Her 2nd visit to ‘Fort Williams’. Her 1st visit was on Teischan’s 15th birthday, in March. It is close to a 2-hour drive but I custom fitted the cargo area of our new Volvo VC60 for her comfort & safety. Worked out. Did NOT hear a word from her in complain. She did bark a few times at people & dogs she spotted through the back window. So, it worked out.
We got the Volvo VC60 for her! I was going to get a ‘Genesis G70’ when Teischan (15), Rowen’s official owner, notified me that she needed me to get a Rowen-carrier & if I did not my chances of her (meaning Teischan) travelling with me would be greatly diminished. It was she who ended up picking the VC60 after I had settled on a ‘Volvo V60’ wagon. Now, she is saying we might need to upgrade to a VC90!
Anywho, I had got a bunch of stuff, from Amazon, to customize the cargo area for Rowen. These included a metal grill to keep her from trying to climb over the back seat plus TWO (2) padded, full-length cargo area covers. So there are two layers of padding for her in the back.
We, i.e., all three of us (viz. Rowen, her owner & I), are going on another day trip to Maine. Rowen’s 2nd trip to Maine. Same place as the last time — which was on March 22, 2021 (i.e., Teischan’s birthday). ‘Fort Williams’, by Portland. It is Teischan’s favorite ‘local’ spot (i.e., within 90-minutes) of home. I am very partial to the place too. So, it works out. Will be a good test for all of us.
The famous lighthouse, Maine’s oldest, at Fort Williams.
Water does not scare her, BUT she is still curious.
Will NOT drink from streams or lakes! Will sniff it … will pee in it, BUT will not drink. Only drinks from bowls or from a hose. That will sure change.
125-days old. That is 4-months & 5-days. Getting big. We have had her just over 9-weeks. She has changed our lives! Great dog. Lot of fun.
Forget what folks tell you about Newfies. She has become a GREAT walking dog. She, furthermore, enjoys her walks now that she has got it figured. Walks 4-miles with me every morning. She is FINE. She is getting STRONG.
So, why don’t I post more pictures of her. It is very difficult for I to get pictures of her! She is always so close to me. If I stop she is all over me. Standing up. Same at home. So, I have to rely on others.
It was cute. Temperatures here have only gone above freezing (& even then just during sunlight hours) in the last couple of days. So, everything has been frozen solids — & the lakes are still frozen. This stream, across a little-used hiking trail that I often frequent, just broke free from the grips of what was a hard & harsh winter. You can still see the ice in protected ‘coves’. Well, it was all knew to Rowen, who was born in Iowa, on November 30, 2020. He is indeed a snow puppy.
She walked into the water without any fuss. She is familiar with water. She has had enough baths & loves playing in her water bowl. BUT she would NOT drink the water — though she, as is common with that breed, is always thirsty. She didn’t even sniff it. But, I am sure she will work it out in no time. Braxton, as is his wont, was lapping away. She paid no heed.
She is a handful, BUT cute & loving beyond words. Absolute joy though she drives all of us to distraction & beyond. Still ‘little’. Soon she will be BIGGER, much bigger. We are trying not to think what she will then get up to. Hopefully she will also start to mellow & not be as mischievous & curious. At the same time, as with kids, I hate to have them grow up. So much fun when they are young & the world is all new. Enjoy.
We picked her up, in West Point, Iowa, exactly a month ago. We drove 2,700-miles just to get her.
She is 89-days old, today. 1-day she of being 3-months.
She is a handful, BUT what a joy. A lot of fun. Plays with everything & anything. LOVES snow shovels. She attacks them while we try to shovel. Good job that we love her. We stand there till she is done. Takes 3-times as long to shovel. But, for obvious reasons, does not like my monster snow blower.
