I happened to see Richard Leonard, the Alton pharmacist at Alton Hannaford, a few days ago. I asked him when his weekend was and he said this coming week — i.e., now!

We went to Richard’s delightful ‘Miller Farm‘, in New Durham, NH, last year for the weekend and had a blast.

Not sure we can make it this year. It is the Durham/Dover N.H. ‘Snow White‘ weekend for us. But, I want to make sure that you get a heads up. Plus I promised Richard that I will do a post.

Call Rich at 603-767-2652

It is a picturesque farm and Rich is as nice as they come. The horses are friendly too and smile broadly. Definitely worth a trip. Highly recommended by us.

NH Maple Weekend: Richard Leonard’s Delightful ‘Miller Farm’ In New Durham, New Hampshire.

Richard (Rich) Leonard is our pharmacist in Alton (Hannaford’s) and our friend. He is a great guy. Our only regret in the November 2012 election was that Richard did not win his bid win NH Senate District 6 seat.

Richard told us about the ‘NH Maple Weekend‘ and encouraged us to visit.  We had never been to his delightful, picturesque farm. But, we did on Saturday, March 23, 2013 — and we are so glad we did. It was special. There were a lot of people. The bumper stickers on many of the cars made my day. That reminds me. I haven’t seen many Mitt stickers on cars of late. Richard, as ever, was very gracious and hospitable. Great bunch of people in the sugar house. It was like a party. My only regret was that I am ‘off carbs’. So I stayed away from the syrup. Haven’t had a pancake (or for that matter, any bread, rice, pasta, bagel, muffin, banana nor apple) in 2 months. But, I have lost about 13 pounds. Losing 6 ounces a day according to my ‘new’ Ozeri Gen II digital bathroom scales. Doesn’t sound like much, but that is a pound off every 3 days. So at this rate I could, with luck, IF I stick to this, lose the other 7 pounds in 3 weeks.

I am hoping that Richard will run again. I would ideally like to see him in D.C. but I can see why he would be reluctant to leave his wonderful farm in New Durham.

Here are some pictures.

I have known Lisa for at least 12 years, starting when she was this amazing Children’s Librarian at the always wonderful Gilford Library. First my son Matthew and then Devanee were huge fans of the library and I know that part of it was that Lisa ran the magical Children’s room. There was a time when Devanee, when she was 3 or 4, was going to the Library at least once a week. We all got to know Lisa and her family very well over the years.

She is a wonderful, caring, warm, helpful, knowledgeable, always ‘on-the-ball’ person. True, salt-of-the-earth. She is an exceptional mother, accentuated by having a special needs son.

Lisa will be a dream State Rep. for all of us with families, especially school age kids. She is an expert on health care and education issues in NH, with unique hands on experience as to the challenges faced by parents with ‘special needs’. Lisa will proudly stand up for us, Romney’s 47%. Gilford and Meredith are rich communities but there are still a lot of people in these towns that are not ‘rich’. Lots of folks without health care. Many worried about whether their kids are getting a decent education. If Lisa is in Concord, I know that she will fight for what is right for the majority. Lisa is above petty, politics. She will always try to do what is right for the average person, the typical constituent.

It would be so good for NH if we can have Lisa in Concord looking after our interests. So, PLEASE, if you live in Gilford or Meredith, vote for Lisa and make sure that you convince others in those towns to do the same. Thank YOU.

Rich Leonard has been OUR pharmacist in Alton (Hannaford’s) for the last 4 or 5 years. He has been exceptional professional, and an exemplary human being. We hold Rich in high esteem. He will make an OUTSTANDING NH Senator, even a great U.S. Senator.

Rich is always helpful, always caring, always professional, always polite. But, I can share a secret with you. He has a great sense of humor too. There have been times when Deanna’s back was really bad when I seemed to be going to the Hannaford pharmacy everyday, sometimes multiple times a day. Occasionally, especially if it was a Sunday afternoon, Rich might be the only one there. He would be at his counter, as ever very serious, doing what pharmacist do. But, if you cracked a joke or ‘teased’ him about sulking for being left on his own a big grin would spread across his face and he would respond.

He is all that you would expect from a well rounded, well grounded, educated, responsible, professional man. I could not think of anybody better to be a NH Senator. As it happens our next door neighbor (yes, the one who is into gross light pollution) actually made a bid for this seat, then changed his mind when he saw his competition from his own part and ran, again, for the NH house and came second in a two person race. No comparison. Rich will be so much better.

If you think about it a pharmacist is uniquely qualified to be a representative of the people. There is no HIPAA privacy niceties in a pharmacy line. So, given the hours I have spent in and around pharmacies I have heard some harrowing tales of hardship. Just think what Rich must have to deal with if all of us have heard our share of stories at the pharmacy line. Yes, we have first hand experience. Deanna is on workman’s comp. from a company whose name starts with an ‘L’ and ends in ‘Mutual’. They are horrible. Downright mean. Their modus operandi is to first, outright, reject everything and then, grudgingly, agree to approve just the low cost items, but even that randomly. Rich has dealt with all of this for us. He has handled the constant ‘pre-approval required’, ‘denied’, ‘waiting doctor’s notes’ and all the other excuses. We always know that we can RELY on Rich to get the BEST deal for us. Thank YOU, Rich.

Healthcare is not something that Rich knows about secondhand. Rich deals with the issues of today’s healthcare every day. He knows the woes that the middle class and Romney’s 47% have to deal with. Rich, despite his name, will represent the ‘47%’, not just the rich.

Please consider Rich Leonard. We do not endorse political candidates lightly. Thinking about it this is our first. Thank YOU for running Rich. We wish YOU all the very best. I hope that come November 7 I will have the honor of addressing you as Senator Leonard when I come to pick up a prescription.
