Non-Whites, Like I, Would Not Be As Skeptical & Cynical IF Vaccination Registration Did NOT Start By Asking For Ethnicity & Race.

by Anura Guruge

Here is the link to the above article … click here.

Well, I have been through the COVID vaccination registration process three times — one online (with VAMS) & twice on the phone after calling 2-1-1. Each time, one the first questions I get asked is ‘ethnicity’ followed by ‘race’. In one of the 2-1-1 calls the person at the other end even JOKED saying: “I assume it is not going to be Caucasian or Hispanic“! Not good.

It would help IF they made the RESERVATION without asking about race.

Why do they need to know that to make a reservation — UNLESS, of course, you want to start suspecting the WORST. And that is what has happened.

IF they need that data for demographics they can collect it when we are there to get the SHOT. Think about it.

Admit that this makes sense.

The Jaguar Comes Out Of Hibernation.

I am pretty sure that this is the latest it has hibernated. I am sure that I usually drive it in March — April, provided that there is no snow on the ground.

Well, this year was different. I was cooler for a start & we had the stay at home. There was nowhere to go in it.

I had it on a Schumacher trickle-charger while it hibernated. I have 3 of these chargers. One for each of my British cars. It works great. Started first time. No hesitation. Bang. That made me happy.

The pictures, quite nicely, hide all the dust on the car. Will put it through a car wash soon.

Well, Summer must be here. Now to get the other Jag out of hibernation.

It is ready to be sprung free. Had the battery on a good trickle-charger.

My 1989 V12 XJS in Fall 2019 BEFORE it too was mothballed it for the Winter.

Also on a good trickle-charger, but this one needs to be registered. SMILE.

Wow, I haven’t bought a Jag in 5-years! Wow. I am impressed with myself.

I would NOT get rid of the XJ8 unless it was totally & utterly kaput. It is a lovely car — aesthetically and it hasn’t given me too much grief on the mechanical side. But, that can change. Yikes. My plan is to nurse it along as long as I can.

I haven’t looked for Jags online for years — ok, maybe for ‘months’. Just had a quick look. There are Jags out there for I. So, I am OK.

SMILE.

September 30 and the 2019 registration came to an end — as did the registration on 4 other cars. The joys of owning 6 cars. I have never owned an unregistered/uninsured car! Asked my friend at the Town Hall who does the resignations as to what the deal is. The price remains the same, but you can register whenever — the only thing is that you have to get it inspected the same day you get it registered.

Though it 30-years old it is not cheap to register since it was $44,000+ car when new.

I typically don’t drive it after September. Why? Because I only enjoy driving it topless and I, in my old age, like to freeze my bones. So, didn’t see the point of paying to have it registered if I am not going to be driving it till April/May. So, that is what I did. IT IS INSURED. I am not stupid!

Took it for a good run. I keep the battery trickled charge non-stop. So, it started first time. It is a TRUE Jag. It likes to stretch it legs. That V12 is something else.

Well, it is now hibernating.

This, in reality, is NOT my car. It is Teischan’s. She just lets me use it, register it, insure it and pay for its upkeep. She will get it when she can drive!

Well, the Summer is over.

WordPress.com Changes Domain Name Buying Option — Now You Have To Purchase A Hosting Plan.

Up until recently you could buy a domain name from ‘wordpress.com’ for $18/year and use it with your FREE ‘wordpress.com’ Website/blog. And I have done that very successfully and to my satisfaction.

I found out on Wednesday of this week that ‘wordpress.com’ NO LONGER offers this option (unless you are a long-term established account holder). Now you have to buy a plan, $36/year minimum, and that includes a ‘FREE’ domain name.

IF you run into this as a ‘problem’ contact ‘wordpress.com’ they do try to help out.

Hope this helps.

Our 1968 ‘BRG’ MGB Sporting Its New 1968 NH Scenic Number Plate.

by Anura Guruge

Taken by Deanna on her ASUS phone. I am currently camera-less

A cute, ‘value-added’ feature of New Hampshire’s car licensing — when it comes to “Antique Plates“. IF your car is qualified to have “Antique Plates”, and you indeed do have them, THEN IF you can find a NH number plate corresponding to the year of your car you can put that plate (or plates) on your car in place of the “Antique Plates”. We were told this, in detail, last September, when we got around to registering our 1968 ‘British Racing Green’ (BRG) MGB as an antique — which it is.

In October 2015 I bought the above plate, from eBay, for Devanee’s birthday. That they were a matching green and had ‘3’, ‘6’ & ‘9’ was a bonus — those being some of my favorite numbers.

It took us till TODAY to finally get it mounted on the MGB. Part of the delay was that you have to go to DMV in Concord, NH with the new plate, an old plate and your registration and have the ‘year plate’ (e.g., 1968 plate) registered.

I couldn’t find TWO 1968 plates. I should look again. Of course, I am in the market. IF you have have two 1968 NH plates PLEASE contact me.

It is cool. Took the MGB out for a fairly long spin. Did good. We like it.

As soon as they started talking about this FAA drone registration program, in anger, in the media, last week I noticed that there was NEVER any mention of model, make and serial number. That seemed incongruous. So today I went checking. You can see what I found — on the first image above.

The FAA does not ask for Make, Model or Serial Number.

That is very strange. I have never encountered a product registration that did not want the product specifically identified.

So this is basically a program to TRACK drone OWNERS.

Also puzzled that they do NOT mention Permanent Residents (i.e., Green Card Holders). Permanent Residents can LEGALLY own (and register) firearms in the U.S. So it would be strange if a Permanent Resident can register a semi-automatic weapon BUT NOT a drone! Aaah!

I, always wanting to be on the safe and legal side, checked the weight of our UDI U818As (and yes, we have two). 4.2 ounces + 2.1 ounces for the battery = 6.3 ounces (178.6 gram). So we are well under the 0.55 (8.8 ounce, 250 gram) weight limit.

fast-n-loud-52Yes, I know it is a ‘Reality Show’ and as such that all that we see is NOT real. That said the BIG deal that Richard Rawling makes about ALL of his cash dealings, most of them in excess of $10K, makes me wonder … In the U.S. there are strict rules and regulations about individual transactions exceeding $10K. In some cases there are IRS forms, Form 8300, that need to be filled and submitted. It is possible that Richard does all of that or that all of the purported ‘cash’ deals are just for the camera. Yes, it is a ‘Reality Show’ but they do portray an alarming disregard for the LAW. Last night we saw an episode where Aaron just jumps into a car they bought — cash — and starts driving it back. No registration? No plates? Not right.

As a diligent taxpayer, I really would feel so much better if the IRS checked ‘Gas Monkey‘ to make sure that all those cash transactions have been properly reported. At a minimum lets make sure that ALL the cash transactions shown on TV were reported. That seems fair.

As I have bitched before I take umbrage to the way they play ‘fast N’ loose’ with financial matters on this ‘Reality Show’. The so called ‘profits‘ that they show at the end of each show are beyond misleading. They do not take into account salaries, equipment, rents, taxes or overhead! That is wrong.

But it would be worse still IF they didn’t play right by the IRS — not to mention the State of Texas. So I hope that somebody will take notice and check.

SMILE.
