Yesterday I saw a number of hits on ‘macdurgin closed‘ and ‘macdurgin sold‘ coming here, I, of course, having done a post about the possibility, now categorically voted against, of a sex shop opening within the MacDurgin building. So, I made a call or two. Yes, MacDurgin has been sold (or at least that is what I was told by somebody who would know). I was, however, glad to learn that not too many people were affected. From what I gather only two full time employees were left at the end. I was glad to hear that. There were some good folks that worked there or at least used to come to work there.
The MacDurgin building on Union Av. in Laconia per Google street view.
It has been 10 years since I was booted out. So I really have no associations with the place.
I found this on this computer. It seems to be the only thing from MacDurgin I still have. It was probably the last newsletter that I produced while I was there.
I checked their Website while I was on the phone yesterday. It seems to have been wound down. For a start the logo has been removed. That might have been a condition of the sale.
I did find this statement, and the last sentence of the first para. did have me scratching my head. Ah! Talk about a Non sequitur.
To be fair we heard about it in a roundabout, but still perfectly valid, way. Deanna and the kids were supposed to be attending yet another pool party birthday celebration there this month. Then Deanna got an e-mail saying that it had to be rescheduled because the Inn had been sold and the closing date for the sale corresponded with the day for the party — and that the Inn was going to be closed that day. That was what we heard. I noticed today that there appears to be a lot of ‘interest’ in the Inn. So I too did a search this morning and found this. Yes, the price appears to have been lowered. I thought I had seen it around the $725K mark. I don’t know. My interest is cursory at best.
