Clinton e-Mail Revelations — Weiner & Huma Sharing A Laptop, Private Server Was Irrelevant, Immaterial.

by Anura Guruge

stupid222

For those of us that are technical and network/e-mail savvy, the current, James Comey initiated flap, has NOTHING to do with Hillary Clinton’s infamous private e-mail server.

It is NOT the server that is at issue here. It is the e-mails downloaded to an insecure laptop shared with a person who does NOT work for the State Department.

Same problem could have happened IF there was NO Clinton private e-mail server.

Huma could have still got classified e-mails on her State Department, “state.gov“, e-mail account.

So to bring up the server here is CRAZY.

redherringThe issue is WHY would Huma SHARE a laptop with her husband. Now it is possible that she has her OWN, password protected userID for that laptop. That is important. IF she did, then this somewhat of a red herring.

I wish the media understood these details and made a better fist of explaining them to the masses.

rokuspeedtest

This APP really should be a built-in standard feature within the Roku System menu. It is not.

Roku, in its ‘Network’ menu, does NOT provide a speed test/bandwidth test — and one really is handy if you are having loading or image quality issues (as can often be the case with say Sling). I had been using an external speed test whilst promising myself that I will check to see if I can get a Roku ‘App’ [actually a channel].

It is easy enough to find IF you Google it.

It is a PRIVATE channel. So it has to be installed from a PC. You need to be able to logon to your Roku account — i.e., you need to know your password.

Other than that it is easy enough. On the Roku, on the System menu, click ‘Check UPDATES’ to force the Roku to download and install the App.

You will love it.

As somebody who lived in Gilford for 8 years (6 of it 2 doors away from ‘THE’ beach) I am distressed that these two citations were issued for toplessness on the beach. It never even occurred to me that there were beach specific ordinances. One thing that totally puzzles me is the statement that the police ASKED if any of the women wanted to be cited! That seems very incongruous and could be interesting when the case comes up in front of a judge in October. That said I am glad that this came to be. Now the legality of such ordinances can be put to the test. A claim that Gilford beach is ‘private’ made me chuckle. IF I remember right you need a ‘beach pass’ to bring a vehicle to the beach. Wonder whether this ‘private’ aspect will now raise its ugly head. Yikes.

I am so proud of the Laconia Police! That they showed undue restraint at Weirs is magic. Kudos to the department and the Commissioners.

Well, this is progress.

cics47ssadIBM’s software revenues will continue to spiral downwards because 47-year old CICS no longer rules the roost!

Yes, CICS, whose roots go back to 1966 has been IBM’s cash cow when it comes to software. CICS was IBM’s proprietary Transaction Manager — and most things to do with IT is basically a transaction.

Today, in the Internet/Linux/OpenSource world people no longer want PROPRIETARY Transaction Managers. So CICS sales are down and that more than anything else hurts IBM’s software sales numbers.

I, as somebody who made a good living as an independent IBM analyst for 30 years, have said it before and will say it again now. IBM’s tremendous successes from the 1960s till around 2008 was ALL due to the stranglehold it had managed to acquire with its PROPRIETARY hardware (i.e., mainframes, S/3x, PowerPC), networking (SNA (and I was “Mr. SNA”)) and software solutions. Now proprietary systems are anathema.

In yesterday’s results IBM said that its new mainframes are doing well. Its new mainframes are OPTIMIZED to run Linux! Yes, IBM is positioning its mainframes (and it has done so for a about a decade now) has the most scalable and reliable, clustered Linux servers EVER. And that is true. But selling mainframes as Linux servers does NOT help IBM’s software revenues.

In terms of software the 3 key products that contributed to the lion’s share of revenue and margins were: CICS, DB2 and z/OS (and its predecessors). All 3 of these are now legacy-legacy. Dying if not already dead. That is the problem. I wish I had the time to explain this more. I used to do that for a business.

IF you are a MAJOR IBM investor and want to know the real scoop contact me. I still know and understand IBM better than most of those you will see and hear on CNBC. SMILE. Yes, I am ex-IBM too.

Click to access BlueBox’s take on their acquisition by IBM.

Yes, of course, it sounds good. It has all the right buzzwords, ‘cloud‘, ‘open‘, ‘private‘, ‘service‘ and ‘OpenStack‘.

Fantastic deal for the BlueBox investors and employees. Glad for them. Way to go ‘boys’. You suckered them in good.

Not convinced it will do IBM’s bottomline any good. How many such acquisitions have we seen over the decades. More times than not it turns out to be a black hole rather than a blue box. I hope, in the name of ‘Watson’, that they didn’t buy them BECAUSE of their name!

IBM has the technology to do this all, in-house, without buying such a company.

To me, and yes I am jaded and cynical, this is just IBM wasting money to BUY ‘PR’ hoping that PR, rather than real fiscal results, will help them.

I am not convinced BUT given my deep seated love for IBM, I hope I am WRONG.

I watched live, on CNN. Made a point to see it.
Didn’t think it would effect me much.
It was a done deal. This wasn’t like 2009.
But, I cried. Cried through all 55 seconds of it.
Tears just kept rolling down.
What a great moment, one that I didn’t think we would ever see.
I am optimistic.
