Errors & Omissions in Episode 1 of the CNN “Pope” Series.

Oh, dear, dear, dear! It was bad. Painful. Excruciating.

Error upon error. Not sure whether it was ignorance or a desire to just put out ALTERNATE FACTS.

This was very unbecoming. I like CNN. I expected better.

I don’t have the time to go through ALL the errors! At one point I thought I thought I spotted an error EVERY 4th SENTENCE!

I will try and do a series of posts as time permits. This, as such, is Part 1.

The electoral process for Popes prior to the “College of Cardinals” being Formed.

Contrary to what they said (and implied) multiple times, it wasn’t just the cardinals who were involved in the process. Priests, Roman laity and nobles had a say and hand. So, to continually talk about just the cardinals, vis-à-vis papal elections is WRONG.

Explicit statements that the Cardinals decided to form the “College of Cardinals“.

Wrong! The cardinals NEVER had the authority to do anything of this scale. In those days, or even now, the ONLY thing they could really organize, as a gathering, without explicit papal consent, would be an orgy. And I kid you NOT (and they did organize and participate in a lot of those (i.e., orgies)).

Yes, the cardinals, started CALLING themselves as a ‘College’ at a ‘synod’ — BUT that was JUST a name. There was no such College or ‘officials’ — i.e., Dean & a Camerlengo — until Pope Eugene III mandated its creation.

IF only they had bothered to leaf through any one of my 10 Pope books or just called me. Pity. Shame.

FAKE NEWS.

CNN Series: “Pope” Episode 1 — Egregious Errors & Omissions.

by Anura Guruge

Now that the gripping 2nd South Africa v Australia Test Match is over, I finally got to finish watching Episode 1 of the CNN “Pope” series tonight.

I was shocked at some fairly basic stuff they got wrong — dead wrong. There was a lot of FAKE NEWS.

I am pressed for time, and it is 1:07am in the morning, so I am going to make this pithy. So, here are the MAJOR, most egregious errors and omissions that infuriated I.

  1. The claim that St. Peter was the 1st pope is without basis and I already discussed that (in this post).
  2. Claims that the supremacy of the “Bishop of Rome” (i.e., the Pope) was immediately recognized and respected by the other bishops because Rome was the capital of the Empire. Not so, by a long chalk. It took many centuries and much contention before this came to pass. To say that was BAD. Very bad.
    ….
  3.  Claimed that Constantine the Great was the 1st Christian emperor. Not so in reality. Constantine, though he made Christianity an official religion, did NOT become a Christian, i.e., get baptized, until he was in his deathbed! So. yes he was the 1st Christian emperor, but he never ruled as such since he died within hours of becoming a Christian.
    ….
  4. Misrepresents how the term ‘pope’ — meaning ‘father’ in Greek came to be used. Nearly all senior monks in the first few centuries CE were called ‘father’.
    ….
  5. Claims that the bishops that attended the ‘First Council of Nicea‘ created the framework for what would become the College of Cardinals! Hogwash. Fake News. The College of Cardinals came much, much, much later and the cardinals, to begin with, were very Rome-centric. Nothing, whatsoever, to do with the ‘First Council of Nicea’. That was BAD. Very BAD.
    ….
  6. No mention, whatsoever, of St. Paul and that Rome was a TWO Apostle city.

CNN Series “Pope” Episode 1 Re. St. Peter Is FAKE NEWS!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. Go to CNN.com for details.

From my book “Popes: 101 Facts & Trivia“.

The first episode of CNN’sPope‘ series, which aired on Sunday, March 11, 2018, is titled “How Peter Became The First Pope“.

That is FAKE NEWS.

That is akin to having a documentary entitled “How Hillary Became The First Female President“.

It basically did NOT happen.

There is absolutely no proof, historic or Biblical, that Peter was the first pope. There is not even any evidence that St. Peter, unlike St. Paul, ever came to Rome!

That Peter is said to be the first pope is a tradition. A custom.

CNN never mentions that. Fake news.

It prattles on as if this was all true.

Fake news.

I have written about this till I am bue in the face. Do your own research.

Constantine The Great, The Godfather Of Christianity, Believed To Have Been Born Today ~1,745 Years Ago.

Dates going back that far are a bit ‘fuzzy’. So we cannot be sure. February 27, circa 272, however, is what is considered the best guess as to when he was born.

He, in my opinion, was the 2nd most important man in making Christianity what it is today — the FIRST, indubitably, having been St. Paul (originally Saul). Jesus, at best, is #3, if NOT fourth behind St. Peter.

Is Pope Francis Pitting God Against Al Gore As To Who Invented The Internet?

Where is Al Gore?

I hope he is enjoying this Global Warming induced heat wave we are enjoying.

But, as to the Internet.

I think, and as I have mentioned I was the Principal Consultant at BBN a company that provided much of the initial technology for the Internet, that Al Gore probably does have better claims for having invented the Internet than God — though even Al’s claim is pretty lame.

I am the first to admit, though I have a veritable army of Catholics, including a number of priests, who try to educate me on an ongoing basis, this God stuff confuses the heck out of me. Amazes me the number of times I am told that my name got mentioned in Catholic Mass! I am humbled.

I thought everything was a ‘Gift from God. Have I got that wrong? See, I told you. I don’t get this stuff.

