Sir Winston Leonard Spencer-Churchill, KG, OM, CH, TD, DL, FRS, RA, is my greatest hero, a primary source of inspiration and the symbol of my Britishness. However, this allegation does not shock or scandalize me. To be honest it has crossed my mind at various times too.

I do NOT for a second think that he was exclusively gay (i.e., a ‘raving poofter‘ per good ol’ British Public School speak). He, at worst, was AC/DC (and self-charging batteries as well, given all the time he was on his own).

He was very much a man’s man and spent an inordinate time, due to the careers he pursued, in the sole company of men. He also was a product of the ‘No Girls’ British Public School system, pre-1970s. He attended many BOARDING schools from the time he was very young. I too attended a British boarding school for 2 years — from 1969 to 1971 — before I was expelled for publicizing the amount of ‘improper’ behavior that was taking place between the ‘young’ masters (nearly all from ‘Oxbridge’) and some of the young kids. I was 16 when I started and I was shocked. Most of the boys had been at male-only boarding schools since they were 7 or 8. It was a very male culture. Read between the lines. Winston too was a product of this culture. So I am not shocked.

I do not think he was a misogynist. He was arrogant and pompous. [SMILE] Also, I do NOT think that Clementine was the easiest of wives to live with.

So? This does not alter my opinion and respect was this GREAT man — a TOWERING figure in history. I would not he here writing this in English if NOT for Winston.
