All The ‘CreateSpace’ Call Centers Still Active Under Amazon’s ‘Kindle Direct Publishing’ (KDP).

by Anura Guruge

KDP ‘Contact Us’ Help now includes TELEPHONE support — just like what we used to have with CreateSpace. See below.

This is new. KDP only used to be e-mail (and I would know since I have been using KDP for over 8-years).

So, I tried it out. Transpires that I got the CreateSpace Ecuador Call Center. I asked them about the South Africa Call Center. That is still active too. I was told that ALL of the CreateSpace Call Centers are still active and that the deal is that they will continue to be active.

This is GOOD NEWS. I am also very happy for the Call Center folks.

Just wanted to share this with you.

‘Hotstar USA’, On Roku, Is But A Disgraceful Indian HORROR Show.

by Anura Guruge

The ‘Hotstar’ APP for the Roku is full of bugs!

For a start it lacks an account management option. I kid YOU not. Everything has to be done through your Roku account.

This means that renewals do NOT work! It is an unmitigated disaster. A typical Indian horror show.

It might be fine on a PC or phone, BUT NOT on Roku. Trust me on this.

Plus, watching the Vivo IPL on ‘Hotstar’ is near impossible.

‘Hotstar’ is for Indian kids with ADHD.

I am DONE!

Fidelity MyVoice: Voice Recognition Login For Phone Interactions.

by Anura Guruge

It, i.e., enrollment in MyVoice, was easy and automatic — so to speak.

I had called to check on a tax issue! Yes, it is October and time to start thinking year-end-taxes. Right?

Once I entered my ‘passcode’ I was told that MyVoice was an option and I should ask the Fidelity Rep. about it.

After we talked taxes, I said I wanted to enroll in MyVoice.

He laughed and said “done”! I asked whether I have to say a phrase … NO! All conversations with Fidelity are recorded, independent of MyVoice. So, they have PLENTY of my voice recordings.

I haven’t TRIED it yet.

But, I gather, that when I next call in, all I will need to enter is my userID. Then when I start talking, ideally to a live Rep., the system will check my voice.

Neat. Cool.

Not that I call Fidelity that often. But, I like it.

John Kelly, White House Chief Of Staff, Appears To Have Been Using A HACKED Cell Phone!

by Anura Guruge

Google for MORE …

This is NOT, I repeat, NOT, an April Fool’s Joke. If it was, nobody would believe it — anyway.

This is BEYOND the pale. This is unreal.

John Kelly, before becoming White House Chief of Staff, was U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security from January 20, 2017 to July 31, 2017.

It appears his phone was compromised for some period during THIS TIME!

He was Secretary of Homeland Security and he was using a HACKED PHONE?

Come On?

What hope do we have?

Antonin Scalia — Family Decline Autopsy.

The body of the Supreme Court judge has definitely left Texas and is now enroute to Virginia.

According to ABC News, at 11 pm (on Sunday, Feb. 14), no autopsy was performed in Texas. Family declined to request one. Per Texas law, prior to the body being allowed to be taken out of the State, it was embalmed. Yes, an autopsy can still be done, post-embalming, but a lot of ‘evidence’ will be gone. Shame.

So that is the story. No autopsy.

There is a chance that an autopsy might not be performed. I heard on TV that a local Texas Justice of the Peace (JP) pronounced it a ‘death by natural causes’ over the phone BEFORE seeing the body! That is Texas.

Obama should, via the appropriate channels, insist on an autopsy. It would be a shame if conspiracy rumors continue to circulate.

[I have a personal ‘angle’ when it comes to autopsies. 24 years ago, when my adoptive mother, at 62 and in reasonably decent health other than Parkinson’s, chronic asthma and high blood pressure, passed away — unexpectedly — in her sleep, in Paris (France), my adoptive father, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to France ‘declined’ an autopsy claiming Diplomatic Immunity. 24 years later there are quite a few of us in the family that still have nagging doubts!]

Totally Hooked On Power Outlet Taps With Built-In USB Charging Ports.

by Anura Guruge

Every once in awhile I run into a product that I immediately fall in love with because it is exactly what I needed — sometimes not even knowing that I so needed it till I saw the product.

That is the case with this 6-outlet wall mount tap with 2 built-in 2.4 amp USB charging ports. It is just what I wanted. I love it.

Yes, like so many other households our house is littered with charging devices — we even have them in the car and I have a bag of adapters and cords for when we travel.

