Anura Guruge safety glass

Here is me requesting ‘Chapter & Verse’ on safety glass at Alton Central School (ACS). Check the video from the 1:23:00 mark. Thanks.

As I have already stated I was beyond gob-smacked when we saw the glass in the Middle School Library door shatter and go everywhere.

IF a child had been in the way of that glass I would hate to think what could have happened.

Here is me standing up, as an ACS parent and Alton taxpayer, asking the Board to find out where ACS stands on safety glass.

Yes, the next day, I made quite a number of calls to every single local and state agency I could think of.

Existing, i.e., grandfathered, LACK of safety glass seems to have fallen between the cracks.

Of course the School can — and obviously should — replace all OLD glass with SAFETY GLASS — if they care about safety.

So, here you have it. Yes, again, one of the Alton Guruges on record, on tape, asking the School Board for action.

I asked for this report for the NEXT School Board meeting. That is TODAY.

Lets see what they do.

But, at least we know that we have done what little we can.

It is all here around the 7:30 minute onward mark on this ACS YouTube video of the Oct. 28, 2013, "Breaking Glass" School Board Meeting. That they hijacked the audio is very convenient to the Board. Click to access the video on YouTube -- with barely any audio.

Well it is all on tape — albeit with hardly any sound!
This is why the Board MUST subtitle this video IF they are serious about Public involvement.

Yes, that is Deanna up at the podium.

She is recounting a story that was told to her at the Alton Library, by somebody that was at ACS in 2012.

According to that person, in 2012, prior to that year’s vote on the ACS Building Renovation Bond
ACS school ‘staff’ intentionally let the floors flood, for ‘an hour’, from a burst central heating pipe
WITHOUT letting the maintenance folks turn off the water!

We do NOT know if this story is true.

So Deanna is up here trying to tell it — with the usual bullying interruptions from the Board.

She asks that this incident be investigated.

Just think about it.

If true ….

IRONY abounded at that meeting.

When the GLASS BROKE there was talk of ‘Damage to School Property‘.

What about flooding?

I am leaving it at that.

Watch the tape IF you can.

This is serious stuff.

Lets see if the Board takes any action as requested by Deanna.

I, personally, doubt it.

We are doing the only thing we can.

Documenting all of this so that there is a record.

Just in the last month, in addition to this ‘flooding’ allegation,
one or both of us have been approached by Alton residents
who have told us of ACS related incidents
involving: sour milk, door locks, architect fees
and a School Board member getting TEXT instructions
on how to vote!

BUT, the YouTube video starkly confirms the BIG problem
we have in Alton when it comes to ACS.

This pivotal School Board Meeting video has had,
to noon, Monday, Nov. 25, 2013,
41 views!

NOBODY CARES and the BOARD exploits that.

This blog, just yesterday, a Sunday (which is ‘down’ day) had
928 hits.

There were easily more than 41 hits on my ACS posts …
NOT counting the 98 hits on the ‘homepage’ of the blog.

My Comet ISON video on YouTube has had 811 views.

41 views of this School Board video.

Therein lies the problem.

Alleged Composition Of The Alton Central School (ACS) Strategic Planning Committee — Which Is Costing Alton Taxpayers $$$s.

This is from Deanna — who is not happy that she appears to be the ONLY unaffiliated, i.e., NOT on the ACS payroll, parent on this Committee.

She attended BOTH, 8 am to 3 pm meetings, Oct. 31 & Nov. 1, 2013 — and is sure that she was the only unaffiliated parent.

Before she attended the meetings she requested a list of the attendees from the SAU. She got a ‘roster’ with 25 names — one already marked as ‘unable to attend’.

Last week she e-mailed the SAU and asked for the list of those that actually attended the two meetings. She HAS an e-mail that claims, rightly or wrongly, that ‘no attendance’ was recorded; i.e., there was no sign-up list! She is seeking confirmation of this statement.

This Strategic Planning effort is costing Alton Taxpayers real money. The external ‘consultant’ alone is costing at least $3,000 (if not more if other expenses are being paid).

They HIRED a bunch of substitutes to cover ALL the teachers that were attending the meetings! Devanee, not the most reliable of sources for ACS news, claimed that she heard that there were 19 substitutes at ACS on Oct. 31 — which would be appropriate given that it was Halloween. Scary stuff.

So, this is the breakdown per the pre-meeting ‘Roster’. Only one board member attended. According to Deanna the Administration staff were in-and-out.

CommonCorepresentation

This was the ‘Common Core’ presentation that I had requested.

Definitely worth watching. Listen to what she has to say with an open mind.

Alton Central School (ACS), at least for 2013 – 2014, is committed to ‘Common Core‘.

Alton Central Administration Might Not Have 100% Support From Their School Board On Their Commitment For ‘Common Core Standards’.

I find it funny (given my admittedly very twisted sense of humor) that most folks in Alton, including the parents, think that the building renovation is the ‘be all and end all‘ of the issues facing the welfare of the Alton kids. Somehow bullying or the ‘Common Core Standards‘ don’t seem to figure in the priorities.

Last night, at the School Board meeting, given that I had requested it at the previous meeting, the Principal did get up and do a brief but poignant presentation on ‘Common Core Standards’.

I was intrigued, but not surprised, when one female school board member (and Carlos Martinez was NOT at the meeting), openly talked about ACS OPTING OUT of CC. Wow.

So, I, when I was finally given permission to ask questions, got up and asked a few questions MAINLY to get as much of the opinions and statements on the official record for possible future use.

As I suspected a prior Board did approve the school’s current ‘program’ with CC. I knew that that had to have happened.

I also questioned whether this board was 100% behind CC and got the response I expected — that yes, some have reservations.

School Board member, Mr. Steve Miller, yet again to his credit, per my statement that I wanted this on the record, went onto say that he is supportive of CC and does not feel that ACS is in the ‘position’ to ‘go in alone’. Check the record.

Interesting stuff.

Yes, I would LOVE to have included Mrs. Leggett’s presentation, but it is not as yet available online (at least to me). Deanna e-mailed her requesting a copy. Yes, of course, I will post it or a link to it as soon as we hear something back.

Enjoy.
