What The Heck Is Wrong With The South African Cricket Team — Is It Voodoo?

by Anura Guruge

Click to access my post from 4-months ago.

From: cricinfo.com.

Given the amount of cricket I watch, I have seen a lot of teams — and the recent West Indies team readily comes to mind — play horribly. But, the South African performance against Australia in the 1st T20 was beyond comprehension. It was an absolute, bloody abortion. Jesus wept. I nearly did too.

Yes, there is definite Munda Logic — i.e., African thought process, or, in this instance, to be precise, lack of thought process all together. I think the world of Quinton de Kock. But, as captain he is demonstrating what used to be joked about him. He is NO intellectual. He seems utterly lost as captain.

The dropped bloody catches. I have never seen anything like that?

I don’t believe in that mumbo jumbo, but many of them do and is it possible that they think that they are under a Voodoo spell. Sire played like they were under a dark cloud.

Yes, then there is the possibility of CORRUPTION and match-fixing!

What is going on right now is NOT right. Something is very, very WRONG.

I am very upset. I like this team, BUT not when they play like this — like a bunch of teenage girls all having their monthlies at the same time.

One Memorable ‘Haka’ — Farewell To The New Zealand ‘All Blacks’ Rugby Team By Airline Staff.

by Anura Guruge

So this is the ‘Air New Zealand‘ staff doing a spirited haka to wish farewell to the ‘All Blacks‘ heading for the Rugby World Cup 2019.

Not often that you get to see women doing the haka and to I it makes this even more special.

Would appear that the whole team (probably upwards of 22) were not there — up front. From what I can see just 4, in orange vests, came as representatives. Not sure what the logistics were. But, you can see that there is genuine passion and affection on all sides.

Just for the record, this was 2015, when the ‘Air New Zealand’ staff did a welcome haka for the victorious ‘All Blacks’ after the 2015 World Cup.

South Africa Deserved To Be Creamed By India In The 1st Test; Their 2 Fast Bowlers Lack Any Venom.

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and read. From, of course, ‘cricinfo.com’.

Rabada & Philander hardly bowled a single venomous bouncer between them in their combined 46-overs. It was pathetic. Rohit Sharma can be susceptible to good bouncers early on. He is a compulsive hooker and puller. So, what did these two clowns do, they just kept on giving him good-length balls.

You are allowed one bouncer per over and it is worth the no-ball to stick another in.

My buddies Andy Roberts and Malcolm Marshall would have been peppering the Indians.

What has happened to cricket? Bloody helmets.

Bouncers are going out of fashion. We saw it in the World Cup and even in the Ashes. Yes, see what happened to Steve Smith. One good bouncer. That is all it takes.

But, how many bouncers did we see. NOT MANY.

Yes, I came of edge, with the West Indies 1976 — 1980s. Bouncers were the stock in trade.

South Africa would have done so much better if they peppered the Indian batsman with at least one bouncer an over.

I am very fond of the South Africans. But, they are driving me to distraction.

They have to reexamine their game and attitude towards it.

Good News For BUSY Rugby Fans, 17-Minute Highlights Of 2019 World Cup Matches, In HD, Available On YouTube (FREE).

by Anura Guruge

Just a very partial listing from YouTube.com.

Given that NBC holds the U.S. broadcast right for the 2019 World Cup I did not expect to see much on YouTube.

I was pleasantly surprised. NBC, for a change, is being NICE. Yes, they are but 17-minute HIGHLIGHTs but it is in HD and appears to capture what is needed. Yes, it does leave you feeling a bit lost and empty at times, but it is better than nothing.

To be honest, I am quite cool with this. I do NOT have time to watch a full 90-100 minute game — not with my writing and also watching cricket! So, this suits I.

Yesterday, I watched two matches, back-to-back: New Zealand v South Africa & Fiji v Australia. They were both beyond excellent. Must watch. Honest. Some of the running. Will leave you breathless.

New Zealand Rugby Team ‘Haka’, At The 2019 Rugby World Cup, For The South Africans.

by Anura Guruge

The New Zealand, ‘All Blacks‘, rugby teams, over the years, are who made the ‘Haka‘ famous.

They, big, brawny and formidable are the ideal troop to do this.

This, at the 2019 Rugby World Cup, ongoing right now, is good. Can’t say it is classic, but it is good. This was the first ‘Haka’ of this World Cup. The New Zealand team will do a ‘Haka’ at the start of each game.

It is, actually, a TRIBUTE to their opponents! Not a challenge. It is honoring them before the battle commences. A very nice gesture. This ‘Haka’ was for the South Africans (in green).

Look at the size of one of the players who stands up and walks to the front. I used to play rugby and would have hated to come up against that guy. He is HUGE.
