‘Intuit’ ‘TurboTax’ ‘Satisfaction Guaranteed Refund Policy’ Is A Joke, A Scam — Totally & Utterly Sleazy.

by Anura Guruge

I will NEVER, EVER have anything to do with Intuit TurboTax again. Wow. I am in shock.

I bought the CD/Download “TuboTax DELUXE” for $120. I downloaded. Went to install it. It would NOT install since I run Windows 7. TurboTax requires Windows 10. I do NOT have a Windows 10 machine.

I thought getting a refund, giving the circumstances would be easy. A piece of cake. WOW. Not so. Took me over 2-hours just to reach a person. They could NOT do anything over the phone. Well, READ the image at the top. 5 to 7 business days JUST to review the request. Then UP TO 6-weeks to make the REFUND.

6 FRIGGING WEEKS! To refund $120 that they got from me.

That is NOT right. That is WRONG.

I never would have thought that Intuit was that scammy!

WOW.

So, BE AWARE.

HEADS UP.

I am going with H&R Block. They couldn’t be any worse. Yes, their software doesn’t run on Windows 7 either. So, I will have to use the ONLINE version. Not happy.

As regular readers of this block know, I am a HUGE & long time fan & supporter of the IRS ‘Free Fillable Forms‘. I have been doing my own taxes, without ‘tax software’ for at least the last 7-years. I can do it again, all on my own, without ‘TurboTax’ (equivalent), this year too. But, I could do with some CALCULATION help NEXT YEAR (i.e., 2021 taxes). Due to some ‘exceptional’ Capital Gains, that I could not really delay for any longer, I will have to do some major calculations next year. Yes, I could do it by hand — & I probably will. But, it would be nice to have software on hand to check my calculations — rather than getting a letter from the IRS that I screwed up. Every time I get a letter from the IRS I am sure I lose 10-years of life expectancy — hence why I am already living on borrowed time.

Well, I like to plan ahead. Belts & braces. I don’t want to jump straight into using tax software in 2022 without ANY experience of how it works. Next year’s taxes are going to be complicated enough without having to contend with new software.

So, I was going to do a TRIAL RUN this year. Try & get familiar with the software.

Well Intuit SCREWED ME. Not happy.

This is so frigging patheetic — even by D.C. standards.

This is what happens when you have software written by crackheads — and from what I can see, most of today’s programmers are ON DRUGS!

This should be a 5-minute fix and 4 of those would be for TESTING. I know. I was a high-flying programmer for 20-years, and was HIRED as a programmer by IBM in 1973 (when they had very high-standards (and after they made me take 3 IQ tests).

STUPID.

How can YOU? So trivial.

What amazes me is that it wasn’t fixed. So easy.

After A Long Hiatus Some Well Earned PRAISE For GoDaddy!

GoDaddy & I go back a long time, a very long time — 22-years or more.

GoDaddy of OLD was a GREAT, incredibly customer-focused company. GoDaddy & I, in the 1990s, grew up together when it came to the Web. We were both new and we learned together. — helping each other. I kid you not. I started using their Web hosting with Microsoft ‘FrontPage‘ and, truth be told, they didn’t have that many folks using ‘FrontPage’ at the time. There were issues BUT they worked with I to resolve them. Their support was outstanding. They had a group called the ‘Tiger Team’ that tackled the more complex problems. I dealt with them often. Yes, I had issues but GoDaddy always came through.

I was a HUGE fan and endorser of GoDaddy — with reason.

In 2013, the day Pope Benedict XVI announced his resignation my ‘popes-and-papacyWordPress Website, hosted at GoDaddy, got 160,000 hits in like 4-hours. It was NOT hosted for that level of traffic. Somebody from the GoDaddy CEO’s office stepped in, unasked, and took over ‘provisioning’ my Website. He made sure that my Website wuld cope with the spike without going down. As I said, he did this without me asking! That was support.

Then came bloody Blake Bloody Irving. He ruined GoDaddy! There is no other way to say it bluntly.

GoDaddy became customer hostile.

I moved all of my Web hosting away from GoDaddy.

Just kept my OLD domain registrations and e-mails at GoDaddy.

And then LAST WEEK!

