Iowa Caucus Results — Disingenuousness By The Democratic Candidates.

by Anura Guruge

Each and every campaign that was involved in the Iowa caucus yesterday KNOWS what the results are. They are just playing cute and not letting on.

How did they know?

Because they had multiple campaign workers at each and every precinct — with a Campaign ‘Captain’ at each precinct to direct the operations.

Come 10pm (or whatever), last night, each Campaign Captain knew the results and counts for their precinct.

Yes, there are over 1,600 precincts in Iowa. But, that is just arithmetic.

Each Campaign Captain would have called in his/her numbers, for their precinct, to the campaign HQ. Then, it is just a case of adding them all up. Each campaign would have the numbers for the entire precinct. So, they each would have the total number.

So, if nothing else each campaign already knows all the numbers. But they choose not to divulge. Just politics. Just crazy.

Garmin Q2 2019 Results Exceeds Expectations; Fitbit Disappoints & Shares Tank.

by Anura Guruge

Two very different sets of stories from the two companies. Garmin is SOARING, Fitbit is tanking — the Versa Lite sales not living up to expectations (probably not surprisingly).

Garmin’s Fitness sector is doing well (thanks to all the new models of late), while Fitbit’s smartwatch sales are down 27%.

Good for Garmin. They just need to stay focused and RAMP UP their customer support.

As a BIG Garmin customer, shareholder and booster I am happy. SMILE.

Though A Shareholder I Was Very Glad To See Amazon Shares Plunge $24 (3%) Today!

Amazon’s 3% drop wasn’t that bad relative to the markets. I EXPECTED the markets to be down on Friday — ahead of the 9/11 anniversary. Wall Street does not forget. Too close to home. Click to ENLARGE.

5-day and 3 month charts for Amazon (from “marketwatch.com”, of course).

amzn444

6-month chart highlighting the stupidity of those that panicked and sold. I told YOU it was a mistake. I didn’t buy AMZN that day BUT I did buy some other FANG ‘like’ stocks such as CRM.

Ten years ago I would have been distraught. Panicking. Worried that I was going to lose ‘everything’.

‘Today’ (i.e., Friday) I paid the plunge scant attention!

We needed a pullback.

AMZN had gone up too much at the start of the week. See 5-day chart. That was just irrational exuberance following the Labor Day holiday. There was no real concrete news or results to warrant the $15 rise on Tuesday. That AMZN was going to sell cars was NOT new. I had given you the heads up.

This pullback puts the price in the RIGHT RANGE for now. Over the last 18 months I have got to know this puppy quite well. I have to. I have no choice. My life, quite literally, depends on it. {SMILE}

So just a word of assurance to those who may be upset this weekend that their AMZN tanked. It will hit $800 in the next month — ahead of the results. {SMILE}

After the results it could see $900 before year end.

So relax. I told you NOT to panic during BREXIT. I was right. All the pundits were wrong. {SMILE} Getting old has SOME advantages.

Amazon 2Q2016 Results, July 28, Just Goldilocks — I Can’t Stop Smiling. Thank YOU, Amazon.

by Anura Guruge

From “marketwatch.com”. Click to ENLARGE and ADMIRE here.

Not only do I own a fair chunk of Amazon shares, BUT I play options on them on a 4- to 6-week basis to generate INCOME to live on. Yes, it is true that my Amazon holdings are GREATER than the value of our (rather modest and unprepossessing) house and everything else I own! That is one heck of a commitment and bet on Amazon. I can’t tell you WHEN I bought the shares BUT I have now owned them for over 18 months.

And I write options every few weeks. IF the share price went up $120 today I would have had to scramble a BIT — though that would be nothing compared to what I would have made on the stock. This is Goldilocks for I. Stock price nicely UP and my August 19 options will EXPIRE ‘nicely’ …

I guess based on this I really should treat myself to a Nikon D500 and a good lens — and, of course, buy it from Amazon Prime (with a 5% rewards payback).

