Do a search of Google News for ‘copper shortage‘.
When I first heard about this shortage on the financial sites (e.g., MarketWatch, CNBC, etc.) I follow, I thought were running out of copper. That was kind of scary. Got me wondering if we have ever before exhausted a naturally occurring element — one that we relied on, quite literally.
A bit more research today shows that the shortage is due to our current capacity to extract it. That is kind of a relief.
I am glad that we, in the US, no longer use copper for our plumbing. But, I had forgotten about wiring because the copper is mainly covered. We will have to start reusing, remelting old copper.
