The Volvo XC60 (2021) Has An Awesome Digital Dashboard Compass — But Only Visible When In Off-Road Mode!

by Anura Guruge

The $1,700 ‘Premium’ option package that provides a rearview mirror compass.

This is one of the STUPIDEST product positioning decisions I have ever encountered. IF the compass feature is there, & available, AUTOMATICALLY, in OFF-ROAD mode, why can’t it be displayed in other drive modes?

This compass is 10x better than the small ‘heading only’ compass, in the rearview mirror, available with the $1,700 ‘Premium’ option package. And here is the BIGGEST irony, EVEN if you get that package, the much better in-dash digital compass is ONLY available in OFF-ROAD mode.

STUPID. STUPID. STUPID.

Got me thinking. I like Swedes. What is not there to like about them? They are invariably good-looking (if not always blonde), congenial & generous with the booze. But, are they smart? Yes, they invented dynamite. Hhhhmmm. I will have to think about this.

This is NOT smart on the part of Volvo. Very stupid really.

It gets better (or is it worse). You, as the driver, CANNOT select Off-Road mode. On a standard XC60 (2021) there are only 3 displayed — & selectable — drive modes, viz., ECO, COMFORT (the default) & DYNAMIC.

The XC60’s computer, automatically & on-the-fly, determines whether you are off-road. It does NOT switch automatically to off-road. It is DISPLAYED if you happen to look. I guess it detects off-road by how much each tire is slipping relative to the others.

Off-road basically means very-low gearing. The XC60 grinds along & engine braking is automatically applied when going down a grade. Kind of cool.

But, the compass!

Oh, Volvo!

The Bill For My Quadricep Tendon Tear Knee Surgery.

by Anura Guruge

I had my quadriceps tendon repair surgery,
at ‘
Frisbie Memorial Hospital‘ —
performed by Dr. Charles Blitzer
of ‘Seacoast Orthopedics
on Thursday, March 7, 2019.

There was no pain to talk about
— throughout, from surgery to now.

Pretty amazing. All of it. The surgery, the recovery and the bill. Overall I could NOT have been happier.

The surgery itself was near miraculous in that I essentially had no pain afterwards. Was able to stop taking Tylenol and Aleve by Day #8. Never had to take even one narcotic pill. So, that was great.

Wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of the bill.

I am amazed. Gobsmacked. I shouldn’t complain — but, I will, because I am like that. Smile.

So, who do I have for insurance. An Humana Advantage Plan (on top of my Medicare). The Plan is HumanaChoice PPO. I don’t pay a premium. They get my Medicare premium from what I gather.

That they can just write-off $12,166.56 of the bill is MIND BLOWING. If I didn’t have insurance I would be on the hook for this.

This bill is worth studying.

I Got An AliveCor ‘KardiMobile’ So I Can Get ECGs WITHOUT An Apple Watch Series 4.

by Anura Guruge

I got it yesterday, Saturday, and only managed to try it out at 1:54am the next day. Yes, nearly 2am on Sunday. This is normal for I — and as you can see from 60bpm heart rate I do good at night.

AliveCor insists that the first ECG has to be APPROVED by a Board Certified cardiologists BEFORE you can see it. Seems like an unreasonable imposition to I. But, no way you can get around it. They say that the turn-around will be within 24-hours.

Mine was approved when I checked my e-mail at ~9am in the morning. So, that was pretty good. Looks like I will live through at least this coming week.

Don’t know it is right or accurate. The heart rate was spot on SINCE I had my Garmin Fenix 5 on — and also checked my blood pressure with a cuff. Both of them also said 60 bpm, which is fairly average for I if I am sitting down doing nothing. So, at least that part is correct.

The ‘Kardi’ APP is kind of obnoxious. Won’t let you take screenshots BUT you can e-mail your ECG. So, I just e-mail myself each ECG. They arrive as PDF. Once I have the PDF I can do whatever.

I don’t see the need for the $10/month PREMIUM option. Just e-mail the ECGs to yourself.

It does NOT require Bluetooth or PAIRING. It works via an ultrasound signal picked up by our phones microphone. So, that is easy enough.

Yes, you can let others use it. I already did. No problem.

I am NOT attaching it to my phone. That is stupid. I am storing it in the rather nice box it came in. That works. That is the blue packaging you see in the pictures.

Given that I do circulate in Democratic circles I often encounter folks that tell me how great Obamacare is.

