These are the two ‘Nullity of Marriage’, i.e., marriage annulment,
decrees issued by Pope Francis on September 18, 2015.

The REASON for their being TWO is that
one is for the Latin Rites Catholics
and the other is for the Eastern Rites Catholics
— given that EACH has its own set of
Canon Laws.

They are both ‘motu proprio’ (on his own impulse (or initiative))
edicts. As the name says it is an edict enacted by a pope
without seeking ‘blessing’ from a council or synod.
A pope can do that and it is a perfectly valid decree.
It can ONLY be overturned by another pope.

The two ‘motu proprio’ edicts are:
“Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus”
(Latin Rites)
“Mitis et misericors Iesus”
(Eastern Rites)

As is the case with nearly ALL papal documents
the TITLE is the first few words of the document in Latin.
So the title per se does NOT refer to marriage or nullity!
Instead the title in each case refers to Jesus (Iesus).
“Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus” — Clement Jude Lord Jesus.
“Mitis et misericors Iesus”  — Jesus, forgiving and merciful.
