The Teeth-Chattering, Stupendous Explosion In Amazon Stock Price Is Downright SCARY!

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE. Underlying ‘chart’ from MarketWarch.com, of course.

One Year Growth

Jan. 13, 2017 = $817 –> Jan. 12, 2018 = $1,305.

$488 in 1 year.

60% increase.

Not sour grapes, by any means, on my part. {Smile}

Just the sober reflections of someone who owned shares during THE ‘dot.com‘ and remember seeing explosions similar to this.

Too much, too fast.

The 2-weeks on 2018 has been just, downright crazy.

AMZN has gone up nearly every day — of every day bar one.

Too fast.

I worry that people are going to get burned.

Warren Buffett Follows My Lead On SYF, i.e., ‘Synchrony Financial’ — 4 Months Later.

by Anura Guruge

My original post on SYF —
April 10, 2017.

August 14, 2017 news in ‘USA Today’ etc. Google for more.

What can I say. In my old age I have finally worked out this ‘thing’ called ‘investing‘. {SMILE}

Synchrony Financial’, SYF, was pretty obvious. It took a bit of a hit after its last results BUT that gave you a great chance to make some decent money on options.

SYF, as Buffett’s move testifies, is rather attractive right now. There is also the rather handy $0.15 dividend.

So, just take notice. {Smile}

IBM’s Ginni ‘Tonic’ Rometty Would Have Been FIRED 2 Years Ago IF She Was A Man!

by Anura Guruge

The company she keeps.

I ‘speak’ here as a proud ex-IBMer, one who made a decent living for 30-years as an IBM ‘expert’ and one who has been accused, more than once, of ‘bleeding blue when cut‘ (‘Big Blue‘ being IBM’s nickname).

I do NOT know Rometty. I never met her during my terms at IBM — my last stint c. 2001.

I have only watched her from far and she has NOT impressed me one iota.

20 CONSECUTIVE (bloody) quarters of declining revenues. Yes, 20 quarters — 5 years. That is basically a WHOLE tenure as IBM’s Chairman.

Come ON! Give me a break. She would have been out on her ear ages ago if she was a man.

Now it is looking embarrassing to all.

IBM has had some GREAT CEOs and Chairmen, not even counting the two father-son Watsons. Cary, Opel & Akers were GOOD. Gerstner, who I ‘knew’, was BRILLIANT. Palmisano was not great. Gin & Tonic Rometty, however, is the worst.

And IF you did NOT know. IBM’s stock price is what it is, because she was buying back BILLIONS to prop up the price!

Warren Buffett over the weekend admitted that he made a mistake in buying IBM. Well, he is getting OLD.

The best thing for IBM is to go cap-in-hand to Amazon and ask them, please, if they would buy IBM to put it out of its misery.

Who Will Stay Long Tomorrow, With Markets Closed On Friday, N. Korea, Syria & Russia All In Play.

by Anura Guruge

U.K. Daily Mail, April 12, 2017.

I have been amazed that the market has been resilient in light of all of this geopolitical unrest.

Never seen it so steadfast and ready to ignore Tomahawks being lobbed around, willy nilly.

But this weekend could be rather interesting to say the least and the Markets are close on Friday for Easter.

So, any risk aversion trades will have to be done Thursday, April 13, 2017.

I will continue to stay LONG.

Having stayed LONG, without a single exception, for the last 10 years there is no point trying to be cut now.

I have quite literally accumulated enough ‘Market Karma’ to keep me going through a few corrections. {SMILE}

Basically thinking out aloud.

As an option trader all volatility is what we live for.

All the best. Bon Chance. It could be quite the ride.

SYF, ‘Synchrony Financial’ As A Cheap Proxy Stock For Amazon (AMZN).

by Anura Guruge

Click to ENLARGE and view here. From ‘MarketWatch’ at marketwatch.com (SYF)

Not sure why I had NOT thought of this before. Maybe because I was already in AMZN, big time, and had been so for over 2 years.

But, this morning I happened to see SYF on CNBC and it got me thinking.

Why is it a PROXY for AMZN?

Because Amazon Store Credit Cards are issued by Synchrony Financial (via their Bank).

So more people that get Amazon Credit Cards the better it is for SYF.

AMZN at $900 is expensive and it is going up …

Yes, SYF will NOT MATCH AMZN performance.

But, SYF is 30 times CHEAPER.

So just a thought. Worth considering. I am.

Amazon Should Buy IBM, Outright, And Put It Out Of Its Lingering Misery.

