N.H. ‘Wallis Sands’ State Park Prohibits Digging Dry Sand.

We stopped by there on Wednesday, September 4, 2019, when we went for a drive by the ocean. First time we have ever pulled in and parked there. Drive by there all the time but we are always going somewhere else. It was near empty. Nice beach. Nice views. Well maintained.

I saw the BIG sign in RED: ‘No Digging In Dry Sand’.

Never seen a sign like that.

I guess it has to do with pollution and EROSION. Dry sand will — and I guess MUST — get blown about and away from the beach.

Strange. But, that must be the reason. I will have to ask someone.

Wanted to share.

Selfies My Way — On Turning 66 (Just For The Record).

Yes, you are free to steal these pictures.

Another supposed milestone come and gone. But, I really am NOT fussy about birthdays — given that I am adopted. So, can’t really be sure when I was actually born. Doesn’t matter. Not a major birthday, anyway. Last year I was eligible for Medicare. That was BIG. As far as I know there is nothing else I will get beyond that.

These were taken at “Warren’s Lobster House” in Kittery, Maine. They have a fairly big mirror. I think I have taken selfies there before.

Taking Selfies My Way — Part XXXII; ‘Mint Bistro’, Manchester [NH] — September 4, 2018.

No post-processing whatsoever!

Went to the ‘Mint Bistro‘ in Manchester, New Hampshire for dinner. I wasn’t that impressed with the place nor its food BUT it had a nice airy, single-use men’s room with a large, clean, well-lit mirror. Had my Google Pixel 2 in my pocket and could not resist. This was the best part of going there for dinner!

Los Angeles (L.A.), “The Angles”, Was Founded This Day 236-Years Ago; September 4, 1781.

236-years. That is a pretty respectable age for a U.S. West Coast city — and it was, of course, established by the Spanish, missionaries, at that. Quite the history that now often gets lost in the fog.

Today, September 4, 2017, Is Google’s 18th Birthday — It Is Now ‘Of Age’.

by Anura Guruge

Wow, Larry Page and Sergey Brin incorporated Google on September 4, 1998, while still postgraduate students at Stanford. One of their early, Angel investors was Jeff Bezos of Amazon! No wonder he is so rich. I don’t recall seeing any mention, of late, that Jeff Bezos is still an investor. He most likely is, in which case we have a Google — Amazon relationship that I have never heard talked about by financial gurus.

The domain name ‘google.com‘, with “google” per se a misspelling of “googol“, i.e., 10 to the power of 100, September 15, 1997 — just under a year ahead of the incorporation.

I guess Larry and Sergey had NOT Googled “September 4” to realize that it was “E-Day”, for Edsel, a day remembered for spectacular failures. I guess Google proved that wrong.

September 4, “E-Day” For “Edsel” — A Day To Commemorate Brilliant Failures!

THE Ford Edsel — For Ever Synonymous With Failure.

The Henry Ford Family Tree.

Edsel was the FAMOUS son, Henry Ford II’s father.

September 4th will always be “E-Day” — the day in 1957 that the Ford Motor company launched the ill-fated Edsel — the “E car“.

As such September 4 is a day to commemorate and celebrate FAILURE — brilliant failures at that.

Interestingly, “E-Day” is the ONLY event of any note that has EVER happened on September 4.

Some, ill-formed lists of ‘anniversaries’ will list September 4 as the birthday of Henry Ford. NOT SO. The Henry Ford, who created Ford, was born on June 30, 1863.

September 4 is the birthday of his grandson, Henry Ford II. BIG, difference.

He was the one that launched the Edsel. It was to coincide with HIS birthday!

The ‘Edsel’ was quite the ego trip for Henry Ford II. It was named after his DAD!

The name “Edsel” itself, IRONICALLY, is an old English word for ‘rich’. Well the Ford’s were indeed rich, though not thanks to the Edsel.

From Google Maps. “Cadillac Mountain Summit Road”. Click to ENLARGE. From what I can determine the fatal crash happened around this area.

We were actually in Acadia when this accident happened. But we were on the other side of the Island, i.e., the western side, heading towards “Long Pond“, at the time. We drove past the entrance to “Cadillac Mountain Summit Road” around 10:30pm but everything was long gone. On Monday, September 5, 2016, we did drive up around 3:45pm for our customary jaunt around the Summit but we didn’t see any signs of the accident from the day before.

His Facebook page, with pictures of his bike, is still up
(Wednesday, September 7, 2016).

With Pope Francis Approving 2nd Miracle, Mother Teresa Will Be Made A Saint On My Birthday, September 4, 2016.

by Anura Guruge

Pope Francis approved the second miracle attributed to Mother Teresa on March 15, 2016.

That she would be canonized, i.e., made a Catholic Saint, was never in doubt. Her process for canonization, i.e., the ‘cause for canonization‘, was ‘fast tracked’ by the Vatican — that means the Vatican started working on her ’cause’ without waiting for the usual 5-year grace period after a person’s death. As a result, as shown in table below she reached the first rung of the canonization process, being declared ‘Venerable’, 5 years and 3 months after a death. She was ‘Beatified’, i.e., made ‘Blessed‘, within 6 years 45 days of her death — a RECORD until it was eclipsed by one even more FAMOUS (and popular) than her, Pope John Paul II.

But, her canonization stalled a bit after that. John Paul II went from ‘Blessed’ to ‘Saint’ in 3 years. It will be 12 years 11 months for Mother Teresa. 19 years since her death. That is still PLENTY FAST. Maybe too fast.

The September 4th date, other than it being my birthday, happens to be the nearest Sunday to the death of her death, September 5.

I kid you not.

I have never seen this before. Nearly fell off my chair.

But, mystery solved. When I click on it it takes me to my Google+ Account. On there is my birthday.

Very clever. Very cute. Very cool. Those Google guys are very clever.

Yes, it is my birthday. I turned 60.

September 4, 1953 — Colombo, Ceylon
then +10.5 hours ahead of GMT.

I am amazed. I feel like I have lived 30 years on borrowed time since I never expected to live beyond 30.