One amusing problem. None of those that tell me how great Obamacare is get their health insurance from Obamacare!

Walk in my shoes. I do get my insurance from Obamacare. Let me tell you that it is NOT affordable. Obamacare is a FRAUD.

I, in 2015, paid an additional $1,450 in TAXES because they said that my Obamacare premiums had been too low. So my 2014 Obamacare premiums, in reality, were 88% higher than what bloody, duplitiious healthcare.gov quoted me.

I have had with Obamacare.

I got this letter on Monday, July 27, 2015.

Healthcare.gov was IMPACTED by a frigging problem? So what is bloody new here.

Healthcare.gov, ACA, ObamaBLOODYCare, has been an abortion. I was so looking forward to getting insurance through ACA. Now I hate it. Hate it with a passion. Hate it probably even more than your common or garden Tea Partyer.

I got whacked a 88% IRS Tax Penalty in April 2015 — IRS saying I paid too little for ObamaBLOODYCare. That was the last bloody straw.

I am not going to do anything about this bleeding letter. Why bother trying to see IF they can reduce my premiums. I will get whacked at bloody tax time.

I can’t wait for Donald Trump to become president just to have ObamaCare repealed.

From, and with thanks to, http://www.deviantart.com.

I checked again.

Logged onto my account at Anthem.com to see if I can print a Temporary ID Card. NO, I can’t. Still not working.

From what I gather Anthem as yet to get back to the the New Hampshire Insurance Department to explain why this is NOT working after they had led them to believe that it was — and that that is what New Hampshire consumers should be doing. Part of the reason I am checking, a few times a day, is for the Department. I have promised them that I will let them know as soon as I can print a Temporary Card. They want to know. They have been excellent.

Today is January 10, 2014. The supposed deadline by which we needed to have paid our premiums in order to have ACA healthcare coverage as of January 1, 2014. As far as I know there is no real deadline anymore! They are saying 5 day extension BUT we know that that too will have to be extended.

Well, Anthem has yet to charge my credit card for the payment I paid on December 27, 2013. That was EXACTLY 2 weeks ago, i.e., 14 days. I have heard that it is taking Anthem 17 days! This is crazy. It is so sad. Thanks to the NH Insurance Department I have stopped worrying about it. Plus I have a working member ID — as my Anthem.com account testifies.

I feel bad for those that are still struggling with Anthem — not just in NH, but around the country.

Amazes me that Anthem can so successfully GAG the media from talking about it.

I will, however, keep on plugging along.

Remember 24-days ago I said I had it with GoDaddy screwing LOYAL existing customers like me?

In that post I also said I was going to look at template-based, cloud-publishing solutions so I can finally, after 12 years, get away from Microsoft FrontPage.

Having looked at Weebly, Wix and Yola I finally settled on Yola because their price was right (though you do get what you pay for).

For $4.17/month I can get 5 Websites — each with its own domain name (given that I already own these domains).

So for LESS THAN HALF what I pay a month to host ONE (1) Website I can publish and host FIVE (5). I am bit slow on the uptick but it only took me a few days to work out that it was a decent deal.

I spent a few minutes here and there, in my 3rd 11 pm to 1 am shift, looking through their tutorials.

Today at 2 pm I paid my monies (though I could have started with a free account) and started to build the above Website.

A few surprises. What I got was their most basic PAID service, bronze. So they kept on trying to get me to upgrade to Silver. That was annoying. Though they claim 24/7 Premium phone support — that appears to be pie in the sky! When you call it says ‘No Phone Support’! Nice.

I had to visit GoDaddy and edit DNS records — not something I enjoy doing since if you screw up you are in big trouble. Then you have to wait for the DNS records to be propagated.

But, by 4 pm I have a PUBLISHED, 3 page Website. It was quick and dirty. But, it was for a 7 year old. I just wanted it up since I first created this Website the NIGHT she was born. So she has had her own, working Website with pictures from the day she was born. I didn’t want to break that and I didn’t. Yes, I deleted the GoDaddy hosting BEFORE I updated the DNS record. I do know my way around. I have been creating Websites and teaching classes on Website design since 2002.

So, Yola?

It is OK. It is the lack of phone support that bugs me — after they claim all over the place that they do.

It is possible that they are in trouble.

Now that I have 4 other Websites available, in this package, I will dash a couple more off over the next few weeks.
