Perfect Background Music — A Bhajan At That — For Indexing A 500-Page Book.

by Anura Guruge

The YouTube video.

Click to ENLARGE. My Adobe PDF-based, unique indexing method.

When I am writing I need absolute silence. I have to focus. So, no music or other distractions, whatsoever, even in the background. Has to be quiet. Still.

Not so after I have finished writing. Often when I am completing the production of a book (and I am on my 31st, I think) I like some soothing music — to keep me going.

This is very true when I am indexing a book. I still index my books by hand. The so called automated methods are too cumbersome and unreliable. 40-years ago I, while working for IBM, I wrote an indexing program for computer program listings. If I was as good at programming as I then was, I could try and write one. But, for now I index using my own unique method.

I use the Adobe PDF search function. I already have the book as a PDF. So, there is no extra step here.

I use Adobe Search on each word I am going to index and just transcribe the page numbers kindly & conveniently provided for I by Adobe. See image above. So, per that example, I know that the word ‘Domus’ appears on page 4 of the book. Now it is just a case of banging that page number, viz., 4, into the index entry. Very mechanical, but tedious and time-consuming.

So, I like to have some soothing music to keep me going. What music I choose depends on the circumstances. Thirty years ago I have used Garth Brooks. Oliver Mtukudzi has served me well for more than one book. I have also known to rely on ‘Chant‘ music. An Indian version of ‘chant’ is ‘bhajan’ — a type of devotional music. It can be hypnotic an very relaxing. So, today I went looking in YouTube for Bhajans. Found this one, serendipitously. It is long, and it worked well.

I wanted to share it with you. Enjoy.

Google Gives Me Top Billing On “Nikki Haley Necklace” Searches –> 1,000+ Hits TODAY.

by Anura Guruge

Google SEARCH results. #1 spot!

Google image search. 4 entries in the 1st row.

Today’s “Nikki Haley necklace” related hits.

The very first time I saw Nikki Haley, on TV, with ‘that’ necklace I knew that people were going to be curious about it. So, I did a post about it on April 9, 2017.

That was just over a year ago. I have, to-date, had over 7,400 hits on that post — over 900 just today!

So, I was right in my contention that people would be curious and interested.

Given the interest, I have done a series of posts on this necklace. They have all attracted attention.

My hits go up whenever she is on TV — as she was today. Hence, the spike in hits.

Until today I had not bothered to check where I stood when you did a Google search on the subject. Wow. I was amazed, flattered and humbled. Thank YOU, Google. They do me proud.

‘Lion’ (2016) Movie, About Lost Indian Boy, Now Available For Rent, $5.99, On Amazon Video.

Click to ENLARGE for proof that we did rent it on Amazon video.

Just giving you a heads up because the RENTAL OPTION for ‘Lion’ seems a bit elusive on Amazon Prime at least for now.

We found the rental option via Roku search rather than on Amazon Prime Video.

Glad we did. We did want to watch it.

Great movie BUT I do have some comments that I will write about in a separate post.

Given that Amazon rentals are only valid for 48-hours (once you start watching) we had to end up renting it TWICE — since it took us 2.5 evenings to finish watching it. No big deal. Still cheaper than going to a cinema to see it.

Definitely worth watching. Very moving.

Malaysian Airlines MH370: 28 Months In They Think They Have The Search Area Wrong!

by Anura Guruge

Absolute bloody genius.

After 28 months, i.e., 2 years and 4 months, it suddenly dawns on them that they may have got it wrong!

Ah!

I have been telling ‘them’ for that long, i.e., 28 months, that they are looking in the wrong place.

Amazing. Malaysia, China & Australia. Remember Tony Abbott (shown here on right)? Claiming they were ‘so close’. Wreckage will be found soon!

Wow.

The Black Boxes from Air France Flight 447, which crashed into the Atlantic, in June 2009, were recovered JUST ahead of the 2 year anniversary of the crash. AF 447 was thus used as a precedent, a benchmark. Well the 2 years is UP.

Just search “Google News” for “MH 370”.
No point me trying to just show you snippets.
This is beyond the pale. Somebody, somewhere knows MORE than they are letting on.