Given that I am somewhat open minded lets kick this around. If the Internet is indeed a ‘Gift from God’ what was God doing when poor Galileo was being put to the sword by the Vatican? Ooops! I just worked it out. God was buy creating the Internet while Galileo was on trial. I can understand. Creating the world, us, the universe and all of that in a week was probably nothing compared to creating the Internet. I doubt whether even God could have created the Internet in a week. I think it took Al Gore at least 4 years.

Francis, though I do like him, has this propensity for saying the most inane things — such as ‘Rugby is a gentle sport’!

Maybe not as much now, BUT what was the Internet’s PREDOMINANT use during its first two decades of existence.

Sex and Porn.

So God, in his infinite wisdom, gifted us the ultimate tool for pursuing porn?

Don’t tell anyone but I even know that Catholic priests use the Internet for checking out porn!
So this is ‘a Gift of God’.

Though he (maybe it a she) totally and utterly confounds me, I like God — just like I like Francis. I have always thought that God has one heck of a sense of humor. This is another example. He gives man, and I use that quite intentionally, ‘The Internet’, the ultimate tool for indulging in porn and self-gratification. Way to GO GOD.

Maybe, I got this wrong. Maybe Al Gore was God’s gift. That would make much more sense. So God wanted us to have the Internet, so we could have easier access to porn, and to make that happen gifted us Al Gore.

God sure works in mysterious ways.

I am 100% with this pope when it comes to
sharing the wealth”.

I am a great believer in helping the poor.

My ONLY issue is that the Pope, himself,
can do a BILLION TIMES MORE than what he is doing!

This pope is ultra cheap. Check it out.

He loves to get on his bully pulpit and go on and on about
‘sharing the wealth’.

FINE.

Lets start with the Vatican.

That he decided to auction of his Hog is a great start, but is not enough.

Sell those 5 gold pallium pins that HE, like his predecessor, are so fond of.
Those 5 pins alone should raise at least a couple of million dollars.

This pope is ALL TALK, little action.

Lead by EXAMPLE.
Not by empty rhetoric.

Warren Buffett and Bill Gates and possibly Ted Turner
have given more to charity than this ‘hot air’ pope.

He has billions of assets at his SOLE disposal.

He doesn’t have to get anybodies approval — other than God’s
and I am sure God wouldn’t have any problems with selling
some Vatican knick knacks to help the poor.

But, then again you would think that an all
powerful God could eradicate poverty.

Aaahhhh!

The stupidity of this all.

Pope Francis: Here We Go Again — “Share The Wealth”. Yes, Lets Start With The Vatican — Charity Must Begin At The Vatican.

Here we go again!

More inane gibberish from the Pope.

Don’t get me wrong. I like this Pope. Lets face it. I am one of the FEW who actually had him as a papabile, in print. So, don’t get on your high horse with me.

I am though a realist and a taskmaster — and the pope does not intimidate me. IF he calls me up, and my number is right here (—>>), I will tell him all of this directly.

His statement that Rugby was NON-violent was stupid! Period.

His suggestion about a “Prayer of ‘WHY'” had Christians skating on thin ice.

His decision to display “St. Peter’s” bones stretched credulity to a near breaking-point.

I am openly contending that this Pope, right now, is not thinking and speaking clearly.

You prove ME wrong.

This the LATEST gibberish worries me.

Of course, I am ALL IN FAVOR, of sharing the wealth. Always believed that. I have always been BIG on generosity and charity.

To this day, despite (if I say it as humbly as possible) a surfeit of compliments, the compliment I treasure the MOST was from one of my ex-father-in-laws, the day that his daughter informed him that I was divorcing her. He came to see us and told me: “… you are the MOST GENEROUS man I have ever met”. And that was BEFORE he or his daughter even heard of my divorce settlement for her!

Pope, by all means, let us ALL share the wealth, but you as a cloistered, rather sheltered Jesuit might not have heard of this, BUT ‘charity begins at home’.

So let us PLEASE start with the Vatican.

I have said it before, to the chagrin of some Catholics, lets PLEASE start with the mother of all yard sales — in St. Peter’s Square.

Just have your peons bring out 400 artifacts, at random, from the Apostolic Palace. Given that you refuse to use it — make that the Papal Apartment. Just bring out 400 items and sell them in St. Peter’s Square. Give the money to charity. Then you can call on others.

Till then you sound pompous, out-of-touch and bit silly. Sorry. But, somebody has to say it and it might as well be me — since I am beyond salvation, thank God.

One day ago it was the most amazing statement that Rugby was not violent.

Then this today. As the CNN article points out, up front, this is beyond controversial. There is absolutely no basis to believe that these are the bones of St. Peter.

In reality, there is no historical or Biblical documentation or evidence that St. Peter ever came to Rome! Plenty of documentation that St. Paul did. So that alone raises questions. Why was St. Peter not mentioned if he was there along with St. Paul?

That St. Peter was the first ‘pope’, which he really wasn’t, is a tradition rather than a fact. That is known.

Yes, many, many relics are not obviously what they claim to be.

But, this, in the 21st century, is a definite test of credulity.

I had NOT expected this pope to have gone along with this.

Actually this is the 3rd VERY STRANGE thing the pope has done just this week. That “prayer of “WHY”‘ was very strange too!

Hhhhmmm! Not good.
