Paul is as good a gardner as he is a mechanic — & that says much because he is an exceptionally gifted mechanic. His flowers tell their own tale. He is very dedicated & passionate. He gets up at 4am, every day, to water them. And it shows. He claims that his display, this year, isn’t as good as those of prior years. I disagree. I think they look just fine & dandy. Thank YOU, Paul.

It is that time of year again. Needed to get my 2002 Jaguar XJ8 inspected. Well, there is only one person around here that I trust with my Jags. Paul Bousquet, “B-Boys Auto Repair” in Barnstead. Paul, always, has a magnificent display of flowers at his place and all the flowers are his. He is an amazing person. So many talents. The foliage was on the way back. I stopped at three places.

Since I lucked out in finding him 2-years ago, Paul Bousquet, the co-owner of ‘B-Boys‘, in Barnstead, has been the ONLY place that I will take my cars — and there was 5 at the last count — for repair or inspection.

I think the world of Paul. He is a real gentleman and a gifted mechanic and his son, Jeff, isn’t half-bad either.

Paul in addition to his automotive magic is a master gardener with very green thumb. He gets up at 5am, or earlier, in Spring-Summer, to tend to his beautifully maintained yard. I was there this afternoon, our van being inspected, and I had to take some pictures.

Paul Bousquet, “B-Boys”, Barnstead (N.H.) — An Absolute Gentleman.

by Anura Guruge

B-Boys Barnstead New Hampshire Anura Guruge

That I think the world of Paul Bousquet, the owner of “B-Boys” auto shop in Barnstead, New Hampshire, has been well documented on this blog.

Since I serendipitously discovered them in May of last year, I have entrusted all our vehicles to Paul, with CONFIDENCE — and that includes my two Jags.

Paul is GREAT.

Today, he yet again, demonstrated what a STAR he is. There aren’t, alas, too many absolute gentleman like Paul left in the world. He, I think, is ‘old school’ (in the BEST possible way) and so am I. We are of the same generation. We share the same values. I am loyal to those that take care of me and Paul is loyal to his customers.

I will not go into details because Paul wouldn’t want me to.

It had to do with my 1989 Jaguar V12 XJS that died on me, in the middle of the road, 12 days ago.

Suffice to say I had it ‘towed’ to Paul. Among other things it needed a new alternator. Well Paul took care of all of that.

Today, I finally got it back. I know that working on a 1989 V12 XJS is NOT easy. Paul has done miracles.

And he is SO FAIR.

Wow. The world desperately needs more people like Paul.

Enough said.

Thank YOU, Mr. Paul Bousquet. Thank You, “B-Boys”.

Another Sincere ‘Shout Out’ For Barnstead’s “B-Boys” & Paul Bousquet.

by Anura Guruge

1989 jaguar xjs v12

Paul Bousquet, the co-owner of “B-Boys” in Barnstead, NH, yet again did me proud this weekend. Thank YOU, Paul and thank you “B-Boys”.

Late last November just as I was getting ready to put my 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 coupe into hibernation all the ignition related lights on the dash lit-up like a Christmas tree. It was actually quite pretty though I immediately knew it wasn’t good news. When I had bought it in June 2105, from a very nice and honest gentleman from Vermont, he had told me, in writing, that I would soon be requiring a new battery. So I thought the battery had gone. I mothballed the car for the winter (though I now find that somebody, very small, did sleep in there during that time) and didn’t give it much thought.

In April this year I bought a “Optima Batteries 8002-002 34 RedTop Starting Battery“, with 800 Cold Cranking Amps, from Amazon, and thought I would be all set. I changed the battery (just to prove to those that claim that I can’t even change a fuse on a car). The Jag started fine BUT all the lights stayed on. Aahh! Alternator. Then a friend stopped by, put his hand down into the depths of that dark and murky engine bay, and said I had no alternator belt. That explained much.

I wasn’t going to replace just the alternator belt — and we found the broken one stuck to the engine. So I got a complete set of 4 belts from JagBits. But the alternator belt in the standard Jag kit did not match the broken one we had found. So I ordered that, a serpentine one, using the number stamped on the belt, from Amazon (who else).

