Beauty Of Social Security: Payments In Arrears, Medicare Premiums In Advance!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and ENJOY here.

Got this letter from Social Security yesterday and its obvious irony made me smile.

That Social Security pays one month in arrears is legendary. So, the month you are due to start getting ‘Social’ you don’t get paid. You get paid the following month. I think this means that YOU miss out on a month while still alive but your estate will get that month when you die. Nothing you can do.

So, you would think that the same rule would apply to Medicare premiums, i.e., they will collect in arrears to stay lock-step with their payments. No, Siree. They collect premiums one month in advance! Talk about nickel-and-diming folks.

Only in the U.S. of A.

Starting in October I started getting letters and ‘packets’ from my current health insurance provider, Anthem, saying that I could be — and would be — automatically re-enrolled in the same plan as I now have IF I opt not to login to (bloody) healtcare.gov and chose another plan.

I thought they were joking. I was sure that it would not be that easy.

Last week I got another letter, from Anthem, stating what my revised new premium would be, as of January 2016, IF I stayed on the current plan and opted to re-enroll.

It was still up 19%.

But I am going to take it. I really can’t stomach the aggravation of dealing, yet again, with healthcare.gov.

As I found out this year, to my COST, it doesn’t really matter what you do on healthcare.gov. The day of reckoning is when you do your Federal taxes! So why bother. Just pay what you have to pay and then be PREPARED to pay MORE as a tax penalty in April. So screw it. I am NOT going to bother messing around with healtcare.gov. That alone would be good for my health.

So a heads up. Public Service Announcement. IF you have health insurance this year, i.e., 2015, you can keep that for 2016 — most likely with a higher premium — without bothering with healthcare.gov.

My N.H. Anthem Obamacare (ACA) Healthcare Insurance Premium For 2016 Is Up 29%! 50% Increase Over 3 Years.

Given that I do circulate in Democratic circles I often encounter folks that tell me how great Obamacare is.

One amusing problem. None of those that tell me how great Obamacare is get their health insurance from Obamacare!

Walk in my shoes. I do get my insurance from Obamacare. Let me tell you that it is NOT affordable. Obamacare is a FRAUD.

I, in 2015, paid an additional $1,450 in TAXES because they said that my Obamacare premiums had been too low. So my 2014 Obamacare premiums, in reality, were 88% higher than what bloody, duplitiious healthcare.gov quoted me.

I have had with Obamacare.

Obamacare: Educated Americans Paying $600/Month Have NO IDEA That They May Qualify For Rebates!

Just Bloody Amazing!

After, what is it, 3 years, and all this public agonizing, debate
and histrionics EDUCATED Americans (i.e., those with at least a 4 year College degree)
have NO IDEA about Obamacare.

I am an confessed political and news junkie
and I ‘lobbied’ for Obamacare.
So yes, it is true, that I probably know
more about Obamacare than is good for me.

But, how could EDUCATED Americans NOT KNOW
about Obamacare REBATES etc.
especially when they bemoan their $600/month premiums.

That Obama has done an appalling job is now beyond doubt or debate.

Since he has no shame it will not bother him.

He and his cronies are laughing all the way to the bank.

They are set for generations to come.
Obama has made thousands of multi-millionaires
through this fraud.

I just want to tell people,
unless you are earning some BIG BUCKS
there is a good chance that you might be eligible
for some monthly premium relief —
though, alas, you have to do that via the cursed
‘healthcare.gov’ Website.

From ABC. Maybe YOU should watch this IF you didn't know that Obamacare has rebates that reduce monthly premiums.

The Health-Care Exchanges go live next week, October 1, 2013. I am kind of dreading it since I have already seen how the online applications are failing!

Today various media outlets start publishing projected premium rates. Of course I was interested in what they would be for New Hampshire.

The Wall Street Journal published, above, the LOWEST monthly premiums for a single 27-year old who wants to buy health insurance in one of the 36 states where the health-care exchange is run by the Federal Government.

The $186 premium in NH puts us at #24 out of the 36. So in terms of cost we are higher end of the list.

The average premium costs across all 36 states is $170 a month. So we are above that. But the Federal Tax Credit discounts don’t appear to be mentioned. These, which can be directly applied to the monthly premiums, WILL bring the cost down.

Lets wait and see. I am hoping that it will be good news.

My ‘New Hampshire Health Plan’ Premium Went Up 13% For 2013.

NHhealthplan……
Here we go. What a nice way to start 2013. They direct bill my bank account, and do so on the first of the month, as soon as the bank opens for trading. So bang! A bit of a shock to the system because they never sent me any paperwork saying my rates were going up.

Since I have per-existing conditions and, at best, I am self-employed, I have no other realistic options. This is the only way I can get some coverage — albeit with a $5,000 deductible to make it affordable. Yes, I have gone without coverage, but given that I am plagued with health issues, not having coverage is scary because of the huge debts I could leave behind! This is why I am such a huge advocate for real Health Care reform in this country, and ‘ObamaCare‘ is not the answer, though it is better than nothing.

So this is just a head’s up. Sorry to have to start the year with this. Happy New Year.
