True, this hasn’t happened as yet, and the Google Pixel 5 is not going to be available until October 2020. Based on what they have seen in the Android 11 code, so far, it looks fairly certain that Google will get this neat feature into the Pixel 5 (which would also mean that I will have to upgrade from my Pixel 4).

Yes, it is true that the battery in the Pixel 4 isn’t the greatest. But, the whole world knows that. Google will fix that come the ‘5’. Of that I am fairly sure.

So, what does this mean. Wireless charging of COMPATIBLE devices. Hold it close to a Pixel 5, which has the SHARE feature enabled, and you can get battery boost from the Pixel. Like jumpering a car. Neat.

But, the KEY question is compatibility. And that is what worries me, now that Google (pending the last regulatory approvals) owns Fitbit.

Will Google ever let Garmin be compatible? That is what concerns I.

Yes, Garmin now has Solar Charging and by Black Friday we should have that on the Fenix 7, the Instinct and the next Forerunner. That is all good. But, battery sharing will be more ‘powerful’, in every way, to Solar. Would be a bummer if Garmin is forever excluded.

Unlikely that Apple or Samsung will go out of their way to support Garmin with their, inevitable, variations of SHARE.

So, where will this leave Garmin?

I care. I love my Garmin watches (and yes, I have three.).

‘Georges Duboeuf’ Loves My Review Of The ‘Beaujolais Nouveau 2019’.

Appeared on my Facebook timeline yesterday. Made me SMILE.

I would have been quite surprised IF they hadn’t loved it! It is a very positive, upbeat review — which it had to be given that I did love the wine.

But, also surprised that they left it at that. They don’t have many reviews this year. I would have thought that they would have shared my post. C’est la vie. I am cool. It was their call. Their loss. SMILE.

Though I have always, as for as long as I can recall, been a huge fan of Amazon, and as of 2011 used them for ALL of my book publishing, it is only this year, as a fully-paid up Amazon Prime member and an AMZN stockholder that I truly started to see that Amazon is invincible — at least over the next few years. These days I am just in total awe of Amazon. Like Google they really are at the top of their game.

Click to ENLARGE. Guess what line is UPS and what is AMZN.

Given the amount of online shopping that I do with Amazon, 88 orders in the last 6 months (i.e., 14 orders a month), I know their shipping habits pretty well and, moreover, I keep them honest. IF they miss the 2-day shipping on a Prime item I call them up. So far I have had 2 months of FREE Prime and $10 of gift credit. While they do quite well with UPS outside of the Christmas window, Christmas is always a challenge — as is the number of items now getting shipped directly from China, outside of Prime. I know that AMZN dearly wants to fix that.

That they are thinking of doing some of their own shipping has been an open secret for months. Makes a lot of sense.

But to me what would make sense is for them to buy (or merge with) UPS or FedEx. I am sure UPS shareholders would LOVE IT. Their shares have been going nowhere while AMZN keeps on defying gravity. Also in terms of Market Cap AMZN is 4 times that of UPS and 8 times that of FedEx.

There will be synergies PLUS Amazon can get a piece of the eBay action! Sweet. Talking of which I am surprised that AMZN hasn’t started offering auctions. They could kill eBay (and I own eBay shares too).

So just a thought.

I Am Not Sure I Want Amazon (AMZN) Stock To Split Though It Appears Predestined Already.

When Netflix (NFLX) and Apple (APPL) split.

With over 30 years of investing behind me I am now savvy enough to know that stock splits — or even reverse stock splits — don’t change the essential economic or operational dynamics of the underlying company. Splits are essentially artificial and contrived mechanisms to rejig the price of  a stock into a more ‘acceptable’ trading range.

I, as a proud and v. happy Amazon shareholder, expect AMZN to be approaching $800 by March 2016 — and my very active, even frenzied, option trading on AMZN reflects that. SMILE.

And for the last few weeks I have realized, innately, that an AMZN stock split could be likely, as was the case with APPL and NFLX, when the price gets into the $700 range.

But a AMZN stock split does NOT fill me with joy. Yes, even a 3-for-1 split would ensure that I would be able to claim that I own thousands of AMZN shares — and yes, that would further increase my stock option trading options (if you know what I mean). SMILE.

But, after years of pondering, the split-issue I finally have a concrete answer as to why I do NOT like splits of EXPENSIVE stock — like AMZN.

It brings in the WRONG CLASS of investor!

Sorry. It is not a question of being snobbish, it is a matter of safeguarding one’s assets.

At $600 – $700 you can keep away the casual, uninformed (if not totally clueless) retail investor. And that means you don’t get silly gyrations.

At $70 everybody and their dog thinks that they can own 100 shares — and then we get into the knee-jerk, totally irrational trading.

IF you study the NFLX chart, carefully, you will see that the split didn’t do the serious, long-term investors, such as I, any favors — though it made option trading more exciting.

I am fairly resigned to the fact that AMZN will most likely split in 2016. Yes, I will play options like crazy around the split since there will always be the totally meaningless SPIKE in price ahead of and just after the split. Well, you can’t win them all.
