It is by NO means one of the featured, full-length songs.

It is but a snippet, background music snuck in during a ‘Pool House’ scene.

BUT, it was electric. Gave me GOOSE BUMPS as soon as I heard the opening chords.

OH! Cat Stevens!

Cat Stevens. Cat Stevens. Cat Stevens.

What a WASTE. What a SHAME.

I grew up, in London, at the same time as Donovan and The Cat. I got to see Donovan (seated next to his beloved (actual) Aunt), but, alas, never The Cat.

But, I was a DEVOTEE.

Thought he was God. I always so venerated him for his talents and looks. I so wished I had 1 billionth of his looks — so that I might pull one or two chicks.

What a SHAME. Why? Why? Why?

The Wind” is from his 1971 album “Teaser and the Firecat“. I owned it as I did all of his albums up to the 1975 ‘Numbers’.

I wonder how many people watching “Sing” recognize the song. Know the name.

To me, this snippet, which was probably no more than 20-seconds was the HIGHLIGHT of what was a very good (and I plan to watch it again) movie.

Just wanted to share with you and give you a heads up.

Amazon Kindle’s New eBook Cover Designer (Beta) Tool Is Pretty Nifty. Thanks Kindle.

Yes, most publishing platforms now provide some sort of cover design tool. Though I generally create my own covers using Word (yes, word) or PowerPoint I am always glad to know that I have a fallback option if I get fed up messing around trying to meet the margin requirements.

In Kindle’s latest newsletter I happened to see that they now offer a cover designer — albeit in beta.

Today, now that I have a ‘second’ between books, having published my 18th (as a sole author) over the weekend, I decided to give it a try. Yes, I got a couple of error messages but it was easy enough to circumvent past them.

It looks pretty decent. Yes, I could create any one of these covers, in my sleep, in Word or PowerPoint. But, I am glad that I now have another choice.

Yes, of course, I am working on yet another book. For the last 20 years or so writing books is something I do on a daily basis. Yes, these covers above will give you a clue. I will even tell you more. With luck, if I live long enough, there will be a series of books. I collect trivia and data points like there is no tomorrow. Even if I don’t remember it all, I invariably remember how to go back and retrieve what I was thinking about. Seems like a shame not to share this given that I can easily cover popes, astronomy, computers, calendars and numbers — just to start with. Yes, numbers. There is a lot of stuff you can learn about numbers.

But, I have made a promise to myself. I am going to slow down. I have published 7 books so far this year. That is a bit insane, even for me. IF I continue at that same pace, one that I have been working at since September 2011, I could complete at least 3 more books this year. BUT, I am not going to. I am going to cut back on the hours I spend writing books. Maybe just 4-5 hours a day – 2 of them on my ‘midnight’ 3rd shift.

We Dodged Another Recession. 4Q 2012 GDP Was Positive. Barely. The Bare Minimum. But, Positive. So No Blizzard Related Recession.

See that little blip at the very right. ‘0.1’. That was 4Q 2012 GDP. Never mind that it was 0.1, the smallest number that they can report. It was positive. We are in the clear for another quarter. Click to ENLARGE.

I had been meaning to write about this for 11 days since the REVISED 4Q GDP for the U.S. was released on February 28, 2013 — the day that the old pope, Benedict XVI (#266) officially resigned and left the Vatican. Suffice to say I have been crazy busy with pope stuff and continue to be.

I was waiting for the number. I was lying in bed, drinking my coffee, with CNBC on. When the number came in I gagged, more out of amusement than anything else.

I am so glad that after 4 years in power the Obama White House has finally come to realize that these are THEIR NUMBERS and a little bit of steaming, if not outright cooking, is OK — even expected. What is the point of being in power if you don’t abuse it — a bit.

The initial, first-cut reading of 4Q GDP, given Hurricane Sandy, at been negative. That was not good. Two quarters of back-to-back negative GDPs and we are automatically in a recession.

I was worried that the Blizzard Nemo might do to 1Q 2013 what Sandy had done to 4Q. That would have meant a recession. Not good for any of us, politically or financially.

But, common sense obviously prevailed in D.C., particularly at the W.H. Revise the 4Q GDP to 0.1%.

Everybody is now happy. It is positive. Even if 1Q 2013 comes in negative we are in the clear — since 2Q looks ‘OK’, sequestration or no sequestration.

Stock market is doing good, though my son, the new stock market wizard (with impressive results), got me to short the market on Friday. I indulged him, as I am wont to do. What is the point of having kids if you don’t indulge them. Of course there has to be a correction soon. So he will be proved right. Question is how much money we would have made by shorting. I, being poor, didn’t ‘bet’ that much. Don’t have the money. He was betting 2.5 times more than me. I am happy. I am the one who told him, about a year ago, that he, given the way his brain works, will be good at stocks. After a shaky start he is looking impressive. I could see a Guruge Hedge Fund in the future. That would be a riot. The ONLY other Sri Lankan I know who had a hedge fund is now in jail! But, Matthew has a different pedigree.