I wish I could teach you how to play AMZN options.

Nikon Results For Financial Year Ending March 2016 Looks Bad, Especially Downward Trend In Cameras.

by Anura Guruge

Just looking at the camera sales — in the 2nd chart — is sobering. They sold 570,000 LESS DSLR type cameras from the previous year. That is 1/2 million+.

Even worse when it came to compact (i.e., Coolpix type) cameras — 1,460,000 less. Close to a drop of 1.5 million units. If you add the two together you are looking at a drop of 2 million units.

Yes, we all know one major reason, particularly so come the compacts. SMART phones, in particular expensive ones such as iPhones and Samsungs. They have pretty fancy camera capabilities. So why buy a compact when you can put that money towards buying a better camera?

Plus Nikon is facing increasing competition, especially with mirrorless cameras, from the likes of Sony, Panasonic, Olympus and Fuji.

This is not good news for Nikon or to us customers. If this trend continues Nikon will have to reign in product development and introduction. Might explain, already, why the exciting new 1″ DL cameras are very late.

Kinsey Sexulaity Scale Test Says I Am “Straight As An Arrow”.

I wasn’t actually sure what I was being tested for. This score, however, probably is no surprise to many, if any. One of my cousins (who is not straight) once described me as: “your problem is that you are so overtly hetrosexual”. Yup, and I don’t deny that. Well all I can say is that the test must be pretty good.

I wrote about Kinsey quite a bit in my Orgasm book. Check it out.

Amazon Stock Price, Despite 2015 Q4 Results ‘Miss’, Unchanged Over 48 Hours!

by Anura Guruge

amazonjan29chartdsafs

AMZN chart from “marketwatch.com” on Friday, January 29, 2016 — 1:35pm. Note that current price is HIGHER than it was at 2pm on Wednesday, i.e., 48 hours ago! All of yesterday’s wild swings was ‘just in the wash’.

I said it last night. These wild, knee-jerk selling/buying of Amazon shares, is hilarious (and profitable) to watch IF you are a disciplined investor.

After-market and pre-market before Friday opening the stock was down over $85. But once the markets opened it settled at around down ~$50. BUT it had made roughly $45 on Thursday ahead of the results. As the chart above demonstrates AMZN is actually trading HIGHER than it was at 2pm on Wednesday — i.e., just 48 hours ago! So all of the last 24 hours, to long-term professional traders like I, was nothing but ‘froth’ — comes out ‘in the wash’. As I said last night it is great for option trading and I did, as is my incurable addiction, wrote two options on AMZN today. Could not resist.

Just trying to bring some sanity to bear, BUT it is OK. Somebody has to drive the stock. Enjoy.

Amazon 2015 Q4 Results Were OK, After Market Trading Hilarious — Analysts Estimates Are SO Bogus.

Amazon in 2015 Q4 had hugely impressive revenue numbers, 22% up, and made a profit of $1/share.

That is pretty damn good.

So what is the supposed problem? These numbers missed the so called ‘analysts estimates’. So bloody what? Analysts estimates are bogus. Made up. Pie-in-the-bloody-sky. They mean nothing. I have never paid any attention to analysts estimates — because the word says it all, ‘ESTIMATES’.

The after market trading was hilarious. Yes, as I have said before I own a fair number of Amazon shares. Amazon is my biggest financial holding. Even after it lost $85 (on paper) in after market I still have an investment in AMZN which is greater than the value of our house (which, of course, is a very modest dwelling). But the after market trading did not faze me in the slightest. It actually just amused me no end. Yes, I am an addicted option trader. This type of irrational volatility is a sheer boon for option traders. I feel BAd for the amateurs. They are the ones that suffer in crazy scenarios like this. Tomorrow morning so many will sell on fear. The professionals, including I, will trade that fear. I might even buy more shares.

People have to stop listening to analysts. What do they know? What did they get right over the last 40 years.

Do your own research. Play your own convictions.
