I Sold My Full-Frame ‘Canon EOS RP’ On eBay Today — 1-Year After I Got It.

Did NOT plan it as such — sell it after 1-year.

NO. I did NOT need the money. SMILE.

I just realized I had NOT used it in over 2-months. And that is my rule with cameras. IF I haven’t used it — get rid of it.

Last picture I had taken with it.

That was on January 28, 2020!

Not good.

It had to go.

Obviously I am still taking pictures every day. But, not with my Canon. I like my ‘new’ Google Pixel 4.

I am happy with what I got on eBay. I ended up selling the grip, my Canon RF 35mm (which I had BARELY used) and my control ring adapter. Still have two other items to sell. I am good.

I have NO CAMERA! Wow. Just my Google Pixel 4. Kind of feel naked.

Yes, I have an idea as to what I might get. NO, it will not be full-frame. It will not even be APS-C or even 1″!

Yes, I am going back to TINY sensor. I am going to get a TRAVEL compact. The Pixel 4 doesn’t zoom far or do macro that well.

I will keep you posted.

One of the 1st pictures I took with it.
April 17, 2019.

Funny. I wrote a book about getting this camera.

My accidental book!

Camera’s gone. But, the book is forever! That is life. That is why I write books!

I Sold My AliveCor ‘KardiMobile’ ECG Unit On eBay For $67 + Shipping.

My LSAT AliveCor ECG
from April 29, 2019.

My heart rate was just one beat above the cut-off for Bradycardia!

I got the AliveCor ‘KardiMobile’ last September, for $99 (from Amazon), to allay Apple Watch 4 envy.

I have no regrets about getting it. It was cool to do my own ECGs and those of relatives.

But, none of us had any heart issues! That is NOT a bad thing. But, after awhile it becomes boring. Samo-samo. So, it just sat there not getting used. But, the Kardi APP can be annoying. Reminds you daily to take an ECG.

So, I decided to sell it. Was easy enough. I am fairly chuffed with the price I got $67 + shipping.

So, I had it for 8-months and that cost me $32. That is not bad in my book.

I Sold My Sony FE 90mm Lens On eBay In Less Than 1 Hour!

by Anura Guruge

It really is getting time for me to get a new camera — in place of my aging Sony a7 II. But, I am still going to wait until late March. No point getting one while it is cold and there is snow on the ground. So, I am willing to wait until Spring. But, I wanted to start getting ready.

Last Summer I sold 6 or 7 of my Sony lenses, Full-Frame & APS-C along with my Sony a6500. I was down to two lenses: this 90mm Prime and my trusty 24-240mm zoom. Now I am just down to the zoom.

I listed the 90mm, on eBay, on a whim on Friday morning. I set a ‘Buy-it-Now’ price at $760. That was a win-win price. I would be happy with it and it would still represent a good deal for the buyer. Well this gentleman, from Texas, figured it out. I had also thrown in two of my six Sony batteries to sweeten the deal. So, it all worked out.

I am HAPPY. I am fairly sure I am now going to get the Canon EOS RP that was announced yesterday. Unlike with the Sony I am not going to get a bunch of lenses. I am going to limit myself to three at most four BUT here is the crazy thing. Canon lenses, compared to Sony, are so affordable that I can get TWO lenses for the price it costs for one Sony. That is the main reason I am switching from Sony. The lenses were way too expensive.

I Sold My Sony RX100 MkII On eBay For A Decent Price.

by Anura Guruge

sonysoldebayfeb4

I listed it as a 5-day auction, finishing around 2:30pm on Thursday, February 4, 2016 — Sri Lanka Independence Day.

I offered it to you folks for $320. I listed it on eBay with a start price of $305 & $14.75 for shipping (and shipping with $300 insurance came to $16.60).

Some 120 odd people (and some were very odd indeed) looked at it (per eBay statistics) and by Thursday morning 11 were watching it. But no bids. Then the first bid came in from a first time eBay buyer — with ‘0’ feedback. That scared me. Didn’t like the idea of shipping a $350 camera to a person unknown to eBay. I was even thinking of refusing to ship if that person won. Well all the action was in the last few minutes! I guess this was always the case with eBay. The new buyer tried valiantly but was beaten out much to my relief.

The lady who bought it, from California, paid at once. That is always encouraging. I did the shipping label through PayPal. PayPal likes it — and I am an eBay & PayPal shareholder. So I have to support these companies. I am happy. I would rather have sold it locally. Something else that was nice and PayPal told me this. Camera in its box fits in, with tons of space to spare, in a USPS 2-day, Flat-Rate Medium Size box — and the weight limit is 70 pounds. The camera and the book was less than 2 pounds. So this was easy. I am even sending her the printed manuals though I did not include them in the eBay listing. Might as well.

