This is NOT new news so to speak. I have heard the virtues of ‘one glass of wine a day‘ for years — which is why I follow that advice religiously. What is interesting is that this study, extensive in scope given the 300,000 Americans followed, appears to contradict a recent British study that expressed doubts as to the health benefits of wine (or beer).
I must also confess that at my annual physical, last week (8/8/2017), my doctor, a very nice Indian, also appeared to express skepticism to the state of my health — my daily glass of red wine notwithstanding. He said I was going to die, but he couldn’t be specific. He just knew I was going to die. Not sure when either. He says it is just a hunch he has — that I am going to die.

This article titled “Neurontin and Lyrica are a Death Sentence for New Brain Synapses” is a GOOD place to start. It also has links to the relevant studies. Click image to access original …
Pfizer that makes billions on Lyrica conveniently omits to mention anything about brain impairment when it comes to the side effects because they were discovered after FDA approval. From: http://www.lyrica.com
I don’t take Lyrica BUT I am very familiar with it.
My latest book will be on ‘Central Pain Syndrome‘ (CPS) and Lyrica is one of the most used drugs to treat CPS.
The generic name for Lyrica is Pregabalin.
IF you are taking Lyrica/Pregabalin you should Google ‘pregabalin synapse’ — where a synapse is a key component of the nervous system.
This a HEADS UP because many of you may not have realized this.
IF you are taking Lyrica/Pregabalin and feel that your ‘head’ is no longer ‘feeling right’ …. this could be it.

When I saw the headline this morning it made me SMILE.
Well I can’t relate since I am not smart. Plus I am supposed to be an off-the-scale extrovert though extroverts can be loners.
During the short time I worked at ‘Data General‘ (DG), another now defunct minicomputer legend of the 1980s, there should to be a V.P. who per what he must have learned at some seminar he attended would always challenge folks (I among them): “IF you are so smart, why aren’t you richer?” Damn good question and I do, to an extent, agree. While drug dealers and pimps can be rich most of the rich people I know are, of course, smarter than I. This “IF you are so smart, why aren’t you richer?” has been a consolation to I. I can better reconcile why I am so poor. Not smart enough. Q.E.D. Smile.

I dramatically cut back on carbs 3 years and 2 months ago. So for the last 38 months I have had NO bread (of any type or color), no rice (whatsoever), no bagels, no muffins, no donuts, no pizza (other than a few pizza bites), no pasta, no cakes, no pies, no ice cream, no puddings, no desserts! Yes, I lost some weight.
That is NOT to say I do not ingest carbs. That would be impossible. Plus I worked out that I need some amount of carbs, if nothing else to keep my digestive tract somewhat appeased (though I can tell you (for free) that low carb diets wreak havoc on your stomach especially when you are old (as am I)). I still have my mandatory, medicinal DAILY glass of red wine. That has carbs. I eat Activia yogurt (because it is supposed to help with my stomach). That has lots of carbs. I eat one cup of oatmeal a day — again for my stomach (along with quite a bit of Metamucil). So I do ingest a fair amount of carbs and of late I am PUTTING ON WEIGHT, however hard I try. C’est la vie.
Not sure whether I believe this study. But wanted to share it with you for what it is worth.

So this study, paid for by The National Institutes of Health (NIH), after studying data from close to 6,000 survey respondents, concluded that “lesbians have more than twice the odds of overweight and obesity as heterosexual women”. OK, we will buy that — but I am not sure I would pay $3.5 million to just learn that. I think ‘we’ have all observed that there are indeed quite a few lesbians that are on the BIG side.
But this study only goes as far as this when it comes to even coming close to looking if there are any causal relationships — “For instance, it has been suggested that bisexual women’s physical appearance is influenced by having a male versus a female partner“. Yea? Well, tell us more.
What comes first and I know that that is indeed a touchy ‘PC’ issue. But that is what would have been worth $7 million to study.