Google’s “This Site May Be Hacked” Warning Too ‘Pessimistic’!

by Anura Guruge

googlehacked

Click to access Google’s HELP page on dealing with this — from BOTH sides.

Getting an e-mail from Google (if you happened to be registered with them via ‘Google Webmaster Tools‘) that one of your sites may be hacked is akin to getting a very hard kick to your ‘goolies’

Well I got that kick in the goolies in mid-December. Google insisted that my semi-retired ‘Popes-and-Papacy‘ Website had been hacked! Wow.

They cited two pages with pornographic page names (i.e., URL addresses) — the names even more graphic than I, with my liberal views on such matters, would consider. But I could NOT find these supposed newly inserted pages! They were NOT there and from what I could see were NEVER there.

Basically it was (and I am trying to be nice) a ‘False Positive‘. Google claiming the site was hacked when it never was.

I checked and checked and checked again. Those two pages did NOT exist. Site had NOT been hacked. Site was clean. Site was good.

So I appealed using the prescribed procedures. A few days later Google confirmed that they too could not find the supposed hacked content — BECAUSE it was never there. It took about 3 weeks but eventually the ‘hacked’ warning was taken off against ‘Popes-and-Papacy’. That was a relief. Luckily I don’t do much on that Website these days. But this could have been devastating IF it had been on one of my active Websites or blogs.

So a heads up. IF you get this kick in the goolies IT may not be as bad as Google made it out to be.

myfeedrokudsfsfYes, there was a new software update for the Roku 3 on April 6, 2015 — the day they announced Search, Voice Search and “My Feed” on the Roku 2 and Roku 3. That update was Version 6.2 Build 3332.

Though released on the same day as the announcement THIS update does NOT have voice search and “My Feed” for existing Rokus. The text Search, however, is there and works. Works well, though I still can’t get used to not having a ‘search’ within the “Streaming Channel” store. Yes, the search searches the ‘channel’ store BUT you have to exit the store to get to search. Not right. Very strange.

Voice search and “My Feed” right now are only available on Roku 2s and Roku 3 that shipped as of April 6, 2015. Got that?

The post April 6 models are: Roku 2 (4210R) and Roku 3 (4230R). [I have a Roku 4200X].

Another update is scheduled to enable these two features of existing Rokus.

Got this from the horse’s mouth no less. Hope it helps.

So be careful when reading some of the online posts talking about these new features. Existing customers don’t have them as yet.

This gets me worried about the Roku 4. Seems strange to refresh the Roku 2 & 3 if a Roku 4 is in the wings. My druthers is that it might have got pushed back into late Summer or early Fall.

My post March 15, 2014, over a year ago — now known to be the FIRST mention of Maldives in the context of MH370. Click to access post.

middleofnowheremaldives

Location of the subject island in the Maldives. We really are talking the middle of nowhere. Interestingly it is not close to Diego Garcia airport. BUT MH370 could have been heading for Diego Garcia.

Pretty amazing. More than a year after my March 15, 2015 contention that the Maldives should be a TOP contender for MH370 search sites they are now talking about it again.

Just does not make sense. Why have they spent a year and countless millions searching, with ZERO results, thousands of miles away when they have expended so little investigating the Maldives possibility.

Still not one piece of debris from the plane. Very strange. Based on that I still think MH370 must have landed, intact.

That it was seen flying North to Southeast seems weird. It would be backtracking (and it was too low per se to be considered to be circling) from whence it came. But heading South would put it on track to Diego Garcia from where it was seen.

In 3 days it will be the 13th month anniversary.

Pretty simple.

Just do any Google Image search, for example ‘Anura Guruge’.

Then, once the image results are displayed TYPE “Atari Breakout” in the Search Trench (field) at the Top.

Bob will then be your uncle. Enjoy.

U.S. productivity is still way too high despite all of the distractions available through the Web. We have to get it down to stimulate job hiring.

This “Atari Breakout” will definitely help. Please play for at least 4 hours today. Help the U.S. create more jobs.