A couple of people, including the friend who found the broken belt, offered to replace the belts for me. But after some due consideration I decided that I only trust Paul with my British cars. And that was one heck of a good decision.

Had the XJS taken on a flatbed to Paul Thursday afternoon — we having AAA Premier just for the ‘towing’. The XJS was ready Saturday morning. I won’t tell you how much Paul charged me or the amount of labor he billed BUT trust me, I was very happy. It was a good deal. It was beyond fair. I am very happy.

So sharing because you too might find that “B-Boys” could help you.

Thank YOU Paul.

Click to access the Lucas Oil product page for this ‘stop leak’. I bought the gallon from Amazon and had it shipped, ‘Free’, thanks to my Amazon Prime.

Of course my Jaguar XJS leaks, not much, but it does leak. Yes, I knew that when I bought it. But from what I hear it is pretty hard to find a V-12 XJS that does not leak. So it is a question of finding one that doesn’t leak excessively.

Paul Bousquet.

When I took it in for it ‘full’ shake-down at ‘B-Boys‘, in Barnstead, N.H., by master mechanic Paul Bousquet, he steamed cleaned the block and had a good look at the leak. Told me it wasn’t worth fixing it because there was at least 12 hours of labour to try and do it properly. And I trust Paul. So I have been putting a little bit of oil every few weeks or so. That said, I have probably put 100 miles on the XJS in the last 2 months. So it doesn’t get driven much.

Then, this last Saturday, we visited (as we are wont to do of late), Kati & Gordon Preston in Barnstead, with my son Matthew. The Prestons, by any measure, are AMAZING people. Gordon, a fellow Brit, is a very proficient and creative, British-qualified engineer. Plus he drives Land- and Range-Rovers. He told me about the Lucas ‘Stop Leak’ and how he uses it in his latest Range Rover. Plus it is Lucas. As soon as I got home I ordered a gallon. It just came. Haven’t put it in. BUT, wanted to share with you. Don’t think it will totally stop the leaks. But if it slows them down I will be very happy. Oh, a gallon from Amazon cost $31.29.

We got the British Green 1968 MGB on September 14, 2014. So in October it started its 2nd year with us, especially in terms of registration and inspection stickers.

This time around we took the MGB to B-Boys of Barnstead — the best mechanics, for miles, in our opinion. This was the first time that Paul Bousquet, the owner of B-Boys, had seen the MGB. Given that he is very thorough and conscientious he found a TON of bodywork that had to be fixed. We had to leave it with Paul for nearly 10 days! We missed it not seeing it in the garage.

Last year I just did not have time to go down to Concord to get NH Antique plates. This year we made time. We dropped the plates off with Paul Monday evening. Today we picked it up (though to be fair to Paul it was ready yesterday afternoon). So now it sports, for the first time, NH Antique plates — and by that virtue has an inspection sticker valid till April 2017. So we are happy. It wasn’t cheap BUT it wasn’t a total arm-and-leg either. Just a few fingers and toes.

Paul joked as to how many thousands of miles we planned to drive it before it is back for its inspection in April 2017. He knew. We will be lucky IF we drive 500 miles in total! Now that we have the V-12 Jaguar XJS convertible we don’t drive the MGB much — just enough to keep it ticking over.

Car Cheer06112015

I have already said GOOD things about Dave Gitman of ‘Car Cheer’, in Trevose (outside of Philadelphia), who sells lots of cars on eBay under the name “European-Cars”.

We got our Jag XJ8 from Dave via eBay.

Well I had it inspected for its N.H. Inspection Sticker (by “B-Boys” of Barnstead, NH) yesterday and had it registered, in NH, at the Alton Town Office on Monday.

In both instances everything went well without a hitch and that is why I felt compelled to say MORE good things about Dave and his operation.

The paperwork that Dave supplied (albeit for a small charge) was immaculate. The NH registration was completed without a single query or ‘do you have this‘. I liked that. So, paperwork, as he said it would be, was PERFECT. He has a wonderful, very proficient, assistant and she did us all proud. [Thank you.]

