48 Matches, in total, May 30 to July 14 (Final).

Essentially a match day.

GOOD TV (Roku) coverage in the U.S. with Willow TV.

[Do NOT bother with Hotstar unless you are Indian or have a low IQ.]

I plan to watch the highlights of all 48-matches on Willow TV.

I was there at the 1979 & 1983 FINALS at Lord’s.

Watched 2015, 2011 & 2007 on TV.

So let’s get ready.

Today is the DAY.

Enjoy.

Cheers.

Amtrak Came To Be This Day 46 Years Ago — May 1, 1971.

by Anura Guruge

Taken by me, in August 2016, in Mystic, CT, from the water, with a rented Nikon D500. Attribution will be enforced.

THIS is a MUST Watch!

For all its faults and shortcomings it is ALL we have!

We have taken Amtrak a fair number of times to New York City and it isn’t that bad. The furthest I have been in Philadelphia to Boston.

Just wish they were FASTER!

The Start Of What Would Be The ‘Falklands War’ Happened This Day, 35-Years Ago — March 19, 1982.

hjby Anura Guruge

What a WAR!

It was the only war that I was totally and utterly ‘invested’ in emotionally.

I so wanted us, THE BRITS, to prevail and prevail big.

I followed every twist-and-turn, despairing when we suffered a loss and jubilant when we enjoyed a success.

The night of the victory, June 14, 1982, I was hosting a pre-arranged customer dinner (as was a part of my job) at a restaurant on the outskirts of London. It turned out to be quite the party. I was buying drinks for all. Didn’t care about the cost. I did have a ‘no questions asked’ expense account for entertainment BUT I think I paid for that money on one of my credit cards. It was well worth it.

What a glorious victory.

THANK YOU Mrs. Thatcher. You were great.

87-Years Ago Today, March 12, 1930, Mahatma Gandhi Set Off On The ‘Salt March’ — A Major Milestone In Indian Independence.

by Anura Guruge

Setting off on THE MARCH. If you have seen the movie ‘Gandhi’ you will remember it well.

The ‘Salt March‘ is well depicted in the 1982 movie ‘Gandhi‘ starring Ben Kinsley.

IF you haven’t seen it you have done YOURSELF a huge disservice.

Good NEWS, it is available for FREE on YouTube.

I have watched this 191 minute movie, yes, 3 hours and 11 minutes, at least 4 times.

As I pointed out nearly a month ago the new series, possibly the last on BBC, will start on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, on BBC — with the Rio 2016 Olympics out of the way.

With luck, and if the 2016 Series/Season 6 was an indication, the BBC episodes will be available on YouTube within 24 hours.

That is our hope for Series 7 too.

I will keep you posted on which YouTube videos actually work. Yes, there will, ALAS, be a ton of fakes and I am not sure why people bother with such deception. Very sad.

With luck, and if the 2016 Series/Season 6 was an indication, the BBC episodes will be available on YouTube within 24 hours.

Last year we watched all of Season 6 on YouTube months AHEAD of the show being broadcast on PBS.

That is our hope for Series 7 too.

U.S. Red Poppy Promotions from prior years.

So why isn’t the Red Poppy MORE popular — let alone ubiquitous as it is in other countries at the start of November — in the U.S.?

I have a theory.

The U.S. did NOT enter World War I until April 6, 1917.

WW I started July 28, 1914.

The Second Battle of Ypres, which is what the poem ‘In Flanders Field’ by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae, which gave rise to the ‘Red Poppy’ tradition was fought from 22 April – 25 May 1915.

In other words the BASIS for the tradition predates the U.S. involvement though ‘Poppy Day’ itself did not come to be until 1921. Please check ‘Red Poppy’ page, above, for the full illustrated history.

Well that is my theory. I could be wrong.

clivericeetc

I remember all three, vividly, from the 1960s to the 1980s — living in Britain.

So I thought I will share a YouTube each with YOU in tribute to ALL the good they each did.

They will be missed.

This used to be one of my favorite songs! I think I might still have the LP from 1973. Wow. Lynn — the Aussie.

cliveyt

I remember Clive mainly from him playing for Notts. I used to watch a TON of county cricket live, with Hampshire & Middlesex, in those days. Very nice guy. I liked Clive.

cillayt1

In the late 60s and all of the 1970s she was everywhere — TV and radio. You could not miss her. What a lady.
