My Suspicions That ‘Amazfit’ (Per Their Usual MO) Most Likely Rushed The Availability Of The New ‘T-Rex Pro’ Smartwatch Appear To Be Vindicated.

I really do despair of Amazfit. They remind me of a 4-year old kid. Just headstrong, impetuous & still immature. They just don’t seem to learn, & worse still just don’t seem to want to learn.

This is not the first time they rushed out a watch way before it was ready. They don’t seem to care. It is true that given their cheap pricing they attract a large customer base of unsophisticated, undemanding users. That is what they rely on. Most of those that NOW buy Amazfit watches are in third-world countries. They are not that fussy. Amazfit banks on that. Shoddy goods for folks that are used to shoddy goods.

Shame. The T-Rex Pro like some of Amazfit’s prior watches, in particular the Verge that promised so much, could have been amazing IF Amazfit took the time & care to test it all out prior to rushing it out.

Well, I am GLAD I have decided to stay well clear of Amazfit watches. I do NOT appreciate rubbish.

‘Amazfit T-Rex Pro’, Like Always Looks Good On Paper, BUT Is The APP & Software As Yet Ready For Prime Time?

by Anura Guruge

As some of you know (& these posts attest) I used to be a HUGE fan of Amazfit — in particular the very good-looking ‘Verge‘. But, I despaired of the unreliability & poor quality of its APP & internal software. Hardware & display is good, ‘A’ if not even ‘A+’ while the APP & software struggles to even get a passing grade. Very frustrating. From what I see on the Web & have heard things have NOT improved greatly over the last 2-years. Folks still have major issues with just getting the watch to pair & then sync.

I also NO LONGER trust Amazfit. Just have a bad feeling about them. They come across as ‘sleazy’. So, I am NOT going to trust MY data, especially GPS data, to them. Read-between-the-lines.

So, I look at this new ‘T-Rex Pro’ & sadly shake my head. Looks great, DIRT cheap BUT I know I will not be happy. So, why subject myself to the pain.

TDS Telecom Having Issues With Internet & TDS TV In New Hampshire — Sunday, November 3, 2018.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read. From Twitter … from @tdstelecom.

Yes, I noticed it as of around 10pm which is when I started watching TV. Wasn’t too, too bad. I was recording both the “Durrells” and “The Woman in White“. From what I can see they recorded OK though the live pictures I saw were breaking up and pixelated. Just to be on the safe side I scheduled for them to be recorded again, later tonight, on another PBS channel.

The outage must have been pretty bad because it made the WMUR 11pm news. They showed the above Twitter.

This is the first hiccup I have experienced with TDS TV since getting it in late August 2018.

I will keep you posted.

Per their Tweet they hope to have it resolved by now, i.e., midnight.

The Fitbit Ionic Due For A New Firmware Update; 27.32.4.19 Was 5-Weeks Ago.

by Anura Guruge

The Fitbit Ionic Firmware update, viz., 27.32.4.19 which included Fitbit OS 2.0, was released March 14, 2018.

The prior firmware version, viz., 27.31.1.29, was released February 12, 2018.

A monthly firmware rollout is now fairly standard for these types of watches, whether Fitbit or Garmin.

So, I am anticipating an update anytime now. As we know there are PLENTY of bugs, some introduced with 27.32.4.19, such as GPS inaccuracy, that have to be fixed.

I hope they get it out sooner than later, and ideally this week! Why, I only have another 10-days with the Ionic. At that point my 12-year old gets it, in place of the iWOWNFit she got for her birthday. I am getting a Garmin Forerunner 935. Was going to get the Forerunner 645, but that, alas, like the Garmin Vivoactive 3, has too many teething issues.

So, ideally I would like to have the Ionic updated and tested before I hand it over.

May 3, 2018 would be exactly 3-months of me having the Ionic. I set that has a self-imposed punishment: “keep it for 3-months, now that you got one“!

I will, of course, keep you posted.

Garmin Forerunner 645(M) Gets Another Damning Review At Amazon — By A ‘Verified Buyer’.

by Anura Guruge

At Amazon

This is NOT good. Very disappointing and discouraging. I, like so many others, was rooting for the Garmin Forerunner 645. On paper it looks irresistible.

Shame that Garmin rushed it out before it was ready for prime-time.

That step count accuracy is poor is extremely damning. That is the basic, core function. IF you can’t trust that, then there is no point getting the FR645.

I am more or less sure that I will not get a FR645 anymore. Not worth the risk. Thinking of getting a Forerunner 935 which gets better reviews, on a consistent basis, and has been on the market for over a year. So, it is proven.

Garmin Forerunner 645(M) Continues To Get Panned At Amazon — By ‘Verified Buyers’.

The highlighted (i.e., in red box) comment, on the last line above, sums it all up — the impression that Garmin released it before it was ready to be released.

That was what they did with the Vivoactive 3 — as I found to my cost.

I had a hunch this would happen with the Forerunner 645, which is why I have maintained, from the start, that I was going to wait. I am so glad that I did NOT rush to get one.

I am, as you can see, monitoring this and keeping you posted. I will continue to do that.

It is, however, possible that I might not get a FR 645 after all! I might get a Forerunner 935 instead. It is a proven product which appears to be solid, stable and reliable.

Garmin Forerunner 645(M), With FW 2.50, Might NOT Be Counting Elevation Gains During Runs!

by Anura Guruge

Right now this is but a suspicion … a rumor.

But, one person who got the latest 2.50 Firmware for the Garmin Forerunner 645 THINKS that elevation gains STOPPED being counted during a run.

What makes this of concern is that 2 of the detailed fixes in Firmware 2.50 had to do with elevation!

This would be a TOTAL dealbreaker for I.

Measuring and keeping track of ALL elevation is a huge part of my fitness regime.

The reason I had to return my 2nd Vivoactive 3 was because the barometric altimeter STOPPED working.

So, this is of CONCERN.

I will, of course, monitor it and keep YOU posted.

Garmin Forerunner 645(M) Is Now On Firmware Version 2.50.

by Anura Guruge

As I had told you 4-days ago Garmin did roll out a new version of Firmware for the Forerunner 645 as of Monday, March 19, 2018.

It was rolled out to ~50% of customer base in the first 24-hours — and I have no clue how big that base is at present. A few hundred? Less than that.

As always there is the “numerous other fixes” and I bet it does.

The elevation/altitude related fixes are disquietning. Altitude is a BIG metric for I. If they haven’t got it right, then the FR645 is of no use to I.

Nobody knows what “changes to support factory” means and Garmin is NOT telling.

So far I have NOT seen anybody complaining about problems — in marked contrast to the barrage I am seeing for the Fitbit Ionic Fitbit OS 2.0 Firmware update,

As always I will keep you posted. Let ME know if YOU hear or experience anything so that I can SHARE.

I had seen that this was on the way, and early this morning (i.e., just after midnight) I got a notification on my FitBit APP (on my Google Pixel 2) that there was a Software Update pending.

It took me 3 tries to get it to start downloading on to the Ionic.

It refused to do it over Wi-Fi and insisted on doing it over Bluetooth. Once it started it took about 20 minutes. The APP was way-out of ‘sync’ with the watch. It still kept on saying ‘downloading’ … ‘installing’ etc. when the Ionic was way past that point … restarted and ready to go.

I have NOT encountered any problems as yet.

Syncs OK, across Wi-Fi.

My day off from running. So, do not know whether the GPS inaccuracies have been fixed.

As usual I have noticed, on the Fitbit Ionic forum, that others are having problems with this firmware update also. I think I have lucked out because my Google Pixel 2 has the latest and greatest Android software that money can get.

I will keep you posted.
