Full Disclosure.

Father Churchill & I are NOT strangers — though we have yet to meet.

We know each other through my books. He contacted me over 10-years ago after seeing my “Pope Names” book. We have been penpals ever since.

He is no stranger to the readers of this blog. He helps me out.

But, his review is genuine. Honest. SMILE.

In FULL color. Looks good.

Hard to believe. My 1st pope book! I was so, so new to popes & I was so tentative. Then I started getting all the feedback. Wow. People liked it. They had copies at the Vatican.

People started asking me what the NEXT NAME was going to be. That is what got me started on the ‘Next Pope‘ kick. Wow.

I said I would NEVER publish this book as an eBook. I was, obviously, WRONG.

The problem was that it was tightly-formatted & contained tons of tables. In 2008, eBook rendering was not good enough to deal with that. Much has changed in the last 12-years, PLUS I am much more experienced in creating eBooks. This took a fair amount of work & time. Close to a WEEK! At the rate I work, that is a LOT of work.

It looks good. I am PLEASED. I am proud of it.

Have a look. It is FREE to preview IF the $2 is too much of an ask.

It is also available, as are most of my eBooks (as of 2020), on BOTH APPLE & Amazon (i.e., Kindle). So, no excuses.

Pope Formosus (‘Beautiful’), Of The Infamous ‘Cadaver Synod’, Became Pope This Day, 1,126-Years Ago.

He was the 112th legitimate pope. But, it was a long time ago. He was the FIRST Cardinal Bishop to be elected Pope. Benedict XVI was the last.

Formosus, which is assumed to be an assumed name, means ‘beautiful’ in Latin!

Formosus, who was pope for but 4.5 years, is best known for his role, posthumously, in the ‘Cadaver Synod‘.

I Should Visit The Gilman Library In Alton, NH More Often. I Was In For A Pleasant Surprise Today.

I don’t get a chance to visit the local Gilman Library, or any other library for that matter, that often. I am invariably busy, whenever I can find some time  head down, writing. This afternoon I had an hour to ‘kill’ since I had to drop Devanee off at an afterschool activity and then pick her up in an hour. I don’t think it is worth driving back home because that way I spend ~25 just driving back and forth. So I decided to go get some gas for the SUV and then go to the library. I do like libraries. It is very soothing to be surrounded by books. Plus I like to browse through the magazines we don’t subscribe to at home, in particular ‘Popular Mechanics‘. So I walked in, and as ever started by rummaging through the ‘giveaway’ magazine box since I can invariably find a gem or two in there. It was in that box that I found ‘Mental Floss‘ — which we now get as one of my Christmas presents.

After I looked through the box, found a few old copies that I took for light reading, I straightened up. My eyes caught a familiar flash of yellow. I looked again. It was my ‘Pope Names‘ book on the library mantlepiece. I looked again, they had ‘The Next Pope 2011‘ also. On stands, stood up. Wow. I was surprised. That was nice of them. I did thank them and promised to drop off some of my newer books. I will have to visit more often.

Citizen Pope Article March 20130004
Citizen Pope Article March 20130003

This was the same reporter, a lapsed Catholic, who did a front page story on me 4 days after Benedict XVI announced his resignation on February 11, 2013.

Deviating from the mainline media that was ‘agonizing’ whether there will be a pope ahead of Easter (2013), I told him categorically that there will be a pope elected by March 18. He was skeptical. As an ex-Catholic he struggles that I am not a catholic and doing all this stuff. He said he will talk to me on the 18th to see how my prognostication worked out. Suffice to say I got that one right too! I called him last Thursday to remind him.

Hence this piece with the cute little jab that mine wasn’t scholarly work. Cracked me up. Love it when reporters try to pontificate. But it is OK. The book is done. The book will remain as a reference for the 2013 election for centuries to come. That is a the neat thing about writing pope books. They have a long shelf life.

I Have A Pope Interview Published In Slovenia.

This was a neat interview. The interviewer spoke perfect English (much better that I do). He also asked some of the most incisive questions, about the papal transition, that I have been asked in the last 3 weeks. He was good. I was impressed. So, impressed that I invited him over – since he had never been to the U.S. and as do so many, wants, desperately, to visit.

I Publish My 3rd 2013 Papal Conclave Related Kindle eBook. 3 In 2 Weeks.

What can I say. I have the material. I know how to do it. When I get my head down, I can get a lot done quickly. So, this is what happens.

‘Pope Names’ is how I broke into the pope scene. I published my ‘Pope Names‘ book in 2008. It was my first foray into what was a totally alien world for me. The book was well received. People started asking me about the possible names for the next pope. That got me doing work on the ‘Next Pope‘ — something that had occupied me for 3 years. So, it is all connected.

I did need to get my ‘Pope Names’ out in electronic form. I had felt guilt that I hadn’t done so earlier. As a bonus, I threw in all my singular research on ‘Peter the Roman’.
