I had to call Citibank today to initiate car rental insurance claim — a first for me in 40 years of renting cars.
Citi, as ever, were very courteous, to the point and helpful.
So we go through the usual verification/authentication steps. It automatically recognizes my home phone number and acknowledges that. Asks me for the ‘authentication phrase‘ (kind of a long PIN). Did all that. Get an operator.
Asks me if they can record me saying my name (in my rather strange accent) so that they can use it to authenticate future calls by me. I was ‘OK’ with it. To be fair they are trying to protect MY account.
It is sad though, all the new steps that are being taken because of rampant credit card fraud. Cameta Camera, as I ranted a couple of days ago, now double checks credit cards with the company prior to processing the order.
Citi keeping a voice recording for voice identification. What next. DNA?
