Teischan, my 9-year old, pointed this out last night — Father’s day will be (as she calls it) on the first day of Summer. She is into things like that, and I am glad.
Got me thinking as to how often this happens — like Easter and Passover on the same weekend.
Father’s Day, in the United States, is on the third Sunday of June. It was first celebrated in the U.S. in 1910. It was officially recognized as a holiday, by President Nixon, in 1972. Mother’s Day started c. 1870.
The Summer solstice occurs between June 20 and June 22.
June 22nd is one day out to ever be the third Sunday. But, Father’s Day can and will fall on a June 20 or 21st.
I went and checked it from 1990 to 2020.
2020 is interesting. Father’s Day is on June 21 BUT the Solstice is on June 20.
So this is the last conjunction for a while.
Enjoy. Happy Father’s Day. Happy Summer Solstice — though it is MY LEAST favorite day of the year. As of the Summer Solstice days start getting SHORTER. To me that is NOT the start of Summer. That is the start of Winter. I revel in the Winter Solstice. To me that is the start of Summer.
Don’t forget the Fremont, Seattle, Washington State Summer Fair takes place on the Solstice.
