On Christmas Eve, as the pictures testify, we had no snow on the ground. Then we got a smattering, just enough to make it a White Christmas. Then we got dumped upon by the Nor’easter on December 27. Another 5″ of snow December 29, through the night. About 5″ of fresh snow to shovel on the morning of December 30. These pictures tell the story.

I have seen more snow than this, but not in 2012 (as far as I can recall). It was a fair chunk. Well over a foot, more in the wind drifts, e.g., our back deck, and even more where the Alton’s ever friendly snow plow drivers try to bury us in. We are half way up Prospect Mountain, in Alton. Our altitude, above sea level, is about 660′. That makes a big difference. We get a few inches more than the folks who are a few hundred feet lower.

These were taken on Christmas Day 2012 when we had a small amount of snow.

We did get some snow overnight and it continued to snow, albeit in lightly, right through the morning. So we got a real White Christmas this year, though I am not sure whether we got 1″ of snow at the Concord Airport in order for all those “Free, if it snows on Christmas Day” offers to be valid. I will check.

Our yard, Christmas morning 2012, around 7:45 am. Compare with same view from Christmas eve — on prior post. Click to ENLARGE.

Different view. From the steps, looking straight out. It wasn’t that much snow. Yes, we put the Christmas lights on, heck with the electric bill — since we don’t pay the high PSNH rates.

Merry Christmas 2012.

Click to ENLARGE. I just took these two, from the front steps, around 3:15 pm on Monday, December 24, 2012, i.e., Christmas Eve.

Click to ENLARGE. You can see the residual snow from the ‘storm’ a week ago, on Monday, December 17, 2012. These are what is left of the piles I shoveled off the drive. So we will have some snow for Christmas Day.

Per the local forecast, at best we will get some snow Christmas Day though it is not 100%. So we could wake up to a brown/green Christmas. That would be different.

I though we had a brown Christmas last year too. But, I just went and looked at pictures from December 2011. We had a big storm on December 23, 2011. I doubled checked my ‘1-line a day diary’. Says: ‘snow-shovel’. So we must have had snow.

Here is a picture from December 23, 2011. Same yard as in the first picture above.

The difference a year makes. I don’t remember this, but this is December 23, 2011. Same yard as in the above 2 pictures. The main difference is the snow. Click to ENLARGE.

Just to make sure that I wasn’t hallucinating, I did a Google on “December 23, 2011 snow storm New Hampshire“. Got some YouTube clips that explicitly mention December 23, 2011. So, we did get a respectable storm.