My e-mail (i.e., anu@wownh.com) has been hosted at GoDaddy for over 20-years. It gets renewed in late December. I am used to that. Over 20-years you get into the routine.

However, in 2017, I transitioned my e-mail, still at GoDaddy, to the Microsoft ‘Office 365 Professional’ e-mail and paid $400+ for that transfer (which they, to their credit, handled very well).

Well, early December I get the usual e-mail from GoDaddy saying my $119 AUTO-RENEWAL will be activated on December 28. I have e-mail, I have been paying this for years, so I just let it go.

But, just ahead of Christmas I had a few minutes to spare and thought I should check my GoDaddy account — which I no longer check that often.

I did.

I noticed I had TWO e-mails — a new one and an OLD and the $119/year was for my old. Hhmmm!

Strange.

Called support. IT WAS AN ERROR. They had NOT closed down my old.

They cancelled and that took out the AUTO RENEW.

But, I had paid $119 in 2017 & 2018 though I was NOT using the old e-mail.

It took a few e-mails and a second phone call, BUT GoDaddy, to their credit, refunded both amounts, on the FLY. They refunds were hitting PayPal while I was still on the phone.

I was impressed. I was pleased.

And I wanted to share that with you.

They did GOOD and I am happy to say so.

Happy New Year.

Get A Refund When Amazon Fails To Deliver On Its Prime Two-Day Shipping Promise.

by Anura Guruge

primeshipping

Let’s just say that I have received $37 back from Amazon, in the last 12 days, for it missing three (3) shipment dates.

I keep assiduous track of all my Amazon shipments and track the packages. IF the package is not delivered, per the promised day — typically because of a USPS screw-up — I call up Amazon at 8:15pm, on the day, and ask for a refund. And they always oblige.

So, stay on top of this. It can be a nice little added discount. {SMILE}.

If You Are Waiting For A Tax Refund From The State Of New Hampshire State Best To Call After 3 Months.

by Anura Guruge

‘They’ have up to 3 YEARS to send you a refund check.

Yes, you read that correct. 3 YEARS!

After 3 months they start paying you interest (though it can’t be much). However, due to this interest payment, to save the State money, they process refunds starting with the HIGHEST AMOUNTS owed. So if you refund is for ‘peanuts’ you could be waiting a long time.

All refunds have to be MANUALLY checked and authorized.

If your return was not electronic there will also be the delay while the forms are scanned and entered into the system.

But, the GOOD NEWS.

After waiting OVER 3 months call 603-230-5920.

At least in my case, when I called earlier today, ‘she’ could NOT have been more helpful. Absolutely delightful — from the getgo. She even called me back 20 minutes later to say that she had my refund approved and that I should get a check in 2 to 3 weeks! Wow. But, that is NH State. On the whole very helpful and alway cognizant that they are there to help us.

So, IF you are waiting for a refund, wait 96 days then call 603-230-5920. IF you are lucky you might get the same lady I did. I won’t tell you her name. That would not be fair.

New Hampshire ‘Interest and Dividends Tax’ (I&D) — Easiest Way To Calculate Is To Use e-file NH.

by Anura Guruge

nhintdivonline11

Click image to access the relevant NH State e-file option.

logo-efileI saw this morning, on this blogs ‘search strings’, that somebody wanted to know how to calculate New Hampshire ‘Interest and Dividends Tax‘ (I&D).

IF you, like I, are one of the ‘chosen’ that have to pay this tax it is rather easy to calculate. 5% of ALL interest and dividends declared on your IRS 1040 after a $4,800 exemptions for marrieds or $2,400 for singles. There are other exceptions too if you are disabled, blind etc.

But the quickest and easiest way to do is to use the FREE New Hampshire e-file option available from the N.H. State, i.e., nh.gov, Website. Go to RESIDENTS >> >> TAXES >> >> INTEREST & DIVIDENDS TAX. Click on ‘tax’ and look for the e-file logo (as shown here).

Just bang in your social, give them your e-mail, create a 4-digit PIN and Bob is your uncle. You are ready to rock and rumble. Very easy to use. Does the calculations for you and it is e-file. One-stop shopping. I have successfully used NH e-file for years. On Tuesday I breezed through with my 2015 filing in less than 3 minutes. Start to finish. Done. Getting a refund!

