Nice, easy to follow guide. Just note that the times are LOCAL. So, 5-6 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern.

Remember ‘D-Day 75‘ is June 6, 2019, not June 5. Huge day. You have to pause and give it some thought. Remember. Reflect. Rejoice!

This are at least 16 (yes, sixteen) D-Day specific posts on this blog, not counting all those on ‘Churchill‘ and the ‘RAF‘. So, please check them out. They all contain painstakingly researched images or videos. You will be amply rewarded.

I am a great admirer of D-Day.

I always pause to reflect on this day, June 6, 1944 — 9-years ahead of my birth.

D-Day, of course, changed the course of history — of course, for the better.

Yes, this being the 75th anniversary we will, quite rightly, see lots of gusto, pomp and ceremony. I wish we would celebrate it with similar vigor each and every year.

I was in London for the 50th anniversary. That was quite an occasion.

If NOT for the Allied heroics of this day we will NOT be speaking English.

Amazing that we don’t commemorate this day with more gusto, pomp and ceremony.

“Battle Of The Somme” #WeAreHere Tributes Across The U.K. By Uniformed Reenactment Volunteers.

by Anura Guruge

Bloodiest known battle
in all of human history.

794,238 Allied troops from the
U.K., Australia, Bermuda, Canada, India, Newfoundland,
New Zealand, South Africa, Southern Rhodesia & France
lost their life in this battle
that lasted from July 1 to November 18, 1916.

[The U.S. did NOT participate in WW I until April 6, 1917.]

This #WeAreHere reenactment by 1,500 uniformed volunteers
was to remind people of all those that were lost.
It appears that each volunteer carried business cards
showing the name one that died in the battle.

Very neat. Very British. Very touching.
Very sobering.

This, to be fair, makes sense.

Our Poppy Day/Remembrance Day is to honor and remember the war dead — though by extension we use it also to honor and commemorate all past wars. The U.S. makes a distinction between its two holidays: Memorial Day (in May) & Veterans Day, 11/11. That is made clear in the first Q&A.

My problem. Enough Americans don’t wear Red Poppies either for Memorial Day or Veterans Day.

One of the key annual events extensively covered
by this blog is “Poppy Day” — “Remembrance Day“.

Having acquired the habit when I lived in the U.K.
I wear a Red Poppy with PRIDE every year
and do all I can to stress the significance & importance of this
REMEMBRANCE DAY.

So please join me.
Time to remember and reflect.
The least WE can do for all those that got us where we are today.

Poppy Day 2015.