The car sailed through the inspection. Found nothing wrong. Paul Bousquet even went onto say that everything underneath was in excellent shape! His only concern was that I might have a problem opening the driver’s door from the inside. I had to laugh. The first time I was in the car I too thought that I was stuck and that the driver’s door would not open. I shouted at Dave. He laughed. It works FINE — the handle needs to be pressed harder than you would expect. Now that I am used to it I don’t think twice about it. Door opens fine. So that was the ONLY ‘problem’ that Paul found. I am delighted.

So credit where credit is due.

I can ONLY talk about my transaction and Dave did GOOD.

So, I will wholeheartedly recommend Dave, “Car Cheer” and “European-Cars”.

Yes, of course, being the professional cynic that I am I was skeptical and somewhat concerned buying a car, over the Internet. But, Dave showed me that it can be done and it can be done with great success.

I wish somebody had told me about “B-Boys” years ago when we first moved to Alton 8 years ago. It would have saved me a LOT of grief, time and MONEY!

“B-Boys”, run in the main by ‘Dad’, Paul Bousquet (70), is everything I want from an auto repair shop: accommodating, forthright, comprehensive and reasonable. Paul over the last 2 weeks has been a revelation to me. I, even with my gift of gab, can’t say enough good words about him. There are some people on earth that as soon as you deal with them that you know that they are ‘salt of the earth’. Paul is one of them. He impressed me, no end, the first time around BUT I didn’t want to sing his praises until I had a second encounter. Well that was on Wednesday, June 10, 2015. He inspected my XJ8. He charged me $39.95 for the NH State Inspection and for putting on my front number plate. That was a fair price. Like I told him as I was leaving, having made an appointment next week for the XJS to be inspected, he HAS ME! I am not taking my cars and the van anywhere else. He can have all our business.

I only have one concern. Though he looks in much better shape than me and I assumed me was roughly my age he is 70 years old. I want Paul around for a LONG time. I know I will never find anybody as good as him. Yes, I have met his son, Jeff, but it has been Paul who has done all the work for us so far. I ardently hope that Jeff, in time, will step into some mighty big shoes.

I found “B-Boys” in the phone book. I was in desperate need of someone to do a ton of work on our 2002 Chrysler van and get it through an inspection. “VAIN” in Alton let us down. The KIA Sportage whose lease was coming due had to be returned to KIA before June 1. Deanna had made an appointment with “VAIN” to get an estimate on Wednesday, May 27th so that I could determine whether we keep the van or get something else. We dropped the van off on Tuesday so that they would have plenty of time. Did not matter. 4pm Wednesday and they hadn’t even looked at the van! I really needed to make a decision by the weekend. I started dialing numbers. Told Deanna to bring the van home. I was not leaving it there till the next day. 24 hours was enough.

Amazes me the number of ‘shops’ in Alton that refuse to handle rust work! Vehicles in New England rust. How can you claim to be an auto repair shop in New Hampshire if you refuse to touch any rust work. That is like saying you are a dentist but are incapable of extracting a tooth. We knew the van needed some rust work attended in order to pass inspection. I wasn’t going to take it to two shops for that — one for the rust and the other for the mechanical work.

B-Boys, the name a play on their French surname ‘Bousquet’, was the fifth number I called. It was nearly 4:30 in the afternoon Wednesday. Paul answered. He said he was a full-service shop. Yes, he could take care of the rust. Told me to bring the van over. He said he will get me a price the next day and try to have it all done, if the price was acceptable, by Saturday, maybe Friday. We got the van to him by 5pm! He was true to his word. His prices were not bad. I was impressed.

He knew Jags. He knew and had worked with British cars. Unlike Alton mechanics he is willing to work on any car — personally order and get hold of any required part. My type of shop.

I only had one request with the XJ8. He had to make sure his hands were squeaky clean. And when I took the Jag over he had made sure his hands were clean.

So, if you haven’t figured it out as yet, I am recommending, HIGHLY RECOMMENDING, Paul Bousquet of “B-Boys” as one heck of a mechanic and owner of a full-service, no nonsense auto repair shop. If you are within 30 miles of Barnstead do yourself a favor. Go to B-Boys. You will thank ME for this tip.
