Good Friday Not A Federal Holiday In The U.S. But Stock Markets Closed As Are 12 State Governments.

12 U.S. States observe Good Friday by closing Government Offices (per Wikipedia), they being: Connecticut, Delaware, Guam, Hawaii, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Puerto Rico, and Tennessee.

I have talked about this before, viz. Easter (or at least Good Friday) NOT being an official holiday in the U.S. (though as the above suggest about 80% of the country celebrates it and Easter Sunday (quite rightly) has the highest church attendance of the year (well ahead (quite rightly) of Christmas (which is in reality not a religious holiday per se)). Tomorrow, Good Friday, as always, will feel very strange to me. The stock markets are closed and that unsettles me because I like to trade — BUT the kids will be at school and there will be a mail delivery. Does not seem right.

As I have also harped about before, it, i.e., Good Friday, is ironically an observed ‘Public & Bank’ holiday (equivalent of Federal Holiday) in Sri Lanka though only 7.4% of the population is Christian! Sri Lanka (my Ceylon) is, however, holiday happy and ‘rich’. In 2016 they have 25 ‘Public & Bank’ holiday compared to the 10 in the U.S. Here is the list.

Note how they OBSERVE Monthly Full Moon days (Poya Days) that do NOT fall on a Sunday. So in March there are 3 holidays and 3 again in April. The holidays are WAY DOWN from when I was growing up in Ceylon in the 1950s/1960s. Easter Monday used to be a holiday. In those days, taking into account the Monthly Poya holidays, it was estimated (by a cousin of mine (who was an accountant)) that there was a holiday, on average, every 19 days!

As you can clearly see I feared this and THAT was the reason I ‘soured’ on the ‘movement’.

So what has transpired now, i.e., December 2015.

So let me try to explain AGAIN as to why I feared this would happen and why that put me at odds with those that thought they were onto a good thing.

CURRENTLY New Hampshire, like most other States, do NOT have any State-level laws precluding toplessness.

So the female nipple was and still is FREE (bar some silly, unenforceable local ordinances, e.g., Gilford beach).

When the New Hampshire ‘Free The Nipple‘ movement came to be WE did NOT know that there were NO State Laws against toplessness. We assumed that there must be.

Then we FOUND OUT.

And as far as I was concerned that turned everything on its head.

No laws meant that the nipple was FREE.

PROTESTING and asking it to be FREED — when it was already FREE — was just asking for trouble.

That was my issue, my problem and my fear.

Protesting against something that was already FREE was STUPID.

NOW if these new laws come into force yes there will be something to protest.

But what a shame.

I happened to see this article on “MarketWatch” this morning. Obviously it piqued my interest. So we have the 3rd highest property tax rate. The average stated for New Hampshire, viz. $3,649, is 1% BELOW what we pay — but we have an exceedingly modest dwelling. This article and the accompanying tables make interesting reading.

So I went there to get the data I wanted.
This is how the TOP property tax states compare.
N.H. is 3rd from bottom.

This table, also from “wallethub“, shows in the 2nd column the average cost to register a car.

VERY BAD NEWS For Us In New Hampshire (N.H.) Re. Subsidies, i.e., Tax Credits, To Lower ObamaCare (ACA) Healthcare Insurance Premiums.

I stumbled upon this, serendipitously, yesterday because I am trying to stay on top of this because I now know that I am going to get screwed — the only question being how deeply and how bloody will it be.

It is looking more and more grim.

Looks like Obama well and truly screwed up. A loophole in the legislation to do with implementation of exchanges — Obama, blinkered as ever, never envisaged a scenario where states would NOT implement their own exchanges.

That is why we in NH are screwed. We are using the plagued, Federal, Canadian-implemented (which is the ROOT cause of all the problems), healthcare.gov.

Without these premium-reducing subsidies, a.k.a. as tax-credits though they can be used upfront to reduce premium costs, Obamacare Health Insurance will be unaffordable to most in N.H.

This is beyond a disaster.

All of the Democratic elected politicians in N.H.  better RUN for cover. Better still abandon your posts and leave the State. You will never get re-elected after this fiasco. I for one will be after you with my trusty pen (which is mightier than a pitchfork) to make sure that you will never screw us AGAIN.

PLEASE read these and TRY and understand the issue.

All because the State decided NOT to setup its own exchange and instead use the Federal ‘healthcare.gov’!

This is NOT a joke or a spoof. This is REAL. Law appears NOT to cover this scenario.