Amazon AMZN IBM stock Anura Guruge

Amazon (AMZN) stock performance vs. that of IBM over the last 5 years. What more do you need to know. Chart, of course, from marketwatch.com. Who else? Click to ENLARGE. Visit marketwatch.com to get your own.

This must have occurred to Jeff Bezos. I had already talked about this way back in October 2015.

Makes a lot of sense and there are some amazing synergies when it comes to artificial intelligence (AI) (and IBM’s Watson), Cloud plays & server technologies. Plus, Amazon can tap into IBM’s still lucrative revenue streams from software licensing, product leasing and maintenance contracts. Plus, IBM still must have some choice real estate in places that should suit Amazon.

Amazon’s Market Cap is 2.4 times that of IBM’s.

I would have to think that a majority of IBM shareholders would be happy to get 1 share of AMZN for every 4.5 shares of IBM. That would put the sell price at around $177. Yes, the lack of a dividend will gall some, BUT AMZN’s amazing growth should be a compensation.

Yes, I would benefit from this in multiple ways. Yes, I am a long-term AMZN shareholder and this deal will make AMZN even sweeter down the road. Plus it will bring the two halves of my adult life nicely together. IBM was my life for 36-years. I am only ‘here’ because of IBM. A few years after I stopped doing IBM stuff, I bought into AMZN. I am NOW on;y ‘here’ because of AMZN. So, this will be perfect from my perspective.

Selling Off Amazon Shares On Cyber Monday Is Incredibly STUPID — Just Herd Mentality!

by Anura Guruge

amznnov28

Click to access v. germane ‘MarketWatch’ story.

amzncybermon

From “MarketWatch” — use link above to access chart if you need to. Otherwise: marketwatch.com

Betting against Amazon post-Black Friday and during what is really ‘Cyber Week’, rather than just Cyber Monday, is PLAIN STUPID.

You know, and I know, that Amazon is making out like a bandit.

Others might do well, but in the end Amazon would still have done better.

Why bet against Amazon (AMZN) to YOUR detriment.

Today’s 1.9% drop should be a buying opportunity.

Amazon will go past $800 before the year is out AND ahead of the Fed’s, inevitable (spite Trump), December rate increase.

This is not the time to sell. Wait for it t0 get to $800+ — then sell JUST ahead of the December Federal Reserve meeting December 13 – 14, 2016.

But for now … BUY, BUY, BUY AMZN.

Full disclosure: I own AMZN and I am very long.

Sorry To Say That Amazon’s “Prime Photos” Is Not Ready For Prime Time — By A Long Chalk.

by Anura Guruge

primephoto

If you read this blog on a regular basis you will know that I am HUGE fan and customer of Amazon. I, in addition to also publishing most of my recent books through Amazon, happen to be a very happy Amazon shareholder. There is not a day that goes by when Amazon is not a part of my life.

Thus it genuinely grieves me to inform you that ‘Amazon Prime Photos’, at present SUCKS.

It is quite PATHETIC.

What is the main problem. It does NOT have the capacity to handle the load. Basically it is having trouble coping with the user load — especially with Amazon also coping with Black Friday/Cyber Monday traffic.

Hopefully down the road Amazon will fix this. They just need to increase capacity.

‘Amazon Prime Photos’ appears to be based on Snapfish.

Right now it is real difficult to upload photos! Not funny.

I have managed, over 2 days, with MULTIPLE retries to load 3,602 photos. It is so slow and error-prone.

Amazon’s “Prime Reading” Works & Works Well. Stock Up $10 To All Time High.

by Anura Guruge

primereadingfdsf

The books did not interest me. I like the feel of real books.

But was willing to try the magazines. Was hoping to get some camera/photography ones. Only one available: “Shutterbug”. But I downloaded 5 magazines for free: Cosmo (which I have always enjoyed reading since way back in the 1970s), the photography one, “Popular Mechanics“, “Consumer Reports” & a car magazine. For “FREE” not bad.

Stock shot up $10 on the news. Now at an all time high!

Amazon (AMZN) $1050 Options Now Available — Scary But Exciting.

by Anura Guruge

amznoptions

Click to ENLARGE and admire here. From Fidelity.

This is scary BUT in a good way. AMZN is up about $30 in 3 days. But it closed today at $829.05.

A $1050 option 77-days from now is saying that there are those that expect it to go up $221 dollars in 77-days — a 26.7% increase.

Yes, I know that a bunch of analysts hiked the price target to $1,000.

But the possibility of $1,050 before Christmas.

That would be quite the Christmas for some. {SMILE}
