China Is Becoming Quite Blatant That It Has BIG Plans For Sri Lanka!

A Sri Lankan friend, living in Canada, send me this YouTube.

For those of you who may not be familiar, ‘Sinhala‘, the language of the majority Sinhalese, is the predominant language of Sri Lanka.

China already through various deals & LEASES owns a fair chunk of coastal Sri Lanka — including one strategic port.

Various administrations, over the last two decades, have out of desperation or for personal gain, given China more & more access & sway over the country. China is happy to lend Sri Lanka lost of money (with backhanders in tow) as long as the loans are backed up by access to land & water.

It is no secret that China doesn’t have enough fertile land to support it population. They are buying & leasing land all over the world.

Sri Lanka has the advantage of being rather close & with great ports.

Some discerning Sri Lankans are understandably concerned. Sri Lanka has only been independent since 1948. Will it still be truly independent in 2048?

Sinhala New Year (Aluth Avurudda), 2016: Auspicious Times In The U.S.

I actually don’t celebrate the Sinhala New Year, other than in my mind, because there is nobody around here to celebrate it with. I also have given up on astrology.

But I did this for nostalgia, because I do remember all of this well.

Enjoy. Happy New Year.

I had expected to find a Stamp Set for this year’s, i.e., April 14, 2016, Sinhala New Year, i.e., Aluth Avurudda. IF they did I could not find them — and please put me right. I will, of course, update this post.

Here is the link to the Philatelic Bureau of Sri Lanka. I couldn’t see any New Year related announcements.

Google Doodle For Sinhala New Year (Avurudu) 2016 On April 14?

by Anura Guruge

snygdrequest1

snygdrequest2

Well as you can clearly see I made a formal request, through the PROPER Google channels, last year when I saw how crushed the Sinhalese were when they did not get a Doodle.

Sri Lanka is DUE a Google Doodle.

Inexplicably there was NO Google Doodle for this year’s February 4 ‘Independence Day‘. Again I could, from 8,864 miles away, feel the disappointment and frustration.

BUT I, though no longer a native or citizen, had done my duty — in 2013.

The VERY FIRST Google Doodle that Sri Lanka ever had, for Independence Day 2013, was at MY REQUEST — and I have THE proof.

I got these DEMANDS in an e-mail, from Sri Lanka, yesterday.

This is just an extract to demonstrate the kind of thing that they are after.

This would be LAUGHABLE if not for the fact that these folks are deadly serious and will kill for this! Never mind Buddhism’s so called pacificity. That is long forgotten now.

1. Protecting the status of the Sinhala Buddhist majority that built the Sinhale nation

  • Recognise Sri Lanka as a predominantly Buddhist country and uphold the Sinhala Buddhist civilization and its ethos constitutionally and legally. (for over 2600 years Buddhism was State religion invited by royal invitation and the compassionate nature of Buddhism ensured treatment of all citizens and even visitors with compassion).
  • Secure the foremost status of Buddhism and foster Buddhism both within and outside the country while ensuring the right to freedom of religious practice for all other religions (right to practice religion does not entitle the head offices of these religions to strategically change the pre- existing and current religious and cultural landscape of Sri Lanka to create one where their religion becomes majority with time).
  • Follow 70-30 representation – Majority Sinhala Buddhists must be assured of representation at all levels of Government, Legislature, Executive, Judiciary etc. and across all systems, that reflects the 70% demographic ratio of Sinhala Buddhists in the country while only 30% of places in any system should be allocated to religious and ethnic minorities. Allocation of time for public service by MPs must be according to ethnic ratio.
  • Allocation of housing (flats/housing schemes) & any state allocation to be based on the ethnic ratio of the country – 70% to Sinhalese & 30% to minorities to be divided at their discretion
Strive towards establishing a compassionate society in Sri Lanka which is all inclusive, protects all living beings and encourages peaceful co–existence between man and animal (a noble call no one can take objection to).
Protection of the rights of Sinhala Buddhists in particular the lower income groups and addressing their grievances on a priority basis. Tamils will have India to provide aid, Muslims have over 50 Muslim nations to provide aid, Christians/Catholics have Western Christian nations & Vatican – Sinhala Buddhists have only the State that built the nation.
  • No ethnic ghettos allowed anywhere in Sri Lanka to prevent potential uprisings in the future based on sectarian ideologies and separatist identities.
    …  …  ….

2. Protecting heritage, history and natural environment

  • Declare Buddhist heritage sites as National Heritage sites providing both State protection and funds for preservation. But an end to attempts to eliminate national heritage/history via bogey of multiculturalis/multifaith and internationalism
  • No other religion that can with evidence claim to have existed prior to 2600 Buddhist history can demand joint-heritage claim status. Stop well planned moves to identify and declare historic Buddhist sites as multi faith sites e.g. Sri Pada. Kataragama, Dambulla etc.
  • Moratorium on construction of new places of religious worship via foreign funds coming from sources out to create ethnic/religious tension combined with their imperial expansion ideologies
  • Introduce anti-conversion (i.e., missionary) bill and ensure foreign-funded conversion of Buddhists and Hindus are legally dealt with.
  • Foremost place to Buddhism via Article 9 must require Buddha Sasana Minitry to task panels to regularly produce reports covering media distortions/other manipulations by western funded-NGOs(content analysis of current media to denigrate Buddhists), incursions of heritage areas/sites, brainwashing of children towards multiculturalism/multifaith in an effort to get them to abandon their links to heritage and denationalize them. Christianity has $170billion / Wahhabi slam has $87billion to promote their faith worldwide.
    …  …  ….