With my two cameras, the Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 and the Sony RX100 M2, and Teischan’s Samsung, I have a charging station set-up in my office just for the batteries given that I have 8 batteries in total to deal with. For convenience I have it on the floor next to my reading chair since much of what I read when seated in that chair has to do with cameras. So I also need power for a reading light and a clock around that chair. Though I have an extension strip off the wall outlet I was running out of outlets.

So the other day I was thinking that it was time to get a wall ‘block’ with say 6 outlets. I was going to get around to ordering it. Then within 48-hours I get an e-mail, purely by coincidence, by a TV promotion company trying to sell me a tap with built-in USB charges. Eureka! That is what I wanted.

I checked Amazon. Their prices were better. They actually had the TV promotion product for CHEAPER. But it did not have very good reviews.

Then I found this, the ‘Cable Master‘ product, with better reviews and only fractionally more expensive. I ordered it. It arrived Friday.

It works. Works well. The USB chargers worked, in parallel, just fine. I know that 2.4 amp is good. That is what I use in the car. I charged my pad, Teischan’s Samsung camera and my phone. All worked fine. I am chuffed. I am going to get a FEW of these. I would like to have one in each room.

Yes, down the road, say 10 years from now, I visualize all new houses with power outlets with built-in USB charging ports.

— — — — —

I can appreciate the INTENT of the ‘IVNo school shall record in any way a school classroom for any purpose without school board approval … clause — the last clause of this Bill.

It is to prevent school ADMINISTRATIONS from conducting SURVEILLANCE on teachers. I can appreciate why teachers would object to that. But we will get to that later.

I am no lawyer BUT as I read this it states, very clearly, “NO SCHOOL …“.

It doesn’t mention individual students. Yes, there is the ‘blanket’ secret, non-consensual (tape) recording law. But, that does not apply if a student requests verbal permission and does the recording in full view.

Schools are interpreting HB 507, that came into effect this school year (i.e., 2015 – 2016), as meaning that kids, with a teacher’s approval, can’t use their ubiquitous phones to record what is being said in class.

Well here is the WRINKLE in that. Students with disabilities — the so called ‘Section 504‘ kids. They are protected by a whole different (federal) set of laws. IF the 504 states that the student needs to be able to record, audio or even video, all that transpires in a classroom the school and teachers have to acquiesce!

We know. We have a 504 child. And she wanted to record some of her classes so that she could re-run them, over and over again. The ‘school’ agreed. Then they came across HB 507. THEN they said, BUT if we put it in her 504 she will be all set.

This is STUPID.

Yes, we all understand that teachers do not want to be SPIED upon. Yes, I have taught.

But just last week we all saw that incident with the school girl getting FLIPPED off her chair and flung across the floor.

Click for ‘Boston Globe’ original IF you haven’t seen this before.

Aren’t WE all glad that 3 kids managed to capture this, on video, on their phones? Yes, I know that at least one kid is going to get charged for illegal recording. I saw her and her mother on CNN. They have NO regrets. They did the right thing.

We have cameras on school buses.

I think they have cameras on corridors [– but I could be wrong on that].

Don’t we ALL know, viscerally, that we will, as with the school buses, END UP having permanent, full-time cameras in all classrooms?

So this law has to be rethought.

You can clearly see that Clause IV was snuck in, most likely at the last minute, without too much thought OR consultation. Did they for a second think about the Section 504 override. I doubt IF there is a class in NH which does not have at least one Section 504 kid.

So, this is a Heads Up. No consequence to us. Our daughter, as of next week, when Deanna updates and signs the 504, will be able to record.

TDS Internet & Phone Outage, Alton, New Hampshire, August 25 – 26, 2015 — Down For 12 Hours!

As I pointed out v. early this morning I noticed the TDS outage just after 10 pm when I went to watch my daily dose of cricket via my Roku 3. I had hoped it would be a short outage. I was wrong. At 11 pm I had to start my ‘3rd shift’ of working — though my latest book was all done. I have 75Mbps MetroCast for my work. So that was good — BUT then an hour later it went down too! For 40 minutes I had BOTH TDS and MetroCast down. I am sure there was a connection. It might have been in the common backbone — possibly outside of NH.

The TDS outage, which also affected my TDS landline, continued well past 1pm. I had a very unsatisfactory interaction with TDS’ Jamaican Call Center just prior to that. The only good news from that was that I got a ‘Trouble Ticket Number’.

TDS was still down at 8:10 am this morning. I called TDS again. Having a Trouble Ticket Number expedited matters. They FINALLY told me that the problem had to do with ‘my area’ and that technicians had been sent to fix it.

At 10 am we got a call saying it BUT I already knew that. SMILE.

So just an update.