Now come the ‘fun’ part. Looking for a NEW camera. My 5th in since September 2015! I told you. This is why I avoided cameras for 30 years. I like them too much. REALLY going to try to standardize on Fuji. Fuji and I are very compatible — emphasis on still photography rather than video and LOTS of control wheels/buttons. Stay tuned.

Just a heads up.

Most of you were probably asleep. We are taking around mid-night and continuing past 1:20 am.

The service was up BUT it was slow, intermittent and had TCP/IP issues. Most of the time you could not complete a speedtest! The speedtest would time out. Never seen that before.

But all seems well now. So just documenting this. OK?

I use the Comcast node in Boston
as opposed to the default node in Portland, ME.
Comcast has more bandwidth!

BOTH, however, use OOKLA technology.

I happened, quite by chance, to come across a slew of stories about the MetroCast sell-off, similar to that above, when I did a search on Google News for a Metrocast outage last night.

I was kind of taken aback. Though I do follow the financial markets quite extensively I had NOT heard of this deal. I quickly worked out that this deal was just for the Connecticut area. So I called up MetroCast to find out what the deal is.

MetroCast New Hampshire has NOT BEEN sold as yet! But this is not good news. The more bits of MetroCast that get sold off, MetroCast as a cable provider loses clout … because they are not as big. I don’t use MetroCast cable or a bundle. I am not totally stupid, just partially. I just use MetroCast for their quite impressive 75Mbps Internet service. I get DISH (through TDS) at more than 1/2 the price than what it would cost me with MetroCast.

Anywho … Just a heads up. I will now track this.

After 9 Months Of Abstinence I Had To Take A Bite, Albeit A Very Little One, Of AAPL.

After the split Apple (AAPL) looked somewhat delicious. The last time I had bought AAPL, c. 2007, I had done so when it was below $100. Well it was back below $100 again. Though I hadn’t owned it since September of last year, once I sold it after sextupling (and get you mind of the gutter) my investment (since I had also written a LOT of options against the stock I owned), I still kept an eye on it. The momentum was again in its favor.

I only bought a ‘couple’ of shares. So no great investment. I am keeping an eye on it. I also bought a ‘couple’ of AT&T (‘T‘) stocks at the same time.

These really are my ‘Mad Money’ stocks. Just a ‘couple’ here and there. Not part of my core investment portfolio. I have, in my dotage, stopped being frivolous with the ‘core’. You can only afford to throw away two or three fortunes in your lifetime. As some point you have to buckle down and take this investment thing seriously. But, for the record, I just had to let you know. I again have AAPL.

What a market. Cracks me up. Feel real bad for the folks that got spooked away after the trials and tribulations of 2008 to 2010. Seems SO FAR away.

For The First Time In 7 or 8 Years I Am No Longer An Apple (APPL) Shareholder. Do Not Trust Tim Crook.

No, I did not sell this morning when it was already down $25+.

I sold ten minutes into the announcement yesterday. I tried to time it and set a market limit. In the end I decided I was just going to pull the trigger rather than wait. I didn’t get the peak but I was within $3 of it.

i did not lose any money. I had bought this batch of AAPL shares in 2005 or 2006 when the price was below $75. I think I have told this story before. I had an 80(+) neighbor (in Gilford, on Varney Point), ex-FAA, WWII POW, named Milt Cram, who, quite rightly, prided himself as quite a stock picker — and he sure did pick them. He used to watch CNBC all day. Around 2005 (or 2006) he told me that he told one of his granddaughters that she should try and buy at least ONE share of AAPL. Got me thinking. I could afford more than one share, so I bought 100. Over the years I wrote a lot of options against that allocation. I also bought more … sold some … bought more. But, I basically rode it up from $75.

Last year I sold 57% of my holdings at around $620. My son, the new stock whiz, gave me grief that I should have sold it earlier. But, I have found to my cost that you can’t invest in hindsight.

I am done. There is no glory in holding AAPL anymore.

We are NOT Apple consumers or users. So, sod it.

Do not trust Tim Crook, he is cooking the books.

I haven’t done any stock picking in ages. My son, who is now in the process of trying to start a hedge fund, has sent me plenty of suggestions.

It was kind of funny, in a sad way, to watch AAPL fall this morning. So glad that I sold.
