No post-processing whatsoever!

Took these 18-days ago, but was too busy to get around to posting them. But, I did not want to lose them or spoil our ‘taking selfies my way’ saga.

Those of you familiar with my ‘taking selfies my way’ know that I cannot resist the large mirrors at the ‘Cinemagic’, Portsmouth, NH. This is the third set of selfies from there this month — the last on February 14 when we went to see ‘Paddington 2‘. This time it was to see ‘Sherlock Gnomes‘.

Then for dinner at the “Portsmouth Brewery“. Their men’s restroom is tastefully done up in burnished brass to look like the inside of a brewing vat. Neato. Had to take a picture.

Second time taking selfies with the Google Pixel 2 phone I got for Christmas 2017.

“Sherlock Gnomes” Movie (2018) — Fiendishly Clever, Cute & Comic.

Quite the yarn. Very entertaining. Very clever. Lot of fun. You will LAUGH and you will come out refreshed.

Went to see it, on Easter, in Portsmouth (NH) at Cinemagic, after going to the ‘ocean’ and before going for dinner. Third movie we have seen this year, all at the Cinemagic, and there is an obvious theme in that the other two were: “Paddington 2” & “Peter Rabbit“. Yes, we like cartoons, featuring make-believe entities set in Britain. In a way there are similarities between all three of these movies, “Paddington” and it both set in London — but it is all good.

Definitely helps IF you know your Arthur Conan Doyle in that there are references to things such as the Arthur Conan Doyle.

Curious, THOUGHT-provoking portrayal of Sherlock — though we also get to meet his ex-finance. Curious that Elton John was the Producer! Was that a coincidence.

We liked it. It might NOT be everybody’s cup of British tea. Helps if you are an Anglophile or as in my case, out-and-out British to the core.

Second time at the ‘Cinemagic’, Portsmouth, NH — in a month! Last time was January 15, 2018 when we went to see “Paddington 2“. Then today was when we went to see “Peter Rabbit“.

They have big mirrors and the men’s room is inevitably empty.

Fourth time taking selfies with the Google Pixel 2 phone I got for Christmas 2017.

“Paddington 2” Movie (2018) — Best Of British Whimsicality Epitomized.

by Anura Guruge

Of course it did not disappoint. That would have been impossible. This is an immaculately crafted movie — as you would expect.

It is exactly what a family movie of this genre is meant to be: sloppily sentimental, clever, funny, cute, dramatic in parts and captivating at multiple levels.

To use a good ol’ British expression very much in keeping with this movie — it warms the cockles of your heart.

Enjoyed it very much — though it brought tears to my eyes a couple of times.

Yes, it is a movie about a very intelligent, talking bear. So, one cannot be too fussy about inconsistencies in ‘reality’. Based on the very tall skyscraper, the contemporary Volvo and police cars, the story would appear to be set in the 21st century (early 21st century may be it) — but there are a lot of telephone booths and no cell phones. All adds to the charm.

Of course, I recommend it highly. Can’t wait to see it again. Have seen the first ‘Paddington‘ twice. So, this won’t be any different.

I only have one criticism and that might have to do with the projection equipment at the Portsmouth (NH) Cinemagic. While the color of spot-on and vivid in all close-ups, it looked washed out and foggy in the wide-angle shots. It was OK. It was just that the colors did not pop. Looked like it was in low-resolution, but w know that that was not the case.

So, having been foiled on Friday, by a leaky roof at the ‘Regal Concord 10‘, from seeing it on opening night, we went to Portsmouth to see it on Sunday — at the Cinemagic. That is a much nicer cinema — despite my concerns about the color.

I am miffed! I had been looking forward to this for days. NOT often — actually can’t remember the last time — that I tried to go to a movie on its opening night.

May the POX be on “Regal Concord 10“. How bloody pathetic? Just a bit of rain.

Typical New Hampshire.

Not amused. Going to go to Portsmouth next time. Should have gone to Portsmouth in the first place.

I only go to the “Regal Concord 10” because it is the closest. It has no other redeeming virtues. Just a dank, often dirty pit and now it will be even more musty. Maybe the State will close it down as a health hazard.

“Paddington 2” Will Be In New Hampshire, This Friday, January 12, 2018. A Heads Up.

Loved the first movie. Seen in TWICE, once in January 2015, when it first came out and ‘recently’ on Netflix (or similar).

Definitely want see this sequel — ASAP. Hoping that we might be able to do so this weekend. We will see.

I have been known Paddington all my life — the first ‘Paddington’ appearing in 1958, when I was 5 and a vociferous reader of English books. I also got to be very familiar with the eponymous railway station. So Paddington is special to I.

I will, of course, write a review as soon as get to see it.

Enjoy.
