anura Guruge

The original Acadia in 1754. Click to ENLARGE. From Wikipedia.

Yes, my beloved ‘Acadia National Park‘ is related to the Acadians but semi-indirectly. The actual ‘Acadia‘, as can be seen from the above map, was further north, in Canada. But, the notion of calling that whole NE area ‘Acadia’ persisted.

Canada has a ‘National Acadian Day’. The Day After Thanksgiving holiday is restricted to Louisiana.

40-Minute Eversource (PSNH) Power Outage In Alton (NH) — June 18, 2018.

by Anura Guruge

It was from around 7:05 to about 7:45pm, on Monday, June 18, 2018. We, in Alton, New Hampshire, were having but light rain — but we know there were thunderstorm to the South of us.

We were watching Episode 2 of “Anne Frank Diaries” on Acorn TV went all went dark.

We were the first to call to report an outage.

To be fair to Eversource (a.k.a. ‘Eversore’) this appears to be the first outage we have had since November 29, 2017 — i.e., 201-days!

WOW. 201-days.

In November 2017 we had three (3) outages in the month.

Well, I am not complaining.

On January 3, 2018, in anticipation of the “Bomb Cyclone” snow storm we had got a new generator — our 3rd. This was meant to be a backup for the other two — we needing two generators to power up 70% of the house.

Well today was the first time I got to use the new generator, a 7,000-watt Troy-Bilt (from Lowes), with electric start, in action. Once I remembered how to start it, it started first time. [I have now put a sticker on the switch I need to have on ‘ON’ before the electric starter kicks-in!]

So, that alone was good. I like to run my generators for 30-minutes every 6-weeks or so to prevent rust. So, this achieved that.

Glad power came back ….

I was expecting it to be out till the early hours of the morning.

3rd Eversource (PSNH) Power Outage In Alton/Barnstead (NH) This Month!

by Anura Guruge

This was totally unexpected. It had been a warm, sunny day.

Then, BANG, 2:09pm — LOSE POWER.

Third time this Month, November 1, 8 & 29! When I did the above calendar I realized that they were all on a Wednesday.

Coincidentally we had also lost power on November 29 three years ago — in 2014.

We were without power for 3.5 hours. Not funny. They said power was likely to be restored 3:45pm. At 4pm I hooked up our two generators. Power was back around 5:30pm.

India vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, November 2017 — What A Test Match Should Be.

by Anura Guruge

Wow. This was quite the Test match. Exciting, enthralling and engrossing. I was totally captivated. Could not wait to see the highlights of Days 2 -5.

Kind of knew that the rain stoppages would lead to a draw — BECAUSE I could not envisage another Indian collapse in the 2nd innings. And in that I was right.

I think India could have won if they had another 30-minutes! And that says it all about the twists-and-turns of this game.

A wicket with the first ball of the match. Wow.

A way to start the series.
