This is not rocket science & I am sure that many of you probably are already doing this — i.e., using ‘Quick Release’ with Garmin rather than the Garmin recommended ‘Quick Fit‘ — with impunity.
The difference between the two is that the ‘Quick Release’ has its own BUILT-IN pin(/bar) while ‘Quick Fit’ snaps onto a pin(/bar) already on the watch. To use ‘Quick Release’ with a Gramin all you have to do is remove the pin(/bar). On Fenix 6 Pros (& equivalents) this is a piece of cake. The pin(/bar) is an industry-standard tension bar. You can remove it with your fingernails without any tools. On some Garmins you will have to use a ‘special’ screwdriver.
Why bother with ‘Quick Release’ when there are plenty of ‘Quick Fit’ bands out there. Four reasons:
- They tend to be cheaper — for a given material, e.g., silicone, leather, nylon etc.
- The absence of the ‘clip’ makes them slightly lighter & easier on the skin.
- More variety.
- Fancier straps, like this shown below (SMILE).