3. Language

  • Sinhala to be only official language of Sri Lanka.
  • Tamil to be secondary language and English link language.
  • Mandatory for all citizens to speak and write basic Sinhalese.

4. Rights of citizens

  • Equal land rights & ownership in any part of Sri Lanka for its citizens. No law should deny the right of citizen to purchase land & live in any part of Sri Lanka (this will address current demands for only Tamil land/only Muslim land while Tamils and Muslims secure right to live in all parts of Sri Lanka while Sinhalese will not have right to land or right to live in North or East.
  • Foreign service and other public service must include briefings on the pre-colonial history and the real patriots/heroes of Sri Lanka

There is more ….

But this should give YOU a good idea as to what they are DEMANDING.

No sooner is the Sinhala New Year, April 13 – 14,
done and dusted before Sri Lankan Buddhists
have to start gearing up for Vesak —
the Buddhist equivalent of Christmas, Good Friday
and Epiphany rolled into one mega holy day.

Sri Lankan Buddhist celebrate Vesak
on the Full Moon day of May
in 2015, on May 3, 2015 in Sri Lanka.

Buddhist in other countries will
celebrate it on June 1 — the June Full Moon.

It is possible that the Sri Lankans are celebrating it too early —
the May 2015 Full Year falling rather early in the month.

No matter. In Sri Lanka this is not negotiable
(like so much else when it comes to Buddhism).

Vesak is always the May Full Moon.

So with Aluth Avurudda successfully negotiated,
we will now turn our attention to Vesak —
though I do not ‘celebrate’ it per se.

I know that this year it started on April 13th
but I tend to think of April 14th as Sinhala New Year.

So Happy New Year, AGAIN.

Third (and last) New Year of the Year I celebrate.

April 13th to I is ‘Old Year’
— when I would take a bath (even when I didn’t need to)

It was also the birthday of the grandmother who brought me up
and, at birth, straightened my twisted limbs and made sure
I could ‘pee-pee’ because my foreskin was fused together.
Since she was the matriarch of a powerful family
her birthday was a big deal.
So for me New Year, in Ceylon, started in April 12th
and went on, non-stop, with people, food, presents
and celebrations till the 14th.

Rather than trying to reproduce the traditional pictures, e.g., oil lamps, betel leaves, milk rice etc., I wanted to share some OLD pictures from Ceylon — from the 1950s.

I don’t have as many as I should. About 10 years ago I threw away over dozen very large cartons of old photos — because I just didn’t have the space to keep them. I still have some BUT those from the 1950s and 1960s are SMALL and are mainly of family members. I found these two, of interest, and two pictures I had drawn, in Ceylon, c. 1963.

I hope some of YOU will recognize the person in the middle in glasses. Yes, that is Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike, Prime Minister from 1956 to Sept. 1959. He died just after my 6th birthday. I remember his death. I am sure I met him. His wife went onto be “Aunty Bandaranaike”, a lady that I spoke to, first thing in the morning, nearly every day for many years when I was 9 to maybe 12. I think this picture is at an airport. Click to ENLARGE.

A typical 1950s dinner party in Ceylon. I remember these. This was in Wellawatte, in ‘Hampden Lane’ — probably around 1955 (maybe 1956). Notice the banana trees (growing wild). This was in the gardens of the first house I lived — before moving to Nugegoda.

When I was in Ceylon I used to go to art school etc. and I was supposed to be able to draw and paint. I did do a lot of it.
I painted a lot of planes and trains. Here are two examples, probably from when I was about 10. Notice the brown pilot.
Judging from the engines I was trying to capture a Comet-4, the first jet plane I encountered and one that held me in thrall for years.
The train engine looks like what we used to call “Canadian Diesel” — but it might have been a “Power Unit”.
What is interesting is that it is not steam. I not only remember the steam trains I even worked on them! Different stories.
Helps when you have an uncle who was an inspector of railways.

Well it looks like the chances are SLIM that there will be a
Google Doodle for Sinhala New Year 2015.

See post 1, post 2 & post 3.

So I just NOW requested one for 2016.

Here is MY proof.

So IF we get one in 2016 I do NOT want
others trying to claim credit as they
tried to do in February 2013
ONCE I got the very 1st Doodle.

With Google — it is ALL about relationships. They KNOW me. And that counts.
I generate Google hits and Google traffic. That counts. I actively use Google products:
Google+, Blogger, Analytics, YouTube, Voice … They know. That counts.
Most of all IF you do a Google on my name you get a LOT of pages. That counts.

Sorry folks, it is NOT looking good.

Bangladesh and the Khmer people (Cambodia) got Google Doodles
for their April 14, 2015 New Year.

It is past 1 am in Sri Lanka as I write this.

I, as is my wont, checked BOTH google.lk and the Google Doodle archive.

NOTHING.

There is still a SMALL chance … BUT it isn’t looking good.

I will contact Google and see if we can get one for 2016 —
given that I DID get Independence Day one in 2013.

NOT looking good folks. I am sorry.
See this LATEST update.

I would NOT totally give up as yet.
Lets face it April 13th, typically, is ‘Old Year‘.

Most years the Sinhala New Year is on April 14th.

So Google still MIGHT do one in time for April 14.

So keep legs crossed (fingers alone will not do).

This is what the Thai got.
