Looks Highly Unlikely That The Sony a7 III To Be Announced This Weekend.

by Anura Guruge

No chatter at all, at all.

So, we have to start thinking end of March or maybe even mid-April.

My druthers insist that a new a7 announcement has to be imminent. But, I could be wrong.

Just keep YOU posted, as promised.

IF Sony a7 III To Be Announced Within Week — Lack Of Rumors/Chatter Seems V. Strange.

by Anura Guruge

There has been a muted expectation that
the Sony a7 III might be announced at the
March 18 – 21, 2017,
The Photography Show“, in the U.K.

was discussed in this post.

IF this is to be the case you would have thought that there would have been much more ‘chatter’ by now.

With the Fuji X-T2 and the Olympus OM-D E-M1 MkII, last year, there were tons of ‘leaks’ at this stage, i.e., a week ahead of supposed announcement.

Are we in for a disappointment?

Is Sony this good at keeping announcements under wraps?

Don’t they need to invite press to the event etc.?

Just seems strange.

Hope I am wrong and that we do see the a7 III unveiled this weekend.

Fingers crossed.

More Bad News From Nikon Might Signal A Much-Needed Re-Trenching/Consolidation Of The Digital Camera Market.

by Anura Guruge

Another BAD NEWS Press Release
from Nikon on February 13, 2017.

nikonbad

Click to ENLARGE. You can find original Press Release at Nikon.com.

This Press Release right on the heels of the one that
the much anticipated 1″ DL compacts have been cancelled.

Mobile phones with high-quality camera capability have been steadily eating into digital camera sales for the last few years.

It is finally beginning to take a heavy toll. Nikon could be the first to stumble.

Nikon currently, per DPReview, has 250 cameras on its books. That is crazy.

Canon has 278, Sony 277, Olympus 243, Fujifilm 239, Panasonic 193 and Pentax 135.

That is a total of 1,615 digital cameras from 7 camera manufacturers — at an average of 230 per vendor.

I have consistently maintained that this is too many. Each camera that you keep on your books costs money.

Nikon announced 14 new cameras in 2016 — 3 of them being the 1″ DL compacts that were cancelled yesterday.

Nikon and the others MUST cut back on new releases. We do NOT need so many variants at so many different price points.

Just a couple of good ones, at the low, medium and high bands.

The camera industry has ALREADY seen a sea change in vendors. Kodak, Polaroid and Agfa are no longer the market leaders they one were.

We have seen such dramatic shifts in leadership in the computer industry. Once famous names, now no more; e.g., NCR, Burroughs, CDC, Univac, DEC, DG, Wang, Stratus, Sun etc. etc.

The same WILL happen to these digital camera vendors. Mark my word.

New Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 — Not Convinced It Is Worth $601 More Than A Sony a6500.

by Anura Guruge

pana

My comparison of what I look for in a camera.

I could be wrong but I don’t see the justification for the added $601.

IF it was APS-C or Full-Frame — yes.

But, darn it — it is a Four-Thirds sensor. Panasonic appears to be playing the same game recently played by Olympus with the much anticipated OM-D E-M1 Mk II. That too was priced, body-only, at $1,999.

I think the Four-Thirds vendors are HOPING that a $1,999 might make their cameras look better. Not sure that that is going to work.

Yes, the Panasonic GH5, at the end of April, with a new version of firmware, is supposed to get some groundbreaking video features. That has zero value to me.

I just can’t see paying $2,000 for a 20MP Four-Thirds body. Period!

It would be competitive if it was $1,400 U.S.

Will Japan’s Latest Earthquake (Nov. 20) Again Affect Camera Shipments By Sony, Canon, Nikon etc.?

Latest November 20, 2016 earthquake (and Tsunami).

There has been no reports of any crippling damages as yet.

So all could be fine. But even a couple of days worth of delays at the Japanese end could affect Christmas availability.

I will keep an eye and let you know. This is just a heads up.

Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk II WAY TOO Overpriced For A “Four Thirds” Camera.

by Anura Guruge

oly2000

The Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mk II has some pretty impressive specs. BUT in the end it is still a “Four Thirds” camera and sensor size does matter.

This is STUPID pricing.

$400 more than the Fuji X-T2 and the Fuji is an APS-C sensor.

Same pricing as the Nikon D500.

I would pay $2,000, body only, for for a Nikon D500. But for a “Four Thirds” Olympus.

I think it is at least $200 overpriced.

Not that I was thinking of getting one. I am STICKING with APS-C. Thanks.

Olympus Provides Photographic Tips For Shooting Fall Color — Shamelessly Advocating Post-Processing Cheating!

by Anura Guruge

olympusfall

Click here to access Olympus original IF you like to CHEAT.

Post-processing of Fall Color pictures seems particularly WRONG.

What is the point.

If you are going to alter color, temperature, ambience etc. WHY bother going out and shooting.

Just grab some pictures off the Internet and go to town.

I find post-processing kind of offensive. Kind of like doing a TRUMP to your photographs.

I see on Facebook, to my intense amusement but also subject to my derision, some folks who ONLY like post-processed images. SMILE.

Great timing for Christmas!

But where is the Olympus E-M1 MkII? No mention even as pre-order.

My plan is NOT to get ANOTHER camera this year and wait until January 2017. But that plan may fall by wayside.

Olympus Discounts Zoom Lenses By $100 Ahead Of OM-D E-M1 Mk II.

$100 discount already appearing on Amazon. Click to access Amazon listing.

$99 for a 40-150mm zoom is pretty attractive even if it is but a ‘middle-of-the-road’ lens.

Interesting move my Olympus. Yep, this could sway some to seriously think about the OM-D E-M1 Mk II.

I have no Olympus (or for that matter any Four-Thirds) lenses. This would be a great start.

The New Sony a6500 In Terms Of Raw Specs Shames Both Canon M5 & Olympus E-M1 MkII!

Wow. Wow. WOW!

In terms of raw specs the bloody Sony a6500 blows everybody out of the bloody water.

But, I just cannot muster any enthusiasm, let alone passion, to get another Sony! Sony’s, from my limited experience, leave me FRIGID! I am not going to get a camera that I do not like. Sorry.

I really need to give image stabilization (IS) some serious consideration. Why?

Because I keep on drifting towards the Canon M5 because of its APS-C sensor. Do I want to compromise with a Four Thirds?
