Saw the trailer for Season 3 on PBS the other day and it made our day. Loved Seasons 1 & 2. Don’t think we realized that there was going to be a Season 3. Sure glad there is.

Looking back I see that Season 2 premiered in January 2018. So, Season 3 is coming exactly a year later. So, that must have been the plan all along.

Sure pleased. Wanted to share with you. Now you know. I will remind you, closer to the start.

The 1984 “The Far Pavilions”, Channel 4 Series, Coming To “Acorn TV” On May 14, 2018.

So, the promo banner Ad for this while watching the season 2 finale of “The Good Karma Hospital“.

I was excited because I thought this was to be a new, remake. But, alas, not so. It is the 1984 series from the U.K.

I did see the original and remember that it was quite gripping. But, I now worry that the image quality could let it down. Let’s hope not. Looking forward to the first episode next week. I will keep you posted.

Happened to find it on ‘Acorn TVserendipitously. We hadn’t been to Acorn in a few days, and as such had not seen the ‘banner’ saying Season 2 was here.

Teischan, our British TV aficionado loves this Series, so we had no choice but to watch Episode 1 of Season 2.

It was “OK”. I think it is badly, if not downright poorly, written. Very improbable and contrived storylines. Plus the appearances of the locals confound and confuse me. Most of them do not look Sri Lankan though the series is filmed in Sri Lanka. I do like seeing what today’s Sri Lanka looks like given that I have not been back in 26-years!

But, you, like Teischan, may love it. So, just wanted to make sure you knew that Season 2, which started showing in the U.K. in March 2018, is now available in the U.S. — though not in Canada.

“Victoria” Season 2, On PBS “Masterpiece”, Now — Continues The Magnificence Of Season 1, Seamlessly.

by Anura Guruge

Outstanding. We finished watching the first two episodes of “Victoria“, Season 2, shown back-to-back on Sunday, January 14, 2018, on Tuesday night.

It just carried on from Season 1 with nary a dissapointment. Yes, the Queen’s dresser, the lady from Wales, has left but that is about it.

Maintains the same, well-paced cadence. Beautifully shot. It is indeed a Masterpiece.

A definite MUST WATCH.

‘Victoria & Abdul’ 2017 Movie: Devilishly Funny, Touching & Scenic.

It is based on a true story. There really was an Abdul Karim that struck up quite the relationship with Queen Victoria. Click this image to access the Wikipedia entry for the REAL Abdul Karim.

The MUST WATCH trailer on YouTube.

We were going to watch Season 1 of the PBS “Victoria” on Amazon Prime when I saw this. We had seen the trailer earlier in the year and had DEFINITELY wanted to see it. So, without hesitation, I rented it, in HD format (for the customary 48-hours) for $5.99 from Amazon. I am so glad that I did. It was excellent.

Definitely my cup of Earl Grey. All the things that resonate with I: British life, the British Commonwealth, British Raj, history and period drama. That it was Judi Dench was a bonus.

Loved it. Incredibly funny. Touchingly cute. And as we British would contend, “warms the cockles of your heart“.

It said at the start that it was a “true story — or most of it”. That made it even more special. I have since discovered that it is indeed so, though the movie, no doubt, took some poetic licenses.

Highly, highly recommended. Ideal movie for these days. Reminds you what loyalty and service is all about.

Set us up, nicely, for Season 2 of “Victoria“, on PBS, in January 2018.

“The Durrells In Corfu” & “The Collection” Have Come To An End On PBS — For Now, I Hope.

by Anura Guruge

I have my DISH DVR (i.e., Hopper) to automatically record all new episodes of “The Durrells in Corfu” & “The Collection“.

The Monday after the Thanksgiving weekend, i.e., November 27, 2017, I noticed that I did NOT have any new episodes for either show. I thought that PBS might have opted to skip that weekend.

Then again this weekend. NADA.

So, I went and looked at PBS.org.

They have BOTH ended. Unexpectedly, I would say — especially for “The Collection“.

I hope PBS is not playing ‘games’ because of their budget cuts.

“Victoria” Season 2 Will Start On PBS “Masterpiece” On January 14, 2018.

Victoria” on PBSMasterpiece“, earlier this year, was very engaging, educational and easy on the eye. We watched every episode, greedily. Did NOT realize, until we suddenly saw a trailer for it on PBS today, that there was a Season 2. We are delighted. Can’t wait. It should be good.

So, this is a heads up.

They are going to rerun Season 1 starting December 17, 2017.

Here is the PBS Homepage for this delightful show.

“A Place To Call Home”, The Australian “Downton Abbey”, Season 5 Premieres On “Acorn TV” On Thanksgiving 2017.

by Anura Guruge

We are addicted to this show and have hungrily watched each and every episode, sometimes 2 or 3 at a sitting. Teischan went back over the Summer and watched it ALL — all over again — on her own.

We discovered this Australian series, serendipitously, on ‘Acorn TV‘ (on our Roku), in 2015 and were hooked as of Episode 1. We think of it as an Australian “Downton Abbey“. Good storyline. Has you both rooting for various characters and in ‘suspenders’. Very watchable.

Teischan will be so excited.

Kind of cute. Season 4, last year, also premiered on Thanksgiving Day (albeit 2016). So, Acorn is kind of teasing us. That is OK.

This made my day. Yippeee!

“The Durrells In Corfu” Season 2 Is Now On PBS — And Episode 1 Was Compelling.

by Anura Guruge

We enjoyed Season 1, though I was disappointed that it was NOT a straight adaptation of “My Family and Other Animals” — a book I read, in Ceylon, when I was about 12 and just loved. I went onto read many of Gerald’s books and become a great fan of his, though I really should (as part of my bucket list read at least one of Larry’s ).

It was cute, funny, appealing, culturally elucidating — and sumptuously filmed and produced.

Watched Season 2 Episode 1. It was good. Kept you fully engaged throughout and had lots of humor.

If you missed it, I think you can catch that episode online or on YouTube.

PBS Masterpiece “Home Fires” Season 2 Ended Last Week, Unexpectedly BUT With A Bang, With Episode 6.

The last episodes of Season 2, Episode 6 the last. Click to ENLARGE.

IF ‘they’, i.e., PBS, told us that ‘Home Fires‘ Season 2 will end last Sunday with Episode 6, I missed it.

This weekend I kept on looking for it. Then worked out that it must have ended. A quick Web search confirmed that.

Wow. Episode 6, quite literally, ended with quite the BANG! So there will most likely be a Season 3 — though it might not be for a long time. There was a 17-month gap between Seasons 1 and 2.

Episode 6 should be available online.

Just wanted to make sure you did not miss it.
