Sri Lanka’s Moronic President Sirisena Makes Donald Trump Look Like ‘Mastermind’.

I will say it again and again: this is so stupid, pointless and childish.

We used to have grown up, astute politicians. Now they have these mornonic, puerile clowns. This two-month fiasco was so pointless. Just cost money.

I despair.

But, at least it makes Donald Trump look good — which is a MIRACLE.

The Incomparable BBC Expands On My Theme Of Sri Lanka’s Political Soap Opera.

As the BBC also points out, what is happening in Sri Lanka is beyond the pale. It is even beyond what even Donald Trump could conjure.

Just puerile. Plain puerile. I am so, so glad that I am no longer a Sri Lankan citizen! I would be so ashamed. This is a country with a proud heritage.

This is unbecoming.

‘Temple Trees’, the Prime Minister’s official residence — I know it well. I have been there a number of times, with my adoptive father, when I was a child. I even had lunch there once.

I will keep you posted.

The Silly Soap Opera That Is Sri Lankan Politics Starts A New Season — The Silliest Yet!

This is so stupid, pointless and childish. This has been now going on for 40-years and we have only been Independent for 70.

But, here is the IRONY.

Sri Lanka is still a third-world country and you expect histrionics from the likes of it. But, compared to Donald Trump, and the totally mockery he is making of the U.S. Presidency, this does not look that bad. If anything it is still MORE civil and constrained compared to the carryings on of Trump.

So, I no longer can tell my dear compatriots — and in many cases contemporaries — to grow-up and act us adults.

I live in a country run by a buffoon with a mental age of a 9-year old!

Muhammad Ali, The GREATEST, Died This Day Last Year.

by Anura Guruge

Just a year ago.

I miss him. He was one of my heroes.

In a way, however, I am GLAD that he did NOT have to see the Trump presidency. Ali would NOT have liked it.

He still lives on, a bestriding GIANT, in my memories. He was a MAN. Thank YOU, Muhammad Ali. You enriched MY life.

If Obama Was A Precedent, Pope Francis’ Rebuke Of Trump Should Guarantee The Bully The Presidency!

Click to access another November 2012 post re. Pope, Catholics and Obama reelection.

Despite my 10 books on popes one of the many things I have yet to fathom about popes is that despite their official title of “Christ’s Vicar on Earth“, Vicarius Christi, popes appear to be extremely impotent when it comes to influencing elections.

Obama’s reelection in 2012 was a graphic example of this impotency. Pope Benedict, his Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops, around the World, railed against Obama and his supposed infringement of religious rights (mainly because of the birth control provisions within Obamacare). Pope Benedict openly rebuked the sitting President. But he was reelected by a landslide. So if that was a precedent, Trump will do well stoking a nasty quarrel with the current pope, Francis.

Disrespecting The Office Of The President Has To Always Be Wrong.

Dec2013x125

We had to pick up Teischan from Alton Central (ACS) early today. We had to go to Boston for an appointment. We went to pick her up at 11 am, which is when the Kindergarteners are coming out.

Parked right by the paved walkway to the front door was an SUV with a bumper sticker on its window with a picture of President Obama and the word ‘Ass’.

I was saddened and shocked.

Whether you like him or not as a person or as a political figure, he is, whether we like it or not, the legitimately elected, with a plurality of the popular vote to boot (never mind the Electoral College), the President of the United States Of America.

Insulting him, insults the Office of the Presidency of the United States Of America.

Insulting him, insults what he stands for while he is in office, the country that he is the President of: United States Of America.

Insulting him, insults the whole notion of democracy, given that he is a democratically elected president.

Just like you would not insult the flag, a policeman or a child, it is improper to personally insult any Head of State, especially that of the only world Super Power.

Of course you can make jokes about him, and I frequently do.

But, a bumper sticker alluding that he is an ass only makes an ass of the person that thought it was appropriate.

My primary concern was the impact of that bumper sticker on the KIDS of ACS. It was pictorial, and ‘ASS’ is not too difficult a word to read. Do we really want kids to think that calling the President of the United States Of America an ass is acceptable? That is no way to teach them to respect the country, the presidency, democracy, and the privilege of living in a country where you can have bumper stickers about a president.

Yes, there is 1st amendment and then there is what is right and what is wrong.

Calling him an ‘ass’ matters no jot to him, to his followers or fans. His status and stature in history has already been indelibly etched. Not only is he the first non-white president, he is also twice-elected, a Nobel laureate, a successful author and a pretty decent golfer. When American 5th graders are learning U.S. history in the year 2213, Obama’s name will be alongside that of Lincoln. Regan and the two Bushes might not even get a mention, joining the long list of forgotten presidents.

OK, I feel better now.