So go for it. Don’t even THINK of anything else. SMILE.

It is so very nice when ‘somebody’ does the right thing and even more special when it is done by a ‘faceless’ large bureaucracy — in this case the “Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission“.

Thank YOU. Thank YOU. Thank YOU.

As the Mark Twain saying goes: Do the right thing. It will gratify some people and astonish the rest.

Well, this very gracious act by the “Penna Turnpike” BOTH gratified and astonished me.

What did they do. They sent me a check for $36.85 — a REFUND for the $39.90 I was charged, on May 18, 2015, at the ‘Delaware River Bridge’ toll plaza for NOT having a ticket.

This $39.90 charge, at 1:15 pm was, miraculously, the ONLY mishap we suffered during our 3-day adventure in going by ‘car-c0ach-Amtrak-taxi-Coach-car-taxi-car‘ to Philadelphia to pick up our Jaguar XJ8 and drive it back. Given that we wondered around New York for 5 hours, walked at night in Philadelphia and drove 390 miles in a car that we didn’t know anything about, anything could have happened.

But, luckily, we only had one and only one setback. This $39.90 charge. And it happened within 30 minutes of us getting in the car. We were still getting used to the car when this toll collector insisted that I part with $39.90 BECAUSE I did not have a toll ticket. I understand. People must try to escape paying what they owe by claiming that they lost the ticket. In our case it was not about losing a ticket. We never got one. That is what upset me.

Here is the top part of the letter I wrote to them on May 25, 2015 — a week after the incident.

paletter

Well, my point was simple. There was NO machine or person handing out tickets. I am not that stupid that I would get on a Turnpike without a ticket.

Well, they did the RIGHT THING — and I am grateful. They charged me $3.05 and I have no problem, whatsoever, with that. I assume that that was the charge for the distance I covered. That is fine.

This made me very happy. It was the ONLY blemish on what turned out to be quite a magical trip. It bothered me. It bothered the girls. They knew that we had been wronged because they saw that I had NOT driven past a ticket booth.

So this is good. I am happy. The girls are happy.

Of course I am delighted. Also impressed that they confessed and decided to do the right thing. That is always good.

But, this was a LOT of hassle. I spent over 4 hours on the phone — and with me, it is always the principle of the matter, rather than the dollar amount (though that is important too). Yes, I did file a complaint with the N.C. BBB — and they will now close to out, as they should, saying matter fully resolved. But, it will be there as a warning to others.

Given that I also complained to DirecTV that I was scammed by one of THEIR authorized resellers I got some ‘non-monetary’ compensation from them too — as I should, given the aggravation. So I kind of made out, as I also did when DISH dropped NEO and TEN Cricket from their ‘Cricket Pack’. But, I am an expert and complaining.

I worry about people who get scammed by these resellers.

See the difference in price. $19.95 from DirecTV vs. $74.97 from ‘Direct Sat TV’. $55.02 difference. That is how they make their money.

So be warned. Be careful. Be very careful.

‘Direct Sat TV’, N.C., Just Called Me And Admitted Misrepresentation! I Am Supposedly Getting 100% Refund. BBB Complaint Accepted.

Got the above e-mail from the ‘Better Business Bureau’ this morning.

Then, about 20 minutes ago, I received a call from ‘Jeanine’ — who said she was from ‘Direct Sat’.

She said that she was calling about my complaints — though she was not specific about which ones; i.e., complaint I filed with BBB or the joint call I made yesterday morning with a Disputes Manager from my Bank of America credit card.

But she said this. That they had reviewed my call with them on June 12, as I had asked them to do in both complaints, and that I WAS RIGHT.

The rep had, as I was claiming, MISREPRESENTED ‘Direct Sat’ as ‘DirecTV’!

Remember that was my contention all along. I checked. They lied. I am not totally stupid. Much of the time I do know what I am doing.

She says that they will now give me a FULL refund. She has given me a phone number: 910-693-30xx.

I will not count my pigs until I see the credit on my online statement. But, this is a start.

I asked her if the rep had been fired. She said that she did not know but that the ‘case’ had been escalated to the proper management.

This is still SICK.
